It must be different between trusts. Living in Sussex, I’ve seen my midwife at 16W, 24W and next one at 28W. At 24W appt she gave me the MATB1 form.

Also, had my flu and whooping cough vaccines at 20W scan and RSV at the upcoming 28W blood test.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 27/01/2025 23:22

@Zeeha I think the surgery might have got confused when I rang them. I have an appointment next week, so I'm definitely going to ask or will try and contact my midwife to ask her. I've had the flu vaccine and will be having the RSV one at 28 weeks.

BodeAkuna · 28/01/2025 10:12

It's very annoying that midwives are not trained to give vaccinations. The midwives I have met agree. I suggested to one of them today that I write to PALS and ask for midwives to be offered training and she agreed that would be a good idea.

Zeeha · 28/01/2025 12:14

@BodeAkuna that must also differ for where you are too as a midwife offered me the whooping cough vaccine a couple of months ago and administered it herself. I can see on the NHS app my GP surgery was notified by a letter so they had a record. Definitely a lot easier than booking in through the GP!

SnakebitesandSambucas · 28/01/2025 13:07

I haven't had my mat b form yet! But did have my vaccines at the clinic the other day. Feel very rough today.

Jess2826 · 28/01/2025 16:56

I had my flu & covid vaccines done by one of the health care assistants around 11 weeks and my whooping cough done by the midwife at my 20 week scan, I also got my mat1b form while I was there.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 28/01/2025 18:02

I tried ringing my midwife today and went straight to voicemail, so left a message asking about the whooping cough vaccine.
I don't know why my GP have said I can't have it yet.

Beccaa123 · 29/01/2025 11:18

How is everyone feeling?
I'm 24 weeks today and it's definitely nice being able to feel our little girl move around now.
Although the last couple of days she hasn't been as active, I do have an anterior placenta and I know she still has room to move around without kicking me!

microwoods · 29/01/2025 11:30

@Beccaa123 I'm 25 weeks on Friday (also with an anterior placenta) and over the last couple of weeks I've started to feel the kicks in the center of my tummy, whereas for a while I'd only been able to feel him at the sides!

DH has been feeling him since about 21 weeks but with my daughter (who I didn't have an anterior placenta with!) he was only starting to feel kicks on the outside around now. I think this little boy is a bit more boisterous in there. I like the movements because it's reassuring but I find the sensation of it quite unpleasant.

I'm generally well, though I wish my bump would stop growing now. I was looking at photos the other day and I'm about the same size now that I was at 30 weeks last time, so sleep is a bit shit already.

Has anyone got any interesting symptoms? With DD I developed carpal tunnel (which didn't go until DD was around 3 months), started growing tiny extra moles, had sore ears and developed a lump on my gum in the week before she was born which disappeared within hours of birth! I'd never heard of any of those symptoms but I'm yet to have them with this pregnancy 😂

SnakebitesandSambucas · 29/01/2025 13:26

Symptoms wise my gums are bleeding more! And getting pain when trying to walk sometimes. Nighttime insomnia is the kicker!

Loute02 · 29/01/2025 15:55

26 weeks tomorrow 🥳 Even with an anterior placenta, I can feel our little boy kicking around (especially on the sides/top/bottom).
As with my previous pregnancy, I developed SVT with this one as well. Waiting to be seen by the cardiology department. I'm also very tired but I'm sure everyone else is 😆
Planning to take a couple of days off every month until due date to make it easier at work!

GraySweatpants · 29/01/2025 15:59

@microwoods I feel you with the bump growing! I’m 26W and look like 33W already - feeling like a whale is an understatement 😂

With DD, my left ear suddenly gone deaf at around 26W. I’m talking about just sitting on the sofa one day and poof I couldn’t hear anything. Doctors couldn’t explain why and it didn’t get better after a course of steroid injections. It slowly came back after birth but I couldn’t tell you if it has recovered fully or not.

LeBonBon · 29/01/2025 21:33

26 weeks today as well 🥰

Had a day of him being quieter than usual yesterday and this morning, so after my midwife appointment today I went to the assessment centre to be monitored for a little bit. My trust doesn't listen to heartbeats at midwife appointments any more so it was nice to hear him and he soon perked up with all the noise and fuss!

SnakebitesandSambucas · 29/01/2025 21:41

With my two kids they both had reduced movements in third trimester all the time! But I always went in no matter what didn't care if they thought I was overly anxious! Wasn't worth the risk!

