Had 20 week scan today! All looks fine. Good news: I found out the sex. Bad news: I have a low lying placenta

gah at placenta - MW said it may well move but will be scanned again at 32 weeks to check it.

So relieved all looks fine with baby, I was feeling quite anxious this time!

Good luck!

I'm off tomorrow - a little late, I'm 21-22 weeks (they should be able to tell which way for sure tomorrow).

But I think mine's a GIRL .

congratulations MamaG! And I hope the placenta moves up, the chances are high it will do.

We don't know the sex of ours, and I didn't even see so I have absolutely no idea.

VictorianSqualor · 13/06/2008 17:04

Congratulations MamaG - I know a family with an eldest dd and then two ds at a very similar set of ages to that you'll have - it works really well - a lovely family

MamaG · 13/06/2008 17:15

ladytophamhatt · 13/06/2008 17:55

Bloody hell, x posts but about 30 minutes. I honestly hadn't seen that link.

I'd leftthe window open with my post half done, finished it off after a sorting a whingy ds4 and there it was.

Hooorah!!

mumtoone · 14/06/2008 21:14

I too had a low lying placenta at 20 weeks and it was fine when I was rescanned at 36 weeks so I had a home birth. Most low lying placentas do move so don't worry now.

expatinscotland · 14/06/2008 21:18

Sooo, what is the wee one's name?

The placenta could well move.

My sister had low-lying at 20 weeks with both girls and hers moved both times.

She still needed csection with elder one as she went breech, but had a VBAC with second one.

poppy34 · 14/06/2008 21:40

friend of mine had low lying placenta with her baby - was fine as moved later and she had home birth

MamaG · 14/06/2008 22:49

Good to hear all these moving placenta stories! I'm not divulging the name expat in case some twat shrieks "oh no don't call him that" and I ahve to hate them forever!

mimismummy · 15/06/2008 17:34

yep - just wanted to say I had low lying placenta at 20wks, was rescanned at 36 weeks, by which time it had moved and i had a home birth. I think the stats show that the vast majority do move, so don't worry

missbumpy · 15/06/2008 21:07

I had low lying placenta too and it shifted before I gave birth. One of the midwives explained why/how a low lying placenta shifts upwards but I can't really explain it without drawing a diagram!

lackaDAISYcal · 15/06/2008 21:12

congrats on your scan and a baby boy MamaG , but poo on the low lying placenta. Sounds like most move out of the way though.

Thomcat · 15/06/2008 21:29

Congrats

I had a low lying placenta too and mine moved just fine. Am sure you'll be ok.

MamaG · 15/06/2008 22:29

Oh I'm so relieved with all these stories! I'd hate to have a cs - fear of the unknown I guess. I'll just have to email lulumama hourly deal with it if it doesn't move though

Hi

I had a low lying placenta too.
It still hadn't moved by 36 weeks and my son was also breach at this point so was told I'd have to stay in hosp and have c section in the next 2 weeks. I begged and pleaded to be let home as I had a 16 month old daughter and couldn't bear to leave her. Consultant said I could go home as long as I was in adult company at all times in case of emergency.

Then when I finally had to go in at 37 weeks to have c section, at the booking in appt. the consultant scanned again and he had turned and the placenta had shifted out of the way!! Hurrah! Went on to have my son nearly 1 1/2 weeks after my due date in a water birth!

So don't worry!
lots of love and luck
claire
