@Twinkletwinklelil oh really? What did they say? It is mostly discharge looking. Creamy in texture and look, just alot of it. I don't feel like it's waters breaking but then I guess I wouldn't know... I've got my midwife on Thursday. X

@Lunamoon23 it wasn’t waters. They took some swabs and gave a pessary just in case its thrush.

they said any fluid I’m feeling I need to get checked in case it is waters - last time my waters popped and gushed! But they said because baby is engaged it can trickle slowly. Can be dangerous if it is waters and not picked up. Xx

Lunamoon23 · 10/11/2024 15:09

@Twinkletwinklelil I've just been on the nhs website and from what it says on there what I'm experiencing is very normal, Including the consistency and colour. I've had it all throughout pregnancy I've just noticed in the last week it's really ramped up. X

CatCaretaker · 10/11/2024 15:20

I'm 33 weeks tomorrow and no extra pelvic pressure, but have lightning crotch usually at least once a day, though I've been having that for weeks. She's always head down on scans, maybe that's why?

I've just packed baby's hospital bag today: I've packed ;

3x Newborn sleep suits
1x newborn size going home outfit
3x 0-3 months sleep suits
1x 0-3 months going home outfit
(Both going home outfits include nice thick knitted cardigans)
Blanket
Hat & mitts
Socks x3
Size 1 nappies (x8)
Size 0 nappies (pack)
Wet wipes
Cotton wool
Comforter
Pre made formula (just incase)
Muslims
Swaddle

Is that everything or am I forgetting something? I think I need to get some vests, do I? I've got some at home 0-3 months. But have no first size ones.

RedRobyn2021 · 10/11/2024 16:32

I just looked it up and it says that at 34 weeks baby is about the size of a cantaloupe melon (why always comparisons to fruits 😂?) and around 45cm... I can't believe she isn't bigger looking at the size of me, what the heck. I am literally worried at the thought of how much bigger I'm going to get, not from a vanity perspective but a comfort one. My belly button is flat at the moment

RedRobyn2021 · 10/11/2024 16:33

@Lunamoon23

The only thing I could think of is nappy bags, it looks like you've got everything they could need to me

MaybeBaby2024 · 10/11/2024 16:54

@RedRobyn2021 yes I have that problem when peeing too lol. I find I need to lean forward to get it going the right direction.

Also tmi I feel very swollen down there. It’s uncomfortable to sit on a hard chair for any length of time. Probably due to the pressure of the uterus.

Anyone have really itchy nipples? I’m not sure if there’s maybe colostrum leaking and it’s causing the irritation. But it’s really annoying!

RedRobyn2021 · 10/11/2024 17:41

@MaybeBaby2024

Yes mine are itchy and have been for a little while, I've not seen any colostrum but haven't been looking. I didn't leak with my daughter and I couldn't get the knack of hand expressing, but it was pouring out when she was born, so it must be there!

I put some nipple balm on the other day which helped a bit

Firsttimetrier · 10/11/2024 20:32

@Lunamoon23 would definitely recommend newborn and 0-3m vests, although you probably won’t need the latter.

Lunamoon23 · 10/11/2024 20:43

@RedRobyn2021 okay that's great! I've got some here so just thrown them in too!

@Firsttimetrier I've got the 0-3months ones. Need to get some newborn ones! Which I'll pick up at some point over the next couple of weeks! 🙂 x

RedRobyn2021 · 10/11/2024 20:51

@Lunamoon23

Don't you just love going through all the clothes? Can't believe how little they are when they're born

It's surreal looking at the clothes and imagine someone is actually going to wear them 😂

Lunamoon23 · 10/11/2024 20:52

@RedRobyn2021 some of the bits I got for him from H&M are so tiny, I almost can't believe they'd fit even a baby! It's adorable!! I can't wait to see him in the outfits we've got ❤️

I'm on a day off today, I might go mummy/baby hospital bag shopping 🤗

The housework can wait 🙃

Advice / reassurance please! A lovely lady at work has just given me a baby bouncer that she is finished with. However she absolutely would not let me carry if from the boot of her car to my car. I would (and do) without hesitation lift this kind of weight, and more, at home. Am I overdoing it, or is she being too cautious?