Yep! I never went with my DD as she was consistently not a big mover, but this baby has been very active so I didn't hesitate. Better safe than sorry!

Loute02 · 31/01/2025 10:21

For all the mums in here on their 2nd+ baby, what did you buy for new baby? I'm having another boy and still have everything from my first one. I feel strangely calm and not in a panic about buying things. What did you buy already/need for a second child?

I'm also 26 weeks and just finished dragging everything down from the attic from my first born (20 months old!!).

I have only bought a couple of onesies that I thought were very cute/I couldn't resist. We're having a surprise again and most clothes are neutral/, blue but I did get a couple of dresses that I couldn't resist just in case!

Otherwise I still have the mosses basket, next2me (worried about the height of this with our new bed tbf) muslin cloths etc.

I have a sling that my first hated (hope the second one likes it!).

I plan to breastfeed this one too but I kept the pump from last time and actually should maybe get a couple of bottles just in case.

My first was taken to an incubator after he was born for 3 hours so I'll need to remember to express some colostrum, I might have some syringes but I'll have to check.

That's a REALLY LONG way of saying I think all I need to buy is nappies and cotton pads - I find wipes are too harsh on newborn skin.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 31/01/2025 11:27

@Loute02 We still have our egg pram and two pushchairs, planning on initially getting the egg pram cleaned, alongside the car seat that we used with our son.
Still have the moses basket, going to be buying a new bedside crib and a new cot as our original one a piece has broke off, still have the changing table and wardrobe.
Still have the clothes from us son, which have been arranged into age groups, have bought a few new things as we have waited a long time for this baby, a little boy 😊
Going to possibly buy a small changing unit for downstairs. Have been gifted a sling, but might also look at getting a baby carrier.
Have bought some cotton wool balls to use first and have seen pura wipes which are supposed to have no chemicals in them.
Still have a steriliser and breastpump, probably buy a few new bottles just incase as my son had reflux, lost some weight so had to top up, I'm hoping to breastfeed again, might buy a few premade bottles, such as Kendamil.
Some packs of nappies aswell, tried all the different ones and think ended up using aldis brand and pampers for night time.

WildWhirlwind · 31/01/2025 12:21

Hello @TheBeesKnee. Which Next2me do you have? Would you recommend it?

Hello @TheBeesKnee. Which Next2me do you have? Would you recommend it?

I have the next2me magic 2, it is good and I particularly like the fact that you can move the side up and down with one hand. I used it until he started sitting up by himself.

What I didn't realise is that the law had changed a few years ago and you can't buy new bedside cribs that are flush with your bed, there's always a dip or separation which is extremely annoying because it would be nice to slide the baby rather than lift, so if I was buying again I'd probably try to get a second hand old style one but this will be fine for now.

microwoods · 31/01/2025 14:33

@Loute02 I have completely failed to buy anything for this baby yet! My DD is 20 months and we kept everything from her but things on my list to buy for DS are:

  • changing table for our bedroom (never had one for DD and got fed up of hurting my back bending over to change her on the bed during the night time feeds!)
  • a carrier (never tried this with DD but hoping to avoid a double buggy)
  • a buggy board to attach to the pram (also in the hope of avoiding a double buggy)
  • a breastfeeding pillow (never had one with DD and didn't know how long I'd feed for so never bothered. Ended up feeding until a few months ago so want to start out with one this time!)
  • some new Sleepsuits, bibs, towels etc I have lots of neutral stuff left over from DD but would like to buy a few new bits!
Rainbowsunshine81 · 31/01/2025 14:36

Mamas and papas Lua bedside crib looks quite good and you don't have to attach it to your bed. I'm thinking of getting one.

BodeAkuna · 31/01/2025 17:22

I gave everything away last time! So we are getting donations of things back, but we do need to buy a new mattress. Bought some adorable newborn outfits for the hospital and first photos, but will try to get most of them secondhand.

Thinking of stuff for the birth- I suffered badly with trapped wind last time post c section so will get peppermint capsules and chewing gum for the hospital bag this time - all other tips are welcome!

I'd love to get our pram cleaned - where does it?

Rainbowsunshine81 · 31/01/2025 17:34

@BodeAkuna I too had terrible trapped wind after my c section and was given peppermint tea, I don't drink but I would have had anything! If I have a c section this time I'd get some peppermint capsules and gum or mints.
The pram parlour, ive seen for cleaning prams.
