Tumble dryer with 2 under 3 — worth it?

Beeba26 · 13/04/2026 09:43

Need honest opinions, should I invest in a tumble dryer?

I’ve never really liked tumble dryers and always preferred air drying but I have a 2-year-old and I’m due my second baby in October and I’m starting to wonder if keeping up with laundry will become impossible 😅

Did getting a tumble dryer make a big difference for you or is it not worth it?

Definitely worth it !

Needspaceforlego · 13/04/2026 09:50

Yes. Dryer in winter, whirliegig in summer.
I occasionally use the clothes horse but usually I use the dryer.

I know someone who uses a clothes horse and dehumidifier but if you can spare the cash them I'd have a dryer

I don't have two children under three ( I have three under forty) and i still use and love my tumble dryer. It doesn't use as much electricity as we are led to believe either.

Go for it.
Its also fab when they get older and you have a bundle of school stuff that needs turned round over a wet weekend.

OldHattie · 13/04/2026 10:17

You have already decided to go for it and I was only coming on to say definitely worth it for me. We used ours a lot when ny youngest was a baby. We used cheeky wipes and cloth nappies some of the time and he was quite refluxy. Add in the active older toddler jumping in mud every chance she got and my dryer was worth its weight in gold

MuchTooTired · 13/04/2026 10:17

Tumble dryer is a must have life saver for me! Mine are 8 now (DTs) but the amount of laundry these kids generate I don’t have a large enough house with enough radiators to dry their clothes before the next onslaught of laundry. I don’t think they cost that much to run.

toomanysausages · 13/04/2026 10:19

Yes! We have 2 under 3. After bout of norovirus in the winter I ended up having to tumble dry towels and sheets at my mums and it took ages to catch up on everything. I don’t tumble everybody’s clothes all of the time but it’s been so useful to have our own now. We’ve had a second sickness bug recently and we weren’t behind! Highly recommend, borderline life changing with small (mucky) ones!

Villanousvillans · 13/04/2026 10:21

I’ve had one for years, it’s hard to imagine managing without one.

Iocanepowder · 13/04/2026 10:21

100% yes!!! Do anything that makes life easier

CarolinaLiar · 13/04/2026 10:22

I don’t know how people manage without one. Ours is in use all year round.

mondaytosunday · 13/04/2026 10:23

I have no children under 20 and would not give up my dryer!

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 13/04/2026 10:24

Worth it… I hate the notion of them too but I have a toddler who still wakes through the night and is struggling with potty training … so for me it’s more for my mental health than anything

I agree!

Tumble dryer and robot vacuum and a larger fridge. These have all been life changing for me.

We dont even use the tumble dryer for clothes usually, but its a god send for towels and bedding and, when we have got behind, I will tumble dry underwear, pjs etc as there isnt space for loads of washing to air dry at once.

HortiGal · 13/04/2026 10:26

I have a tumbler, love to line dry, also have a pulley in utility for non tumble items in bad weather
https://www.castinstyle.co.uk/pulley-clothes-airers/traditional-pulley-clothes-airers
it gets used every day outwith summer

StarsShiningOnANighttimeSea · 13/04/2026 10:27

I couldn't live without one. We technically don't have room for it (it's in the conservatory) but I don't care. It's my precious.

Paaseitjes · 13/04/2026 10:32

Yes, mostly because my baby is a climber and there's no where safe to put the clothes horse! We dry in the garden in the summer.

Nofeckingway · 13/04/2026 10:36

I live to line dry too but feel tumble dry is necessary at the end just for a few minutes to dry and fluff. I had no idea that people did without them at all. Never not had one . What do you do when it's rained for a week ?Do you have to iron to dry too ?

BarnacleBeasley · 13/04/2026 10:41

This wasn't quite the question, but my 2 year old LOVES the tumble dryer! He asks to see it all the time, shows it to all visitors, and explains how it goes round and round. Sometimes he touches it and runs away giggling. He has also rebranded the microwave in his toy kitchen as a tumble dryer and he drags his finger round and round on it while 'drying' all his toys.

Beeba26 · 13/04/2026 20:31

Thank you all so so much every one of you 🤍
This was my first post here and I don’t know if it’s the pregnancy hormones but I genuinely feel like I may have found my village 🤗 . You ladies are amazing thank you so much xx

10000% worth it. I managed with 1 and thought I would with 2 but after 2weeks of 2under 2 I bought one and never looked back!

SparkyBlue · 13/04/2026 20:33

Yes absolutely, I was always snooty cow about dryers but when I was in hospital having my second child DH had a tumble dryer delivered to the house and now I don’t know how I managed without one . Ten years on it’s just needing to be replaced now.