I test a weight and if I feel that I can comfortably carry it I just go for it. I read on some website (HSE or NHS, or somewhere reliable, I can't remember) that a weight is too heavy if you have to hold your breath to lift it. I've not carried anything close to that weight.

Paranoid now!

It’s your choice. Listen to your body, lift safely (tense core gently, lift with legs not back etc.) and do what you think you can do.

It’s all about context and what you know your body can do.
Some women will be lifting toddlers into cars, carrying shopping and managing all that kind of stuff alone, and doing it fine.
I’m going to the gym and lifting 30kgs in bump-safe exercises in squats, doing press ups against a bar, 7kg bicep curls etc. It’s all about your choices.
In a few weeks you’ll be lifting a baby of at least a few kgs in and out of stuff multiple times a day, so practice now is sensible, but equally don’t throw your back out just before they arrive!!
Maybe just let this lady carry the bouncer on one occasion, but that’s more about her than you, and don’t let it put you off doing what you judge safe to do!

I had a mum acquaintance give me a Moses basket the other week and she was exactly the same, walked all the way to the bottom of the street carrying it for me.

I think people are just being kind because you're pregnant.

I wouldn't say a bouncer is too heavy at all. Ive just carried the hoover up the stairs. I know people who still pick up their toddlers, who aren't exactly light (I know mine isn't)

If it hurts your bump, it's too heavy, that's my rule of thumb

I moved a wardrobe yesterday (not a great idea I know). You know your limits, she was just being kind ☺️ don't worry unless you have pain / bleeding etc. but you'll be fine

LilyJessie · 11/11/2024 11:57

Hello ladies!

I'm reading all your comments and I absolutely have a swollen vagina and find sitting on hard surfaces a pain, excess discharge (which makes me feel gross) and I have just bought a pregnancy support band (would recommend) for my waddle and back pain.

Such a magical time!!

Secondly, I was wondering... baby vests.
I got long sleeve as it's winter, but now I'm worrying she will be too hot.
What vests are best?
And I'm Uber paranoid about over heating. Packing the bag makes me realise how clueless I really am. I had to Google "purpose of a baby vest"! I'm a 33 year old woman for goodness sake 🤦🏼‍♀️

We have NCT in a couple of weeks so I'm hopeful that will help us a bit!

OnNaturesCourse · 11/11/2024 12:29

@LilyJessie depends on your house temperature or outside temperature if going out.

My house sits around 17 and is draughts galore so we tend to have baby in long sleeve vest and sleepsuit with blanket or sleepbag. When we go to my parents house they have it cooking at 20-22 degrees so baby is usually stripped down to sleeveless vest and sleepsuit with light blanket.

I was told baby needs one more layer than you are comfortable with as a general rule if that helps at all.

CatCaretaker · 11/11/2024 12:39

@Orelinde@RedRobyn2021 @HelterSkelter224 thanks.

All I'm worried about is effects on baby, I couldn't care less about me! As long as there is no risk to baby I'm happy.

@LilyJessie same, I have no clue what I'm doing. I'm hoping the midwives will show me how to dress her when we're in the hospital 😂.

OP posts:
CatCaretaker · 11/11/2024 12:41

@LilyJessie oh yes, we were told during antenatal classes that as a general rule, 4 layers for summer, 6 layers for winter. A vest is one layer, a blanket is another, a folded blanket is 2 layers, etc.

I wouldn’t worry! I’m still giving my 2 year old piggy backs (😂) and lifting him like normal etc.

I think people like to be overcautious with pregnant women but you know your own limits, so go with your instinct.

Firsttimetrier · 11/11/2024 15:39

@LilyJessie We were always told “one layer more than you are wearing” and found that very helpful. Another good tip is testing their temperature using your fingers at the back of their neck as you’ll feel if they are too hot or not.

I would get a mixture of short sleeve and long sleeve vests, tbh. I used to mainly put a short sleeve vest on if they are in a sleepsuit and cardigan inside, but would use a long sleeve when it was extra cold.
