RSV vaccine during pregnancy – has anyone had it?

Hello everyone,
I’m currently pregnant and I’ve already had the whooping cough vaccine. Now I’m considering the RSV vaccine (and also the flu vaccine), but I still feel a bit anxious about it.
I would really appreciate hearing from mums who have had the RSV vaccine during pregnancy – how was your experience? Any side effects? Did it help you feel more reassured about protecting your baby?

I felt a lil grotty for a day or two afterwards.

Why risk your baby being in NICU with breathing difficulties when we are lucky enough to get this vaccine for free?

It wasn’t available when I was pregnant but being in HDU with a sick baby with bronchiolitis is not worth risking - it’s very dangerous for young children.

It’s not that new. It is been given in other countries (US, Germany) for longer than in the UK. Expecting a winter newborn so will be lining up to get it. It can be truly terrifying when babies and young children are ill and struggling to breathe.

I had it along with the Whooping cough vaccine a few months ago.
I felt grotty for a cpuple of weeks after because I ended up with a chest infection due to a lowered immune syatem.

Id still rather have it than have my baby contract RSV.

I had it! I would have had it regardless, but a contributing factor was having a baby due in January and a toddler in nursery who brings home allll of the illnesses. The vaccine has been around for a long time in other countries so I felt safe taking it. I didn’t have any side effects at all, felt completely normal and it helped with my anxiety when cases of RSV picked up locally. X

I had it, and had no side effects at all. RSV cases are going up, and I didn't want to take the risk of the baby getting very ill. As others have mentioned above, other countries have been giving this vaccination for years, so it's not actually new, the UK was just a bit behind some others.

I had it and had no side effects except a heavy arm for a day. Like other pps have said, it's not new. With the rise of so many infected babies during last couple of winters, they decided to make it available to help prevent babies becoming so unwell.

It’s not “meant to protect” it’s proven to be effective in giving protection to newborn babies from a common disease which is very infectious. When my son was in HDU with it in 2021 the children’s hospital was basically full of young children with bronchiolitis, all of whom were very seriously unwell.

I had it and didn’t notice any significant side effects. My baby had RSV when he was a few months old but relatively mildly which I attribute to having the vaccine.

I have a gyn appointment next week and I'll be getting the vaccine then. You are fortunate that it's free where you are! It's not yet free here but I'll happily pay the 230 euros to protect my baby from RSV.

I had it towards the end of last year - I was fine afterwards and my now 6m old baby is also fine. I know two babies who almost died from rsv so there was no way I wasn't having it!

You can also have the covid vaccine in pregnancy too, I got mine the same time I had the flu one 🙂.

I had it at the same time as the whooping cough vaccine. Sore injection site for less than a day no other symptoms.
Rsv is the leading cause of hospital admission in newborns it was an easy yes for me

You're so lucky it's available. My son ended up being blue-lighted to hospital with bronchiolitis at 10 weeks, and I wish I hadn't had to experience that.

Very few side effects - I had a slight headache and tiredness but could have had those anyway.
Feel so lucky to be able to protect my baby from RSV, it’s proven to protect them and vastly reduce the severity of the virus if they contract it. RSV can be fatal for babies, there was no question in my mind about having it.
Its definitely not new, just new to being available free in the UK.

Such as what negative effects, which have been missed by all the research and regulation?

I had it when I was pregnant last year, no side effects at all. I don't think it even left me with a sore arm!

Think about it logically - nobody is going to urge pregnant women to have a vaccine that isn't overwhelmingly likely to be safe for them and their baby.

I'm 35 weeks pg and had it, had no side effects whatsoever.
I always find people refusing vaccines such a misguided privilege. Get it.

I had it September last year as soon as it came out (baby arrived in October). No side effects and no regrets!

I had mine today !! Only side effect is feeling a little more tired and slightly headachey, other than that I’m completely fine. Definitely worth having it to protect little one when they arrive x

Please have it. RSV cripples children’s wards and PICU’s every year. It makes usually healthy babies very very ill.
