Hi I was looking for some advice please, I’ve had a massive shock today of a positive pregnancy test, my missed period I’ve been thinking I’m in early menopause…I took a first response as I had some spare from when I was TTC and something come to me while I was cleaning as my boobs are so sore today and I thought could it be…rule it out! So I didn’t the test and the result come up straight away within seconds, so I did a clear blue and the result was there before the control panel had even absorbed any unrine, so I went and got a clear blue digital and it said Pregnant within seconds and then flashed up 2-3 weeks but I will be 7 weeks as I log and track everything…is this something to worry about? I have attached pics of my tests..thank you

As I understand it, clearblue tests count from roughly the time of conception, not the first day of your last period

ThisOpenLimeDuck · 01/06/2025 20:31

im so confused and in utter shock trying to get my head around it, I have a screen shot of my logged cycles which I will post, I have a very short cycle usually around 23 days but I’m assuming now the period I have logged for 3 days at the start of May could quite possibly have been implantation? It was very light but my periods are and the bleed happened the day it was due as my period that’s why I had no reason to believe my absent period was pregnancy, the days you can see with the hearts underneath are the days I had intercouse and haven’t had it since..so do you think I would be 3-4 weeks maybe? Thank you for replying

Congratulations!! The weeks indicator is from conception not missed period and it's also only accurate with the first urine of the day so that's probably why you didn't get the 3+

Thank you I’m in disbelief, my children are young adults 😳

Those tests are not accurate enough to be used for medical diagnosis. Please don't stress over it.

Oh really? It’s been 22 years since I’ve been here they weren’t even around then this is all new to me lol

Oh my goodness, I'm sure it was a shock for you and probably for them too. But what a lovely surprise! Hopefully your other children will be a good help lol

BertieBotts · 01/06/2025 20:41

If you are old enough to have adult children and have first suspected menopause, it might be worth a call to your GP to ask if they would recommend any tests vs just the usual booking in with a midwife at 10 weeks. It is possible to have a hCG blood test done to assess whether the levels are doubling correctly. I have never heard of this being done routinely in the UK, but it's always possible something has changed.

BertieBotts · 01/06/2025 20:45

The other thing you could do if you wanted is book a private scan, there are clinics now which will see you for this. That would allow you more clarity over dates. Again GP may be able to advise if they would do an early scan through the NHS, I know they do this if you are high risk for ectopic pregnancy, which can be the case if you're taking hormonal birth control or have a coil.

BertieBotts · 01/06/2025 20:47

I had a big gap too although 10 years not 22 Smile My eldest is 16 so I know that feeling of not being sure how things work any more.

Chick981 · 01/06/2025 22:22

I never got a 3+ weeks with my youngest and he’s now 2. Congratulations, hope you’re ok, must be one hell of a shock.

I went for this today they are saying it’s a PUL pregnancy in unknown location I’m so confused I went for reassurance and left worse off. It can one of 3 things ectopic pregnancy, too early to see anything or a miscarriage so have to go for bloods now tomorrow and for a few days to check HCG levels

I’m so sorry to read that….those line tests were so dark 😢 But CB 2-3 would indicate fairly low HCG if you were 7 weeks….I’m keeping everything crossed for you that your dates are just awry 🤞

I know 💔 I’ve done another one today and again was positive before the control window had even absorbed anything il attach photo here top is yesterday bottom is today so defo a stronger result today..so confused!! I had a bit of a bleed on the 2nd of May which I thought was my period a day or two early but was only very light holiday on to the fact it could of been implantation bleed maybe and that would mean I’m actually only 4 weeks today and it’s too early to show…as it couldn’t of been a miscarriage as was only light spotting and I wouldn’t still be testing positive 4 weeks later so god knows I will update when I know more x

Are you getting your blood levels checked? I had a surprise pregnancy at 42 - no idea I was pregnant as I'd had very light "periods" but ended up being ectopic.
I really wish for a happy outcome for you but it's definitely worth getting checked out ❤️

I’m so sorry to hear that, and yeah I have been referred so I go tomorrow for bloods, and then I’m assuming for a few days to check how they develop..did you have any symptoms? Ive never even heard of a PUL until today not sure what symptoms I should be looking out for with ectopic x

@ThisOpenLimeDuck I started with slight bowel pains for a number of weeks/constipation but thought nothing of it because I was on the minipill and my husband had a vasectomy about two months prior to confirmed pregnancy!
Because I had no idea I was pregnant (was still having "periods", I only ended up testing when my symptoms got a lot worse and then ended up in emergency surgery within hours of finding out I was pregnant (ovary and tube removed).
I'm fine now but ideally I would have known sooner. I was probably just under 12 weeks but can't be entirely sure.

My god that’s awful I’m so sorry 😞 and it’s this situation where yesterday I was horrified!! But today knowing it could be taken away from me it’s made me want it more than anything and 24 hours ago I was unaware and the thought had never even crossed my mind..but I believe what’s meant to be is meant to be and it’s all in gods plan ❤️

@ThisOpenLimeDuck
My situation was a little different in that I had two much older children with my ex-husband both in their teens and then a 2 yo with my now husband (she's his only child) so realistically another child would have been incredibly difficult as we only have a three-bed house as it is.
Having said that, I still do grieve our loss and it's hard now that our daughter is 5 and desperate for a sibling (my older two live with their dad for the majority so she's in essence an "only" child).
I really hope all is well for you ❤️

Yeah that’s really rubbish!! I really ttc maybe 2 years ago and it just didn’t happen for us, and I remember saying it could be worse I’m lucky I have had 2 children and my friend said it doesn’t mean that your situation is any less painful as someone who has none and struggling and it’s so right!! ❤️

I think the urgent symptoms of ectopic would be vaginal bleeding and/or one sided abdominal pain or shoulder tip pain. If you experience any of these go to A&E immediately, don't wait for your appointment.

Other than that I would ask when you go to get blood taken as they should be able to tell you what to look for. It's good they are seeing you so promptly. They usually take blood two days apart so they can check how the levels are increasing. Fingers crossed it's just earlier on than you thought, which can be the case if you ovulated later than you realised or you did have a period at the start of May. Stronger positive on a new test is a good sign. Good luck for tomorrow 🍀
