Your experience of a sweep

Just looking for some experiences of women who have had sweeps. I have one booked for the end of the week and feel a bit nervous.

Can i ask:

  1. how much did it hurt?
  2. did they find your cervix ok? (My cervix is normally very high up and I feel a bit worried they won’t even get to it!)
  3. did it work?
  4. anything else that might help a first time mum to feel prepared for it

TIA

Had as many sweeps as I was allowed. Both dc 2 nearly 2 weeks overdue. No more uncomfortable than a smear. Both quick and easy labours too.

Felt like she shoved her had inside and wore me like a glove puppet. Couldn’t even find cervix and was no use.

Hope your experience is better!

Hi all, just another update. Since the ‘attempted sweep’ which ended being some cervix stimulation, I have lost some more mucus plug. I have my second sweep tomorrow and hoping I will be dilated enough to have it done properly this time.

Second sweep also didn’t work as cervix still only 0.5cm although it is very very soft and babies head is super low. She stimulated it again but I don’t think baby will come until he is induced properly on Saturday. They’ve booked me in for a third and final try of a sweep on Thursday so we never know.
