Did you know you were pregnant, even before you took a test?

I remember with my first, I was walking home from a night out with friends and I had never experienced needing a wee like that before. Next day I found out I was pregnant.

I didn’t get any indication (that I can remember) with my second.

I’m now 7 DPO and I’m noticing some symptoms or maybe I’m imagining them.

What were some very early signs for you?

First 2 pregnancies, not a single symptom prior but had a BFP at 9 and 10 DPO. Coincidentally they both ended in mc.

This time, I didn't get a BFP until 12 DPO however started getting really sensitive breasts as well as a really odd bloated feeling. Both very unusual for me. Tests were negative in the days before 12 DPO. I'm now 15 weeks along.

I've always 'just known'.

Even with my first, I knew. The test was negative. I knew I was pregnant (unplanned so not hoping to be). The next day the test was positive.

I've got four children and I've known on all of them pretty much at the point of implantation as the lines on the early tests are always squinters yet I always know.

Weird.

My boss knew before I did. I was complaining of tiredness and he took one look at me and said, "are you sure you aren't pregnant?"

Took a test, and, yes, I was.

Dracarys1 · 12/01/2025 11:28

I had implantation bleeds both times and with DC2 I felt so bloated, like I couldn't suck my tummy in properly and I just 'knew'.

GoldenTobes · 12/01/2025 11:36

I didn't get sore boobs but my nipples went darker in colour and just looked different this happened both times.

thisoldcity · 12/01/2025 11:47

The first time I felt something really weird that same day we'd had unprotected sex, really peculiar feeling of maybe needing the loo, but then it wasn't that, a bit light headed and just really strange. Weeks later I did a test and I knew and remembered that evening of feeling so odd. Never told anyone this as it just sounds a bit unlikely, but I'm sure that was it.

Whatisittomorrow · 12/01/2025 11:53

First- Yes! Very tender boobs and I had never ever had tender boobs
Second- Yea again tender boobs. Not quite as significant but I had a feeling
third- Not really no

Strokethefurrywall · 12/01/2025 11:58

With my first, yes because I was coming to the end of a P90X workout (remember those?!) on 26th Jan and I was all ready to do it and my brain "nope". I couldn't explain it, logically I was disciplined enough to do it and mentally I wanted to but something in me refused.
Next day I drank a glass of wine, thought it tasted odd, husband poured me another and as I was lifting the glass to my mouth by brain said "absolutely not".

Knew I was pregnant, tested next day and it was positive before I'd even finished peeing on the stick.

Second I had no clue, thought I should test because I was gong on a girls weekend, was halfway through a pint of wine when the read said "pregnant".

Goldpanther · 12/01/2025 12:06

Yes, it was through IVF, a fresh transfer and I developed really bad OHSS, which only happens if you are pregnant!

TetHouse · 12/01/2025 12:07

The bone-crushing exhaustion meant I thought it was either pregnancy or a terminal disease. I was staying with a friend in Cornwall and setting out on an easy 15-mile hike, the kind of thing I’d always taken in my stride, when I stood just outside her gate and thought ‘I literally can’t take another step’ and went back to bed.

clarepetal · 12/01/2025 12:10

I suspected it as I was usually spotting before my periods (fibroids) and had no spotting. I was a week late and tested, boom I was pregnant.

LionRumpus · 12/01/2025 12:10

Both times I've been pregnant, I 'knew' it, without any particular symptoms.

I've had other occasions where I've taken tests, but I always knew they would be negative. The ones that were positive, I was only looking for confirmation. I knew they would be positive.

MassiveSalad22 · 12/01/2025 12:11

Yes, all 3x, although I did once think I was pregnant once when I wasn’t too. Have only ever taken 4 pregnancy tests! I also knew DH was going to propose to me when I got home, while I was walking home from work… no signs and was only 21 so not an obvious life stage for a proposal. But I don’t think I’m psychic I just think my intuition must have picked up on subtle factors.

KittyFantastica · 12/01/2025 12:23

Yes, all four times (a 6 week loss, a 9 week MMC, a 19 week stillbirth and current pregnancy at 14DPO).

1st - bubbling period pain and excess wind. Weirdest thing I've ever felt. My belly felt like a cauldron. I expected AF to arrive when it started, but next day no sign, so I tested. Tested 10DPO with extremely faint line.

2nd - warmth/tingling in my belly at 8/9DPO, I don't know how to explain it, I just knew! It was still a shock to see the line. Tested 11DPO with extremely faint line.

3rd - hot flushes, spots and fatigue for three days before positive test and knew from the first hot flushes as I am ALWAYS cold. Tested at 9DPO and immediate visible line.

4th - implantation cramping and sensitive boobs at 7DPO. I was still 5 days away from AF and I always spot for 2-3 days before, but no spotting. I also had a face full of spots again. Tested 9DPO and immediate visible line.

I threw DH's cooked breakfast across the room when he mildly complained that his egg was a little too well done. Then I went out to the driveway and locked myself in the car and cried, DH came out and asked me to come back inside.
I refused but unlocked the car and let him get in. We sat there in silence for a bit before he suggested I go inside and do a pregnancy test.

MummaMummaJumma · 12/01/2025 13:41

I’m going to take a test next week. I’ll update to let you know if my symptoms/intuition was right ☺️. I just feel so bloated/crampy and I swear I can feel the changes in my body.

With my first, I just knew from conception, pretty much. I know that sounds ridiculous but I just felt different straight away. But, we were trying so I was looking out for signs.

With my second, I didn't feel anything. I only took a test because I was late. But we weren't trying.

AmethystRuby · 12/01/2025 13:47

around 5 or 6 dpo i felt extremely tired after a family do. fell asleep at 9pm. that was my first clue. tested positive 3 days later!

mondaytosunday · 12/01/2025 13:48

With my first I swear I felt implantation pains. They woke me up. I waited a bit then took a test and very clear dark line.
With my second I wasn't sure at all. I was late and took a test and it was quite faint (though nothing as faint as what you see posted on MN). I was also quite crampy. Waited a few days took another test. Again faint line but I wasn't convinced. As I'm a type 1 diabetic I go in a separate track and was at the hospital and the midwife said the scanner was free so it was only then that I really believed I was pregnant.
With both early signs were cramps (which could mean a period obviously) slight nausea (which never left the whole pregnancy) and a feeling of heaviness down there, but those came after a positive test other than the cramps.

YeGodsandLittleFishies · 12/01/2025 13:51

Years and years of infertility and several rounds of ivf.

The day I did the pregnancy test I just knew. No symptoms, I just knew.

Snowmanscarf · 12/01/2025 13:54

Can’t remember first one. Second one, yes. Couldn't stand the smell of tomato sauce or barbecues, and went off red wine. Was a few weeks in.

FutureFry · 12/01/2025 13:55

With both I had a scratchy throat and felt a little rundown, but may just be coincidence.

Fam23 · 12/01/2025 15:11

My nipples were hurting from 7dpo this time, I couldn’t even dry myself without feeling like they were being pulled off. No other symptoms though.

Lobsterteapot · 12/01/2025 15:12

Yep pregnant or dying I felt that rough

Onlyonekenobe · 12/01/2025 15:40

Nobody I know believes me, but I knew within 4 days of having sex for my first pregnancy. Breasts fizzing and tight, abdomen felt constantly tight. I know it was 4 days because of DH’s work travel schedule.

Second time round was taken completely by surprise when test was positive.
