46 peri or pregnant?

I've read perimenopause can cause hcg surges. I've just done multiple tests with multiple brands and I'm getting positives. Not strong positives but definitely + even the clear blue digital.

How likely is it that I am pregnant? What do I do from here? I'm planning on testing again over the next couple of days to see if the lines get darker and I have a routine gp apt at the end of the week so I'll ask then but I'd love to hear as much info and advice as possible.

My babies are almost 16 and 11!

Congratulations OP ! I had my second at 43, friend had her one and only at 46, my Great Grandmother had her last baby of 6 at 46, and my friend was her mum’s third baby at 47. Having a last baby in ones mid forties was not uncommon at all pre contraception. I had a friend years ago who was one of twelve ! His Mum had her last in her mid forties, she had a baby every couple of years from when she was first married. They lived in an enormous, rambling house, full of music and people, his Mum was a very calm woman..I suppose you’d have to be !

I don’t think menopause can cause hcg rises that would show on a test except in rare cases.

How do you feel about being pregnant? My grandads mother was 47 when she had him!

I feel absolutely terrified 😂 sooo much more worries this time with all the age and health complications. I'm just trying to take one day at a time but it's so difficult not to completely freak out. I'm going to book a private ultrasound around 8 weeks but even that seems so far away!

OMG I came on here to look for similar stories - I'm in the same boat. I'm 47, have 2 teens, and earlier this year found myself with a VERY unplanned pregnancy to contend with.

Was shocked at first but have come around to it now. My teens are really happy and excited about it, DH was absolutely floored with shock initially but now feeling more accepting. It helps that we're Irish so it's not considered very strange here.

Currently nearly 20 weeks and can feel baby kicking away, which is surreal.

I actually don't feel too bad, apart from a bit tired, I'm still walking everywhere (5 or 6 km every day) and quite active generally. I felt a lot better once I had the NIPT test back and a few scans done which all seem to be normal.

Sending solidarity! Hope the wait until your scan doesn't feel too long :)

What lovely news you came back to share! Congratulations OP & congratulations to you too @CrepituErgoSum , what a blessing 🥰

I hope you both have the happiest and healthiest of pregnancies! X

Congrats OP.

I would consider getting an NIPT done when you can, usually from 10 weeks. Pregnancy is one thing, but unfortunately the risk of genetic issues and MC is very high. Some areas offer NIPT on the NHS, but I've read of people having to wait till 14ish weeks. I paid for it and was so glad I found out so early on that there were issues.

When my nan was 22, her mother had a 'change of life baby' at 45. My nan was apparently disgusted that they were 'still doing that' and horrified what the neighbours might think! I'm glad times have changed 😆

Oh wow! Thank you for replying. It totally hasn't sunk in, it just feels crazy. I never thought I'd be going through all these stages again. The 12 week scan feels like forever away. That's so reassuring to hear this. I'm terrified to tell my two girls 😂 all the best for the rest of your pregnancy!

@Herb1978 same to you! Definitely come back & update us how everything goes.

I'll be interested to hear how your teens take the news once you tell them, ours were thrilled :)

I most definitely am! 😬😬😬 and completely terrified 😅😂 xx

@Herb1978 what made you say you definitely are, did you have a blood test? Was that on the NHS?

I'm in same boat, 47 and can't quite believe it, I've only done one home test but it said 3+ weeks so I think it's about as conclusive as a home test can get. If a blood test is available it would put my mind at rest though. I keep thinking I must be imagining the whole thing!
