Bleeding after internal ultrasound and heartbeat seen

Hi Everyone, please don’t read and run
so I have a history of miscarriages 7!
so New Year’s Eve I found out I was pregnant since then I’ve had really sore breasts but no sickness 2 days ago I started spotting brown when wiping and one streak of red I paid for a private scan to reassure myself and baby was seen with a heart beat right on 6 weeks 2 days where I should be I was so so happy but then an hour later I have started bleeding red and it hasn’t really stopped lighter but then a bit heavier again. Now I don’t know what to think anyone else has this? It was internal so unsure if that’s caused the bleeding? Or if it’s something worse this was all yesterday and today still bleeding

I'm sorry this is so stressful :( It's great news that you saw a baby with a heartbeat, that's a really positive sign. If you haven't already I'd contact the EPU - with your previous losses you should have been seen by a recurrent miscarriage clinic and offered to try progesterone for your pregnancy - or are you already using this?

It could be that the scan irritated your cervix and caused the bleeding, or you've got a small SCH (although possibly that would have been picked up by the scan, private places aren't always the most diligent). Bleeding isn't always a sign of a miscarriage, personally I had a quite large bright red bleed at 8 weeks and the pregnancy continued to term. But with your history I'd want to get started on progesterone asap if you aren't already.

Just to reassure you, I had a lot of bleeding with all of my pregnancies. So much so that with DC 3 I thought I was having normal periods and didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 14 weeks.

I bled for the first few months - at my 12 week scan they said I had a subchoriomic hematoma - which is basically a little collection of blood around the sac. Apparently very common and they don't know why they form, said it would keep 'passing away' until all gone - I think it stopped about week 20.

Honestly guys thank you so much for replying to my post it honestly means so much to me I will definitely be asking for progesterone. I just feel so sad because just when I think it’s stopping the bleeding starts again and it’s red not brown 😔 I hope everything is okay this baby is so loved and wanted xxx

Have you tried calling your local epu? They might be able to help xx

I'm so sorry for your losses, I think as you've had losses before you can self refer to early pregnancy unit and they'll see you xxx

Hello I had bleeding (red) three times in early pregnancy and each looked like a miscarriage, once I had more bleeding after an internal scan. My baby was absolutely fine I had a Subchronionic Hematoma which went before 12 week scan - just to give you a bit of reassurance x

Hi Guys! So good news! Baby was still there with a heartbeat! They couldn’t see any bleeding around baby and can’t see why I would be bleeding but I am still bleeding red quite a lot obviously had another internal scan she has prescribed me progesterone which will be available to pick up tomorrow just hope baby sticks until then ❤️ I just don’t understand the bleeding I never had this with my daughter who is 6 now xxx

That's great news! Super pleased for you ❤That's maddening they didn't have any progesterone available for you today though.

Sometimes they just can't find a cause of the bleeding. They never did with me and it was on and off until I was about 24w pregnant.

@Waitingformyrainbowx so when it started the first time it was heavy enough my bathroom looked like a murder scene. I had my booking in appointment the following morning and I cancelled it because I presumed I had miscarried. It lightened to just spotting after a day. I only found out that I was still pregnant a couple of days later after I had a scan to check the miscarriage was complete because I wasn't bleeding any more (most wonderful shock in the world). I was on progesterone throughout all of this though so that might have stopped the bleeding carrying on too long.

Did anyone also have cramping I’m worried now as I’ve started having cramping high up in my stomach

Cramping is very common. Sometimes it indicates an ectopic pregnancy but you know it’s not that. So the other reason is your womb getting used to being pregnant. Congratulations!

I had cramps - but they went away with paracetamol.
