Christmas Night Out

Anyone else have a Christmas night out coming up but your work don't yet know you are pregnant?

I would still like to go but it's likely I will be asked why I'm not drinking...what lie could I tell?! 🙈

Yes, I know lots of people don't drink on nights out and I shouldn't have to give a reason but my colleagues know I normally drink and definitely get tipsy 😂💃 it's a bring a party to a party event, most people I work with will be quite boozy.

I'm 7 weeks 3 days ☺️

I had a work dinner and drinks a few weeks ago, and I discreetly asked the Barmaid to pour me Gin 0% and that if she ever heard me asking for Gin could she make sure it was 0. It worked fine... and as they are in big goblet glasses I was able to just have 2 and nobody noticed I wasn't necking them 😂 I just made sure I went to that specific barmaid and usually gave her a little wink or something 😂

If you are in work earlier that day, I'd probably say you have a headache or something or ask anyone if they have a paracetamol because you're head is sore.... it'll give a bit of an excuse as to why you aren't drinking lots that night or explain why your giving the wine a miss.

Hello! I had a Christmas party after an embryo transfer but before I found out I was pregnant. I had zero-alcohol beer and no one really questioned it. Mocktails are good and look authentic! Can you give the excuse that you're tired? Alcohol puts me to sleep, so it's true in my case.

A friend confided in me before my 30th birthday that she wasn't drinking as she was mid IVF but didn't want others to know, she only told me to check I would be ok with her plan. She dropped a bottle of alcohol free gin or something in to the bar staff earlier in the day, and made sure she ordered her own drinks, so she could order a G&T and they just used 'her' one for her. Nobody was any the wiser!

If they’re all nice people and you’re friends, I would just tell them you’re pregnant. You’d be telling them in a few weeks anyway.

Antibiotics excuse is a bit obvious 😂 I was newly pregnant for my work party, open bar 🥲 I ordered what I would normally get minus the alcohol & made sure I always had a drink in my hand for my colleagues to see 😂 after a while they were all tipsy so it was easier

I'd drive and say your partner has tested positive for covid, and is feeling rotten so couldn't drive you. Also a good excuse for leaving early - you don't want it to be a superspreader event now, do you?

Attictroll · 06/12/2025 18:10

Is it a bar… I used to just ask the bar person to make me a soda water to look like a G&t and walk around with it and make sure I was the person who went to the bar! No need for anyone to know and it’s amazing what a tonic or soda water prepped in a certain way can disguise.

FortyFacedFuckers · 06/12/2025 18:26

I would just pretend you are drinking buy yourself non alcoholic drinks and if anyone else buys you a drink just pretend to be drinking it and leave it on the table, if you are in rounds make sure you go to the bar for most if them

When I was pregnant with DS I made up some excuse that my DD wasn't sleeping well so I was too tired to drink. Everyone figured it out it was bullshit pretty quickly 😆 (but didn't say anything until I told them)

gogomomo2 · 06/12/2025 18:51

If you actually drive, problem is solved, just say your dp is busy. Obviously doesn’t work for central London but most other places have parking options and saves him dropping you. Nobody questions you if you are driving

Antibiotics = pregnancy in my books so def don't go down that route.
I swanned about with a glass of wine which never got drunk.
In trickier situations, I'd bring drinks to the loo with me and pour them down the sink.
When it came to shots, I'd claim awful heartburn.
As they get drunker, they'll notice less and less.

I didn’t go to mine citing antibiotics and an early drive. It was a very boozy affair back then. Apparently everyone was ‘ooh, is she pregnant’. Which was fine. No one said anything to me until after I announced my pregnancy (which was a few days later).

There's two scenarios isn't there...
I'm pregnant but not ready to tell you yet so I'm not going to tell you, if you join up the dots that's fine

I absolutely do not want you to know at all.

I'm not a big drinker so I didn't really have the alcohol issue but am a big coffee and tea drinker.... With my in-laws I'll happily just ask for decaf and if they figure it out I don't mind. At my parents I offer to make the tea and have decaf tea bags in my pockets and secretly switch them out so they don't have any reason to suspect.
