RSV vaccine during pregnancy – has anyone had it?

Hello everyone,
I’m currently pregnant and I’ve already had the whooping cough vaccine. Now I’m considering the RSV vaccine (and also the flu vaccine), but I still feel a bit anxious about it.
I would really appreciate hearing from mums who have had the RSV vaccine during pregnancy – how was your experience? Any side effects? Did it help you feel more reassured about protecting your baby?
Thank you so much 💕

You're so lucky it's available. My son ended up being blue-lighted to hospital with bronchiolitis at 10 weeks, and I wish I hadn't had to experience that.

Same, but at two weeks old, and he’s had years of lung problems since.
How lucky parents are to have a vaccine these days!

I had it, can't remember having any side effects - if I did, I certainly wasn't out of action beyond usual pregnancy tiredness.

Definitely get it - NICU is stressful and upsetting.

I got it (along with the flu and whooping cough vaccines), I was having a winter baby and just couldn’t risk it. especially after looking up how bad RSV could get. I personally didn’t notice any side effects

I have two close friends whose babies were extremely seriously ill from RSV - so glad to hear there is now a vaccine on the NHS. The very fact they are offering it tells you that a significant number of babies were being hospitalised with it.

I listened to a podcast episode with a fairly anti-vax former obstetrician. The only risk he brought up was that a similar vaccine might be correlated with a slight increase in pre term birth, but only in one study, in developing countries, and there may have been randomisation issues at play.
If there was anything to be concerned about, this guy would have found it, so I feel completely safe getting the vaccine! If I did have any nerves, I'd probably just wait until 33 weeks.
Also it wasn't available in pregnancy with my first (2022), but she had the vaccine at 6 weeks old as part of a trial with no side affects whatsoever.

I promise you that pregnant women are the LAST group to have any kind of experimental vaccine rolled out to. It has to be extensively tested in all other groups of people before it's tested on pregnant women, let alone rolled out as standard.

My youngest was in HDU at 8 weeks with bronchiolitis and tube fed as he couldn't breathe enough to feed. Wish we'd had it available.

Sorry to bump a dormant thread but can you remember what podcast this was? I’m interested to listen as someone who’s 25 weeks pregnant and soon to be offered the RSV vaccine. Thanks!

I had it, didn’t hesitate as I’ve seen first hand the devastating and long term effects of RSV on babies.

OP, I had my DS just before the RSV vaccine was made available. I had a dreadful cold when I had him, and unsurprisingly we were at A&E at 10 days old, with DS desperately struggling to breathe. He was on oxygen in hospital for a week, hooked up to monitors and I was banned from breastfeeding for a while as his stomach couldn't be filled so his lungs had room. His crying in hunger and for need of comfort absolutely broke me.

Take the vaccine.
