what I can't eat? Just found out I'm pg again and I'm blooming well off on holiday to Italy on Tuesday so that's booze, Parma ham and gorgonzola off the menu but I can't remember what else (though I'm sure it's all changed since DS was born 3 years ago anyway).

Can anyone fill me in please?

steer clear of salads due to risk of toxoplasmosis.

nickytwotimes · 08/06/2008 14:17

Ripened cheeses, like brie and any cheeses made from unpasturised milk.
Shellfish.

Anything else that is really nice.

Beetroot · 08/06/2008 14:18

salads?

barbareebaa · 08/06/2008 14:27

Ooh!

Watch out for parmesan - that's made from unpasturised milk (massive bummer!!)

Have a fab holiday

yes salads, unless you can guarentee they are properly washed. Toxoplasmosis is more common on the continent and is very dangerous to pregnant women who are not immune.

star6 · 08/06/2008 15:36

shellfish??

belgo · 08/06/2008 15:37

I'd also be wary about things like chocolate mousse and mayonnaise which could be made with raw eggs.

cyteen · 08/06/2008 15:46

I think soft cheeses that have been cooked are ok.

tinkis30 · 08/06/2008 15:51

ye soft cheeses cooked on say pizza or in pasta are fine just not cold

chutneymary · 08/06/2008 15:51

I think parmesan is fine as it's a hard cheese. Steer clear of undercooked meat, soft cheese and gelato (bloody criminal in italy but there it is) and you'll be fine. Lots of pasta for you dear.

MrsMattie · 08/06/2008 15:52

Oh lordy. I eat whatever I fancy this time around.

sherbetdipdab · 08/06/2008 16:18

I'm with you MrsMattie, this pregnancy I have eaten everything I fancied and not worried about it

eenybeeny · 08/06/2008 16:19

pate is off limits too. even beggie pate.

eenybeeny · 08/06/2008 16:20

should read veggie pate

LOL

BEGGIE pate is fine!

Beetroot · 08/06/2008 16:21

thnk god I had my last 9 years ago - you could eat most things then

cyteen · 08/06/2008 16:32

I must admit, I haven't been particularly uptight with food so far (and this is my first). Bagged salad, mackerel pate, the odd sneaky glass of booze, baked Camembert, I've eaten the lot. In fact, I didn't even know there was a problem with bagged salad until I'd been happily chowing down for some months.

belgo · 08/06/2008 16:43

It's hardly a great sacrifice though. Salad and fruit are fine at home as long as you give them a good wash first.

ruddynorah · 08/06/2008 16:50

eat what you like. just try to avoid things that are likely to give you food poisoning. which i'd have thought you would anyway.

kayzisexpecting · 08/06/2008 17:24

Bagged salad is fine if you wash it before you eat it.

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/06/2008 18:17

Parmesan and shellfish are fine, so do ignore those who've said they aren't.

whomovedmychocolate · 08/06/2008 18:30

I think it's all bollocks myself. As long as you actually actively avoid the half raw BBQ food you'll be fine. In the summer it's harder because food goes off quicker but quite honestly having given myself food poisoning - it's not deadly (though you do end up in hospital for rehydration). Oh and mine was caused by icecream that had defrosted and refrozen on the way back from the shops - so if you take sensible precautions (unlike me) you will be fine and dandy (as opposed to poopy and vomity)

Only one solution for that Knickers. Take a spoon shopping with you and eat it on the way home .
