My 2 year old knows I'm pregnant... I don't know how!

So.. I found out a week ago that I am pregnant although I haven't told a sole except the EPU due to previous MC and ectopics etc. I just don't bother telling anyone until it's actually confirmed. However, I was laying in bed with my 2 year old last night and she pointed at my tummy and said "tummy, baby" and proceeded to put her head on my belly and say.. it's okay baby! Then gave my tummy and kiss and then started bouncing on the bed like nothing happened?!

I'm not sure if I have a psychic 2 year old 😂 but no one else knows yet so I'd like for her not to tell anyone 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm only about 5/6 weeks so no visible signs etc! There is no way she could know.. only I know!

Has anyone else's toddlers picked up on pregnancy?

I doubt that she knows you're pregnant to be honest. Maybe she has just recently learned that babies come from mummy's tummy.

sel2223 · 05/03/2025 08:02

My girl was 4 but she did something similar early on.....we were lying on her bed one night and she rubbed my belly and said 'mummy, is there a baby in your tummy?' Then, before I could compose an answer, she put her head against my tummy and answered herself saying 'yes, yes there is'

ThanksItHasPockets · 05/03/2025 09:44

Congratulations, OP!

She doesn't know that you're pregnant. It's a coincidence and she is playing. She's learning that babies grow in mummies' tummies and because you are her mummy she's applying that knowledge to your tummy.

You don't need to do anything. Small children tell all sorts of tall tales as part of their play and anyone experienced in childcare knows not to pay too much attention until it is confirmed by an adult.

Glitchymn1 · 05/03/2025 09:47

Aww that’s so cute! Congratulations OP.

Pinkbirds · 05/03/2025 17:54

Well I think this is spooky and interesting.
My friend knew I was pregnant, hadn’t seen her for ages, we hadn’t seen each other in person. Sometimes you can’t explain it

DarkMagicStars · 05/03/2025 17:57

Probably heard you even when you think they can’t.

Probably heard you even when you think they can’t.

But OP hasn't told anyone

TumbledTussocks · 05/03/2025 18:03

OP I think that's really magic and special Brew

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 05/03/2025 18:05

Have you spoken to the unit over the phone with her in the house?
Told the father in person or over the phone while she's off playing and seemingly not listening?

InTheRainOnATrain · 05/03/2025 18:05

Mine would say this all the time at around age 3. I wasn’t pregnant. One of his nursery teachers and a few of his friends’ mums were. So he learned babies grow in mummy’s tummy and I’m mummy and therefore it’s a logical thing for a toddler to say. I don’t think yours has any psychic powers! Cute though and congratulations!

flutterbye99 · 05/03/2025 18:11

Thanks Guys.. I haven't mentioned it to the dad yet either. 😳 I have a scan tomorrow so maybe after that I will tell him! Or maybe she will at this rate 😂 but definitely no way she would have heard! Wait until she finds out mummy pig is pregnant..! Maybe it is just a coincidence but she isn't really into babies etc.. she's more into her toy cars 🚗

Thanks for all responding 💕

I think this is lovely and so speclal. I do believe that children can sense things we can't.

I don't get the skepticism... We accept that dogs and other animals have instincts and can sense things so why not human children?!

PinkSour · 05/03/2025 18:34

My 3 year old tells me he has two babies in his tummy all the time. His keyworker at nursery is pregnant so he just applies that to everyone, even the cat.

Butterflysunshine01 · 05/03/2025 18:40

I am a bit woo but I completely believe that children can see your spirit babies in your aura!! A special needs student that I taught told me there was a baby in my tummy when I didn’t even know- I was about two weeks along! And I didn’t have a food baby bump and we hadn’t been learning about it! It was very strange as most of the time he was non verbal.

Superscientist · 05/03/2025 19:44

Spooky timings. My daughter has been asking if there's a baby in my tummy since she was about 2.5. she's now 4!
I've had a couple of miscarriages and she has said it at times when I'm pregnant and I'm second guessing if she has some intuition but then she will say the same a few months later after I've lost the pregnancy..

SErunner · 05/03/2025 19:46

She doesn't, it's just something they say sometimes. Ignore it or deny for the time being - 9 months is a very long time for a 2 year old!!

justanothercrapbedtime · 05/03/2025 19:52

Once my eldest about age 3 and after I had another miscarriage told me not to worry mummy one day you'll have twins...a boy and a girl. By that point I'd dropped £30k on IVF, lost both tubes to ectopics and all but given up. Managed to scrape together another £10k for IVF ended up with...boy/girl twins 😳
Now if only she could give me the winning lottery numbers!

YouveGotAFastCar · 05/03/2025 19:59

My three year old knew I was pregnant; twice. The first was in the Spring, and then he told me the baby was “gone” three days before I miscarried. Then this time, he told me there was a baby sister before I tested positive, and I’m 34 weeks pregnant with a girl.

I’m not at all woo, but I presume he can smell a difference or something 🤷‍♀️ And knowing the gender was just a coincidence!

I only tested because he told me, so he definitely hadn’t overheard me talking about it; and he’s never cared for baby dolls or anything, he’s a tractors/cars/diggers kid. No calls to the hospital or anything for him to overhear, as I didn’t know; and that’s all done by online form where I am.

SonoPazziQuestiRomani · 05/03/2025 20:08

Sounds like this is a cute coincidence 🥰

Saying that though, my DP knew I was pregnant the second time around before I even got a BFP. We were TTC and I mentioned a few days before my period was due that I had a familiar metallic taste in my mouth and he said "hmm, I did wonder as you've smelt different the last couple of days, similar to when you were pregnant last time". He reckons my natural smell is different when pregnant, and he was right as I got a BFP the following week! I guess it must be the effect of pregnancy hormones. I don't know if it was noticeable to other people but hopefully not! 😅

So maybe small children are able to detect when mummy is pregnant by a change in her scent too? 🤔

flutterbye99 · 05/03/2025 20:09

These are the most beautiful stories 💕💕 really made me smile reading them! If any of the other psychic children out there fancy sharing lottery numbers with me too then that'd be amazing 🥲 my 2 YO would probably give them to her nan before me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I live with 7 other people and 3 of them are my little people and all my calls are done on my own and on the school run! So no chance of anyone hearing me either!

I have been through it many times when I've told people in pregnant and miscarried or had ectopics and I don't put myself or them through that anymore. X

DD1 did age 3 when I was pregnant with DS, she said 'Mummy there is a baby in your tummy and it's a boy'. I was still having periods and breastfeeding DD2, so didn't find out that she was actually right until I was 12 weeks then the 20 week scan confirmed that he was a boy.

menopausalfart · 05/03/2025 20:16

We all smell differently to our children. They may pick up on changes due to our hormones. How they can detect a pregnancy, is beyond me. It's a lovely story to tell them, though.

TY78910 · 05/03/2025 20:22

Have you said anything like 'careful of my tummy' when playing? I did that and my DD was too clever for her own good!

PoorLion · 05/03/2025 20:32

My DD told me that there was a baby in my tummy before I told anyone.

Kitkat2065 · 05/03/2025 20:53

Not much child but my dog! He's a playful boisterous type and for about a week he became the most placid dog, wouldn't leave my side, head at the top of my leg whenever I sat down. Literally got to the point I said to my partner about taking him to the vets because the behaviour change was so dramatic. Did a pregnancy test and as soon as I found out he went back to being his normal knob head self, almost like an "I don't have to protect you now, you can do it yourself". Two kids later and he adores the pair of them
