46 peri or pregnant?

I've read perimenopause can cause hcg surges. I've just done multiple tests with multiple brands and I'm getting positives. Not strong positives but definitely + even the clear blue digital.

How likely is it that I am pregnant? What do I do from here? I'm planning on testing again over the next couple of days to see if the lines get darker and I have a routine gp apt at the end of the week so I'll ask then but I'd love to hear as much info and advice as possible.

My babies are almost 16 and 11!

In honesty I would bet it's more likely that you're pregnant. Do you have periods and if so when was your last one?

2024YR4 · 18/02/2025 16:32

What made you test ? I assume a late period or symptoms ? I think it’s much more likely you are pregnant than it being a perimenopause hcg spike

MyUmberSeal · 18/02/2025 16:33

I suspect you are pregnant. Despite people thinking it’s almost impossible at 46, there are dozens of threads on here from women the same age as you, who have found themselves pregnant.

Yes I do. I came off the mini pill about 8 months ago to see if it would improve a health issue I have (it didn't) and we haven't been using any contraception. From what I read it says there was only a 1% chance at age 45 😅😂😂😂 my last period started on 24th January so I would be due around Thursday but it's been all over the place with the length of each cycle to be honest.

Is it even possible for menopause to give you a positive test? It’s detecting HCG.

I would assume you’re 100% pregnant.

No symptoms yet other than some cramping now. I knew I was due around now and I love peeing on a stick 🙈😂 didn't truly think it could happen but I suppose I have been feeling really broody since the kids are older. Think I'm losing my tiny mind to be honest, I'm not taking growing old very gracefully.

I have read it can. I think I'm best asking for a blood test to confirm levels.

I should think the most likely outcome is that you're pregnant. How would you feel about it if that is the case?

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 18/02/2025 19:48

I had no idea hcg could surge at any other point other than pregnancy!!

CuteEasterBunny · 18/02/2025 20:27

I’d feel the same. I’m broody having a teen too 😂

My nan was in your situation. She had surprise number 5 at 45ish the other 4 were 13-21 yo.
It was a shock but she settled into the family. My dad was the eldest and helped and she was only a couple of years older than myself so she was always included on our days out and in some ways was more of a cousin than an auntie. She's now mid 40s and 4 of the 5 are close.
There were battles when she was going through her teens which was possibly more personality than anything else. My grandfather died young so she lost her dad in her 20s but that was bad luck really and she did take it hard but the others found losing their dad in their 30s hard too. My nan lived well into her 80s and as my auntie had her children young and they got to know and have a relationship with my grandparents.
There are always whatifs and it's easy to fix on the negatives but there can be so many more positives!
Best of luck with your pregnancy

Hey have you done another test this morning? X

coldscottishmum · 19/02/2025 09:29

How do you feel OP? Likely hood is your pregnant. HCG multiplies really quick, could you do another digital in a few days and see if it goes from 1-2 to 2-3 or 3+? I know you say your babies are growing ip now - but it looks like you have another brewing! Congratulations (if your happy) 🥰

Puppupandaway · 25/02/2025 08:40

@Herb1978 How are you? Have you found out for certain yet? Hope you got the news you wanted xx

Highfivemum · 25/02/2025 08:44

Congratulations most def a positive

fashionqueen0123 · 25/02/2025 08:50

I don’t think menopause can cause hcg rises that would show on a test except in rare cases.

How do you feel about being pregnant? My grandads mother was 47 when she had him!

Exactly the same happened to me but I was 44, almost 45. I miscarried soo after I found out. I would be sanguine about it as the miscarriage rate at this age is high.
