Did you have to have something wrong to have an elcs? As I been told that you have to speak with a doctor and they wouldn't allow you unless there's significant reason?

If you have a medical reason for one it’s probably easier to be signed off, but it’s your right to have one if that is what you want. I think varies dr to dr and area to area as to how easily you get it all sorted. I’m epileptic and felt it would be safer. My midwife scoffed a bit, but as I was under consultant care I asked them ignoring MW and they sorted it immediately.

@Twinkletwinklelil @HelterSkelter224 yes I had a full birth plan written out last time and not one part of it was stuck to. Convinced they didn’t read it. It felt like Everything was on their terms, and for their convenience rather than what I wanted.

But yes one thing I will want to push for this time is not being on my back. And I don’t want an epidural either. Couldn’t feel what I was doing when pushing last time so probably wasn’t doing it very effectively, and then ended up needing forceps.

So sorry you went through that too.
just keep advocating for yourself and get your birth partner to be vocal too!

wishing you so much luck!! Xx

I have epilepsy too! So I can use that to push for one? As I'm also under consultant who I should see Thursday

Firsttimetrier · 14/11/2024 16:32

Sorry to hear others are experiencing insomnia but glad to hear it’s passing!

I am planning a VBAC and had an awful consultant appointment on Wednesday as she’s pushing me towards an induction or c-section at 38 weeks. I actually burst into tears when I left the room and was in the reception trying to book the next one, but had a lovely midwife who has now assigned me back to the previous consultant who was a lot more supportive.

My birth plan is a VBAC and no intervention until 40+5 and if I need intervention, I will have an induction but a method without hormones (so the rods or balloon). I haven’t planned further than that, but will ask for the standard immediate skin to skin, delayed cord clamping, being mobile as possible etc.

My friend is having an elective on Saturday with no medical reason, just that she wants one and doesn’t want to go through labour. It’s your body, your birth, your choice and they should respect and follow your decision.

No medical reason for me.
Mine was a maternal request. Never had any push back, met with consultant at 20 week scan, and again at 32 weeks when I signed the consent form. My trust has been fantastic and I've never once been made to feel I couldn't have it. But from a lot of stuff I've read on here that does vary hugely and some have to really fight for it. But ultimately if it is what you want it is ultimately YOUR right and decision. If one consultant doesn't agree, you can request to speak to one that will. X

No, no birth plan done. I ferl a bit silly doing it, ad it really isn't something you can reliably plan, right? If all goes well the things I want (other than a healthy baby) are things that the hospital seem to do by default anyway, like immediate skin to skin and breastfeeding support. Should I write those down?

Honestly I would be very explicit. I shockingly didn't get skin to skin until 4 hours after baby was born, they kept her for ages despite nothing being wrong then handed baby straight to dad and I guess we were both too shellshocked to challenge or to know what to do, I'm still angry about it now. Similarly the breastfeeding support was awful in general- breastfeeding failed for me for various reasons (one of them being lack of support) and I have decided that I will try this time but if I'm unable I will use formula and god help the midwife who tries to tell me otherwise.

You are absolutely right though it's not something you can reliably plan. Do have a think about your preferences but be prepared for it not to go 100% to plan, and prepare yourself to be ok with that. I guess birth plan is wrong (I think that's how it's described in the blue notes), I've seen it referred to as birth preferences.

Due 22nd Dec here!

Stubbornly breech baby from atleast 22weeks (now 34+4). Had a growth scan today which confirmed the breech position which head between ribs and placenta and bum right into pelvis… midwife also agreed unlikely to turn but always a possibility

Ive already decided I would decline ECV and opt for an elective c-section. Currently the plan is to reevaluate at the 36 week check but I’m now overthinking that my due date is so close to Christmas that all the c-section slots will be taken!

Would it be unreasonable to ask to bring forward next appointment to 35weeks and get the ball rolling for a c-section date now?

Have you been on the spinning babies website? There lots of ways on there to encourage baby to turn

There's also an episode on the birth Ed podcast episode 3 series 1 all about breech babies, really informative

RedRobyn2021 · 14/11/2024 20:34

@CatCaretaker

I hate doing the birth plan, forces me to think about scenarios that I don't want to happen.

