Hi guys,

i know it’s an old wives tale but for those that have had a boy and a girl, which were you more sick with?

I’m guessing you didn’t read the bit at the start where I said “ I know it’s only an old wives tale” lol. I know it’s more than likely a myth but then some research does claim that because of higher HCG with female fetus, you can be more sick so I was just curiou

No you’re right I can’t read. Not sure how I can write, but surely they aren’t related.

Well I didn’t say you can’t read lol I said I’m guessing you didn’t read. As I said, though this post was purely out of curiosity, not claiming to be any scientist here 😃

Not sick with either a boy or a girl but horrific heartburn with both, worse with the girl. Terrible pelvic girdle pain both, worse for the boy. Sciatica both.

”Old wives tale” with sweet cravings for a girl and salty for a boy was true for me

Random people used to say I was carrying a girl as well so maybe there’s something to that, they were correct

Strangely I currently don’t crave either sweets or crisps etc. postpartum

Hormones are weird things

Boy = zero nausea or sickness
Girl = lots of nausea but never actually sick

This for me too!

Glendaruel · 04/04/2026 21:20

Girl 1 my husband has never seen me so sick, lived on bathroom floor.
Girl 2, very rarely got sick

liamharha · 04/04/2026 21:21

Girl for me

Hopefulsalmon · 04/04/2026 21:22

2 boys. V sick with the first, none at all with the second.

myheadsjustmush · 04/04/2026 21:24

DD 1 - no sickness.
DS2 - awful sickness.
DD3 - no sickness.

I knew as soon as I threw up in early pregnancy I was having a boy 🤣

neleh87 · 04/04/2026 21:26

I have a boy and a girl. Exactly the same level of sickness with both- I had nausea but was never actually sick.
It was fractionally worse with my son, but he was my first baby and I handled it better the second time- knew what to eat and avoid etc.

Bebeandgang · 04/04/2026 21:27

One of each and was sick with both. Son first and had nausea until about week 14. With my daughter, I don't think it ever stopped. In addition to nausea, I was also vomiting as well as being sick from reflux. Omeprazole helped quite a bit but don't think the sickness ever really left me.

2 girls and a boy

Dd1: sick at least 5 x every day until 30 weeks
Dd2: sick several times a day until 20 weeks, then it came back at 32 weeks til the end

DS: nausea for the first 14ish weeks, but only sick about 10 times in entire pregnancy. It was a big difference

DefiantRabbit9 · 04/04/2026 21:38

My mum was more sick with my brother (nausea for 4 months) than she was with me (nausea for 3 months). I'm on my first pregnancy so I have nothing to compare but my sickness was very intense (at peak I was vomiting 5 times a day) but only lasted for 1 month.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/04/2026 21:42

Same with both. Nausea all the way through, not quite as bad after 20 weeks.

Jamboreeee · 04/04/2026 21:53

Boy - sick 4-6 times per day until 20 weeks
Girl - sick 8+ times per day until 22 weeks, required several admissions
Boy - heavily medicated, sick 4 times per day until 22 weeks

Thanks so much, everyone. Loving reading the responses

DD - not nausea as such but lots of food aversions which turned my stomach.
DS - only felt sick when hungry. No food aversions.

DramaAlpaca · 04/04/2026 22:41

All three of mine are boys. I was horrendously sick until 20 weeks with all three of them.

twentyeightfishinthepond · 04/04/2026 23:24

I can promise you from
personal experiences that it makes no difference.

RB05 · 04/04/2026 23:49

Sick for most of the pregnancy for both boys.

StarsShiningOnANighttimeSea · 05/04/2026 00:23

Barely had any sickness with either, but of what there was I was far sicker with DD than DS.

PurpleNightingale · 05/04/2026 00:30

I've had a boy and a girl. Sick with both pregnancies, but the sickness was stronger, longer and started sooner with my girl.

TwilightAb · 05/04/2026 00:34

I felt the same with both, no sickness and a tiny bit of nausea. I don't think its down to the sex of the baby but more to do with biology of the Mum. People were convinced my first was a boy due to how I was carrying, she is very much a girl!

Clearingaspace · 05/04/2026 00:58

No sickness with boy, nausea with my girls

Flannelfeet · 05/04/2026 01:19

I felt like Bella from twilight carrying my daughter 😔.

JC89 · 05/04/2026 01:20

Pretty much the same, 1-3 times a day with DS, more consistently twice a with DD.
