8 years. Was 36 when DD came along. We weren’t ready before that.

AntiHop · 27/01/2026 23:55

puppyparent · 27/01/2026 23:56

I haven’t. But I’d say minimum 3 years to know true colours through good and bad times.

PLUS pregnancy raises %%% of DV

Married 2 years, dating 2 years before that.

9 years when I gave birth, married a month when I fell pregnant, had DS before our first wedding anniversary. Good old NHS told me I couldn't conceive due to medical issues and would need fertility support but the wait was a year after coming off of hormonal contraception which I took for other reasons.

OhDear111 · 28/01/2026 00:01

15 years. I was more focussed on my career.

Uberella · 28/01/2026 00:11

just over 3 years:we were engaged and married when DS was 4 months old.

sunflowersblooming · 28/01/2026 00:21

We got married after a year and I was pregnant month later. Very much planned. We were in our 30s and didn’t want to hang around on either marriage or babies. Next baby born 18 months after the first. Still very happily together 14 years on. We didn’t have much judgement to our faces but some did and I’ve not forgotten who they were!

Nursemumma92 · 28/01/2026 02:36

7 years.

SnowyRock · 28/01/2026 02:47

I think there are other factors to consider when deciding on the length of time. A woman in her mid 30s doesnt have the luxury of waiting 3 years and confidently being able to have 2 children for example, but likely has more career and financial stability, and more experience in relationships to spot concerning traits.

A woman in her early 20s may be more vulnerable financially, and doesnt have the life experience to necessarily notice warning signs of a controlling or abusive man, and waiting 3-4 years is likely more sensible and doesnt have the fertility aspect to weigh up.

EarlyWorkout · 28/01/2026 02:50

Together 6 years. We had lived together for 4 years. I don’t think you can fully know someone after a year.

elliejjtiny · 28/01/2026 03:05

3 years. And some people thought it was too soon. I got pregnant a year after we started trying.

lemonwrighty · 28/01/2026 03:37

Together 17 years, married 5 years with baby #1 on the way

Crushed23 · 28/01/2026 03:48

We’ve talked about maybe starting TTC in late 2027, when we will have been together almost 3 years.

Confusedmermaid1 · 28/01/2026 03:50

Together 10 years Friday, baby girl is 2 weeks old Thursday..
We’ve been together since early 20s and started trying after we got married 2 years ago.

Tintackedsea · 27/01/2026 23:45

Met, engaged a year later, married within 8 months and then baby following year. 2 years 8 months all told. He’s ace and gets better every day.

Your husband or the baby? 😁

LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa · 28/01/2026 03:56

Three days before my eldest was born I’d known him for four years. Married at that stage for 17 months.

Bringemout · 28/01/2026 04:12

10 years actually, I think 1yr isn’t enough tbh. Obviously 10yrs is on the long side.

CraftyGin · 28/01/2026 04:15

We had been married for five years.

BretonStripe · 28/01/2026 04:40

Together 2.5 years when ds1 was born. So only knew each other less than two years before TTC but I was late 20s and he early 30s and it felt right. Married after dc1 born, then had dc2 three years later.

Kids are teens now and no regrets.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 28/01/2026 07:11

Together for nine years then engaged. Married at ten years. First child at eleven years.

PersephoneParlormaid · 28/01/2026 07:12

8 years

CatherinedeBourgh · 28/01/2026 07:13

15 years

Namingbaba · 28/01/2026 07:14

5-6 years. I wished we’d decided sooner to have children though maybe around the 2-3 year mark.
