Has anybody had a child in their late 40s or early 50s? How have you found raising children? I’m due soon and pregnancy has been a breeze but the things people post on social media seem to be so negative and not what I’ve experienced so far.

OP posts:

Average female life expectancy in the UK is 82 or 83 so OP is very likely to see her child into their 30s, especially if they make a conscious effort to exercise, maintain fitness, avoid smoking, vaping, drinking etc.

A reason I wanted to stop at 35 was that women in my family and my DH’s family have suffered health issues in their 50s regardless of not smoking etc. Cancer and needing hip replacements for example. A consultant advised my mum that is is age 50 when you’re more likely to have medical issues due to your age rather than genetic factors, so this is one reason I wanted to have my kids earlier. I was glad for example that I was in my early 20s when helping my mum through cancer, rather than early teens.

Just one of many considering factors though.

What a nasty comment.

What is nasty about that post?! 🤔

Good luck OP, I hope you have a smooth pregnancy and birth and that your child brings you much joy.

I am an older Mum and our house is the house where the kids come to hang out. With age has come patience and I have enjoyed having various teenagers and now early 20's young people around.
They all see me as the cool mum 🤣. I am far from cool!!

Calling other mums who struggle ‘pathetic’.

She hasn't said that though.
She said she finds the comments pathetic, not the older mums.

Exactly. I'm one of those ridiculous women who had a baby at 45. 17 years later I'm still running, cycling, practicing martial arts and working full time. My dm had babies at 42 & 44, and worked 3 days a week in a charity shop in her 80s.

Concerning that women are exhausted in their 30s.

Edited

Yes, this. As I said below, I'm now 61 with a 17 year old and full of energy. Work full time, exercise, socialise, travel etc. I thought I was really young when I was in my 30s, don't think I ever felt tired unless I'd been at an all night gig! I just don't think it's normal to be exhausted so young. I'm expecting it will happen somewhere in my 80s though (touch wood)

I had two of my dc very young and two when i was older. With the first two i had limitless energy and the sleepless nights didn’t catch up with me as much. With the second two the sleepless nights absolutely wiped me out but i had far more patience and on balance was probably a far better parent.
