After my drama a few days ago with spotting, I now have tonsillitis!!!! REALLY BAD!!!!

Dr says not to take anything- even paracetamol, if I can do without it.

Am cooling myself with a damp flannel, drinking hot lemon and gargling with salt water but still feel like shit.

Can anybody offer some great pregnancy friendly tips and put my mind at rest that this won't harm my bean????

I was about to say paracetamol as its ok to take during pregnancy but if your dr says no.

Try and get lots of rest.

mummy2olivia · 08/05/2008 19:01

Dr says best to avoid ANYTHING between 5 and 9 weeks if you can as this is when nervous system is developing.

I didn't know that as MW told me that paracetamol is fine.

I've ice cream is good but I think that its only once they have been taken out.

But who needs an excuse to eat ice cream? I don't

mummy2olivia · 08/05/2008 19:09

get to bed and sleep immediately

kayzisexpecting · 08/05/2008 19:11

Yeah they are cold!! I think it because it is cold that's why it helps.

Flame · 08/05/2008 19:14

NO! No mini-milk. Something to do with the milk makes you secrete more of summat. Ice lollies only

mummy2olivia · 08/05/2008 19:25

Oh Flame- my guru!!!

Ive decided- am gonna whip them out myself. Am just sterilising a kitchen knife........

Awwww Poor you!!

Flame · 08/05/2008 19:37

A fine plan

I had a hideous virus thing at the weekend that I thought was tonsillitis (wasn't in the end, but same feeling) - I spent 2 days in bed shivering and sweating, and that was with paracetamol Wish I could take pills for you or summat

mummy2olivia · 08/05/2008 19:42

I've taken a couple of paracetamol. I work in pharmacy FFS- it is safe!!!! And I cant eat cos it hurts so muc. So have taken one dose so I can have my dinner which is going cold on the side.

Oh god- what have i done??????!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Flame · 08/05/2008 19:44

It will be fine

I have never heard of no paracetamol in first 8 weeks anyway, therefore tis not true

lardylumps · 08/05/2008 19:48

It will be fine. My doctor told me that paracetamol does not pass through the placenta which is why it is safe to use in pg. I used it with dd when I broke my tooth and couldn?t get to see dentist for 3 days.

You need to eat to feed the bean so you have to do what you can. Dont take too much.

kayzisexpecting · 08/05/2008 19:51

I was told its fine but to take them every 6 hours instead of 4

mummy2olivia · 08/05/2008 19:51

Have literally had 2 spoonfuls of ready brek all day- am wasting away!!

OP posts:
mummy2olivia · 08/05/2008 19:53

Oh and 2 halls soothers- what is the nutritional value of halls soothers?

Oh shit I was taking them every 4 hours yesterday- that wont matter will it?

OP posts:
lardylumps · 08/05/2008 19:56

I took them every four hours, as long as they are basic ones. Try every 6 hours from now on though if you can. Are you aloud to have that antiseptic spray? I think it is made by vicks that is really good as well it numbs the throat..

mummy2olivia · 08/05/2008 19:58

EVERYTHING says 'check with doctor or pharmacist'. I know loads of pharmacists but none that I want to tell that I'm preggers!

OP posts:
lardylumps · 08/05/2008 19:59

I lied it is not made by vicks but here is a link to it:

Pidge · 08/05/2008 20:01

mummy2olivia - I ended up taking two separate courses of oral antibiotics between 6 and 12 weeks, so a couple of paracetamol is going to be fine ...

poor you - take care with the tonsillitis and get it checked out again if it doesn't start improving soon.

AHLH · 08/05/2008 20:03

I have a horrible head cold, not as bad as tonsillitis (had tonsils out 20 years ago) and the pharmacist told me I can only have Lockets.

Hot Ribena works makes a change from honey ~& lemon too.
