Bleeding at 7 weeks pregnant.

Hey, I was wondering whether anyone experienced any bleeding in the early stages of their pregnancies? I’m 7+2 and had this bleed yesterday which lasted maybe an hour or 2, I’m now only passing brown discharge/old blood. I’m not getting any pain as such only feeling like I’m carrying a water balloon. GP phoned the EPAU who have booked a scan for me for next week as they don’t want to scan too early and miss a heartbeat and misdiagnose a MC. It doesn’t feel like prior miscarriages I’ve had, so I was just wondering if anyone else experienced anything similar and went on to have normal pregnancies?

I had random small amounts of bleeding with dc2. No pain, more spotting, light pink and watery or brown. I was never given a reason for it but it did stop in the second trimester and dc2 was born at term and fully healthy.

Wishing you all the best and praying your scan goes well x

Sorry your picture has just come up, I didn't have that amount but do know a few friends who did and it was something to do with their cervix rather than the pregnancy itself. Hormonal changes I believe.

Thanks for your take hun. I’m hoping it’s not a MC and it’s cervical changes or at worst a subchorionic bleed, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking. 6 days is such a long time to wait for the scan 🙈

I had the same with my first, at exactly 7 weeks. Maybe a smaller amount but it turned out to be ok, very sassy nearly 4 year old now!

RitaFires · 30/05/2025 19:22

I had bleeding at just after 7 weeks, it started out red and then turned brown. It wasn't enough to fill a pad but it definitely gave me a fright. I had a scan at 8 weeks and everything was fine. I didn't have any more bleeding for the rest of the pregnancy and baby is perfectly healthy and sleeping in my arms as I type.

I hope everything goes well at your scan.

SLH18 · 30/05/2025 19:35

I had similar bleeding at 5 weeks and bled on/off till16 weeks. EPAU scanned me a few times to monitor and all was fine. No cause for the bleeding was identified but my little one is now a healthy 11 month old.

I hope your scan goes well!

I had bleeding too in early pregnancy, I think up to ten weeks and then another bleed at 15 weeks. Probably about the same amount as you in the early weeks. DD is 18 months now, had a great pregnancy despite the bleeding. Bleeding is relatively common and not always something sinister so all the very best for your scan, i really hope everything is fine for you

starrynight009 · 30/05/2025 21:53

I had quite a bad bleed at 6/7 weeks. I phoned 111 in the middle of the night in floods of tears as I was on my own and assumed I was having a MC. They scanned me at the EPAU the next day I think it was and all was fine. DD turned 6 yesterday. I hope it all turns out okay for you too.

Another sassy 4 year old here after subchorionic hematoma bleeding (spelt wrong I'm sure!) At 6 and 7 weeks.

I bet the wait is unbearable, thinking of you x

Hi OP just to say I’m currently 5-6 weeks and having similar with some lower back pain which has gone with paracetamol. Going to call EPAU on Monday and see what they say. Just sending solidarity! Horrible not knowing what’s going on isn’t it.

Hey! I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this aswell 😔. The not knowing is the worst thing - I’m trying to stay positive and hoping for the best - it’s reassuring after hearing about others experiences and them going on to have healthy babies, but I’m preparing for the worst just incase 😔. I really hope you get seen and you have a positive outcome 🤞🏼🫶🏼

I had bleeding at 6, 8, 10 & 12 weeks with DS (now 14) I lived in the EPAU and it was mega stressful! I’ve also had a MC at 7 weeks, the main difference was with DS all of my other symptoms remained including mega sickness (it really was a dreadful time!) but with my MC all symptoms disappeared too.

Good luck!

Thank you for commenting ☺️. I’m so sorry to hear about your MC. I’ve had 2 MC’s previously and whatever this is, isn’t really giving me the same symptoms. The only problem with this pregnancy is that I’ve not really had any symptoms like I had with my DD, I’ve only really experienced nausea on and off, which has remained so it’s hard to tell what’s going on to be honest. I’m so pleased everything turned out good with your DS! I can’t imagine how stressed you were bleeding that often. I’m hoping for the same outcome 🤞🏼🫶🏼

My first pregnancy was smooth as anything, no bleeding, didn’t even know bleeding could be normal in pregnancy. My second pregnancy, bled the entire way through starting from 8 weeks, more than in your pic sometimes and sometimes bright red and I think the last time was around 32 weeks ish. Every couple of weeks there would be more blood and I was in and out of hospital having anti-D injections. It was such a worry the entire way through but got easier when I started to feel her move as I knew she was ok. Everything was alright in the end - 16 months old now! Hope it goes well for you.

vivicoco · 31/05/2025 12:17

Sorry forgot to say, they never found out why I was bleeding. Couldn’t find anything on scans or examinations. No problems since.

Thank you for sharing ☺️. Omg I can only imagine how stressful a time that was for you experiencing bleeding for so long! I’m so so happy your DD was okay 🙌🏼. With my DD I didn’t have any of this, just the odd spotting in discharge, so like you I didn’t know that bleeding like this could happen and be normal, I always assumed bleeding meant MC. I’m hoping for the same outcome as you 🤞🏼🫶🏼

Thanks, agree it’s the lack of knowing for sure that’s draining! I’m trying to remain philosophical and positive in general, what will be will be and will be for the best. I’ve never been pregnant before so not sure what to expect either way. The lack of severe pain and heavy bleeding leaves me wondering if all will be okay but I think the fact I’ve got any pain at all is not a positive sign from what I’ve read.
