Christmas Night Out

Anyone else have a Christmas night out coming up but your work don't yet know you are pregnant?

I would still like to go but it's likely I will be asked why I'm not drinking...what lie could I tell?! 🙈

Yes, I know lots of people don't drink on nights out and I shouldn't have to give a reason but my colleagues know I normally drink and definitely get tipsy 😂💃 it's a bring a party to a party event, most people I work with will be quite boozy.

I'm 7 weeks 3 days ☺️

You have a tooth infection and you are taking antibiotics

Nomnomnew · 03/12/2025 20:55

Can you just drive to it or drive home so then you can’t drink because you’re driving? Maybe you could be going somewhere early the next morning?

So I'm on the 'social committee' ...we are self appointed and there's only two of us 😂🤣 had this booked / planned for I think 5 months... My colleagues know my partner would drop me off/ collect me. I never drive for our nights out so I can drink 🙈😂

I think for another night out I could get away with the driving excuse but the Christmas night out is very much a long awaited night out for my team / a big deal (we have a very stressful job 🙈)

The person who mentioned antibiotics for a tooth infection might have sorted it for me 👍

Even if people suspect most will respect you enough not to ask outright, is my experience.

BossaNovaOnAllNight · 03/12/2025 21:06

Yep! Mines the 12th of Dec, I don't wanna tell them yet, my managers aren't that nice and I want it to be just my news for now. I have said im away for my nephews birthdays with family- which is true as I'm now going on this instead!

Babybear260 · 03/12/2025 21:08

I would say you’re on antibiotics something… at my summer party it was scorching hot so I just said I will pass out if I drink (cos it was genuinely tooo hot!)

My manager actually is really nice and we are a close knit team which is what makes me want to go. If weren't friends and were just colleagues I would be saying I have other plans. That's good though your reason is genuine so you don't need to lie! Enjoy your time away ☺️

I would go for the antibiotics excuse, there are some.(metronizidol) for example) that you absolutely cannot drink on as it would make you very sick.

OopsieeDaisy · 03/12/2025 21:16

In my experience, if you tell them you’re on antibiotics you may as well just wave a big flag saying ‘I’m pregnant!’ 😂
I think the pp’s suggestion of driving as you have to go out early the next morning is good - could you just say it’s something that’s come up since arranging the date like driving a relative to a hospital appointment or something?
Alternatively, can you get away with pretending you’re drinking and just not?

Pavementworrier · 03/12/2025 21:16

Just say you don't feel like it it's not 1988

I hear you, definitely a flag 🙈
Honestly though I feel like the driving might be just as much of a flag in my case since I never normally do that so probably they will suss it with either option and maybe I just need to pick whatever option feels easier /more natural to lie about 🙈🤣

I could possibly pretend to be drinking but would need to avoid getting involved in rounds...hmm something to ponder over!

Would people even notice people where drinking allsorts at our Christmas party i honestly have no idea if someone was drinking vodka and coke or just coke.

There will be wine on the table but I could get away with saying no to that...think it would more be when people do rounds and ask what I want is the issue. I could just say I'm sorting my own drinks though... definitely an option to consider

Antibiotics as an excuse = I'm pregnant

Yeah id do that. I never do rounds and always stick to own as it gets to expensive. I dont think anyone would think anything of that.

Exactly plus most antibiotics you can drink on i think its only metronidazole (spelling well off on that) and one other which nobody would really be prescribed that you can't drink on

LuckyNumberFive · 03/12/2025 21:29

Antibiotics is a sure fire way for everyone to assume you're pregnant.

When this was my situation I ordered lemonade but in a gin glass, so everyone assumed I was on G&T.

This is sounding do-able... might have to go with this!

It was easy. Just made sure I went up to the bar alone, asked the bartender for a lemonade but in one of the big, round gin glasses with a slice of lemon and the tiny straws they have.

aLogLady · 04/12/2025 08:13

if it’s not a huge group I’d even consider pretelling the bar staff that you’re not drinking but want to pretend that you are, then if you’re ordering in front of others it’s not as awkward to cover it up, eg: “Same again please!” It’ll only be an issue at the start of the night anyway, as the night goes on people will take much less notice!

Superscientist · 04/12/2025 08:34

Say wine keeps giving me migraines, I'll grab a drink from the bar and then get a soft drink.

Get a drink early and keep hold of the glass, the best excuse for not wanting a drink is I already have one

waitingforourmiracle · 04/12/2025 11:44

When you go to the bar ask for a lemonade in a gin glass with a bit of fruit, no one would know the difference, that's my plan 😛

Wherestheteenguide · 04/12/2025 12:58

I've got the same issue. Going away for a whole weekend and there's always alcohol and they know me to also be a big coffee drinker. Going to be hard to hide! I'm only 5 weeks and have had previous early MC so don't want to say anything.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 04/12/2025 13:16

Just drive - your husband can’t drop you off or pick up as he’s got the horrific cold that’s going around. Don’t say you’re on antibiotics, you might as well stick your baby scan on your forehead with that excuse!

IsItTheWeekendYet25 · 04/12/2025 13:34

I think if you always normally drink on these occasions, whatever excuse you give will basically be announcing the pregnancy. I was exactly the same when I was younger and no-one would have believed me for a second. (I once was genuinely on antibiotics that you can’t drink on for a tooth infection and I actually brought them with me to the pub to show my friends that it wasn’t an excuse to disguise pregnancy. I struggled to conceive for years and they all knew about it so definitely didn’t want to get any of their hopes up!).

I think getting a drink you can pass off as alcohol is your best bet if you don’t want to announce it yet. Are you close enough to any of your colleagues to just tell one or two of them so they can help you out with the cover? One of my colleagues who I was good friends with told a couple of us before a big event. We had lots of fun helping her cover it up ie getting her a shot of water when we were getting tequila/sambuca, or saying she seemed a bit tipsy and offering to get her a soft drink etc. Not one person guessed and when she did finally announce it a few weeks later, some people were actually a bit concerned about her drinking at do!