However it's 1000% worth doing and making lots of copies. Most importantly make sure your birth partner knows what you want and are prepared to advocate for what you want because you might not always be in the right state of mind to make decisions.

Have you done any Hypnobirthing courses? If you do, it's worth your partner doing them with you.

The birth Ed one is really good, the positive birth company one is on £30 which is a bargain tbh

My baby is also breech, has been the whole duration of my pregnancy, I have my next scan at 36 weeks to confirm. However, they don't schedule c sections until two weeks before your 39th week regardless so bringing the appointment forward would do little in the way of changing it. Your c section will be between 39-40 weeks and they always allow for scenarios such as yourself when booking c sections. So I wouldn't worry too much xxxxx

CatCaretaker · 14/11/2024 21:41

@RedRobyn2021 yes I've done hypnobirth as part of antenatal classes with teh hospital (I'm in ROI). Partner aware of my preferences, but equally that healthy baby comes first before anything else.

PermanentlyTired03 · 15/11/2024 18:26

@NewJadeSeal if you need a c section they’ll squeeze you in. With my first they scheduled 3 ELCSs a day, I was last on the list and got bumped due to too many emergencies. Ended up having the CS on a Saturday!

Lunamoon23 · 16/11/2024 18:33

Gosh I've woken up today puffy! Swollen feet, feel all tight and burny. And my face has puffed up. 🙂 the joys of pregnancy! How's everyone feeling? X

LilyJessie · 16/11/2024 19:11

@Lunamoon23
Awwww bless you! How far along are you now?
I get puffy if I walk for a long-ish time at the moment. But I know I'll be waking up puffy soon!
I'm 35 weeks on Monday! Xx

Lunamoon23 · 16/11/2024 19:18

@LilyJessie I'm 36 weeks on Monday!
I think that's probably why I've swollen up, long week at work, on my feet most the day, quite a stressful one too.
Thankfully only a week and a half left at work now then I'm on maternity leave! I've done virtually nothing today bar hang some washing out and I'm sat with them elevated now! So nearly there!

LilyJessie · 16/11/2024 20:51

@Lunamoon23
Absolutely feet up and rest!
This week I treated myself to a pregnancy massage for 45 minutes (not a relaxing one, one to help the back and hips), and I had a luxury pedicure where they soak the feet and massage them etc.
I am very lucky to be able to do that I know.
But if you can/ have time too, I would recommend.
I'm sure you feel puffier than you look.
Although someone said to me today 'youre so big'... THANKS 🤣🤣
but I knew what they meant haha xx

OnNaturesCourse · 16/11/2024 21:07

I've been waking up like that on and off for a few weeks, find it's worse if I've been too warm through the night so the big covers are off!

Has anyone had a increase in milky discharge? I'm beginning to wonder if that's all I have or if I have a leak!

vanillaiceice · 16/11/2024 21:11

Hi ladies
its My 4th pregnancy and almost 37 weeks.
I had a low lying placenta and at my scan couple weeks ago to check placenta if it moved higher they said baby is measuring on the 99th centile.
so they sent me for another glucose test which came back positive for gestational diabetes and now I’m on metformin.
due to the size they wanted to induce this week when I’m 37 weeks but I declined and asked for a sweep first to see if it will help bring on labour naturally.
it’s my first time having a sweep and wondering if anyone here has had one before and how successful it is by starting labour.
would love to hear
thanks in advance xx

HelterSkelter224 · 16/11/2024 21:29

@LilyJessie I have literally just been googling spas near me, I feel like I need to pamper myself a wee bit before baby as I'll never get the chance again 😂 bloody love a wee treatment

@OnNaturesCourse yes! This week has been crazy for discharge, I was wondering the same!

@vanillaiceice I had 2 sweeps with my last and I'm sorry to say they didn't work for me but they did work for a few of the girls in my antenatal group so worth a try! They're a wee bit uncomfortable but not painful or anything.

Layla8926 · 16/11/2024 21:49

Hi everyone! My friend has recommended this forum as she joined one for her October baby 3 years ago and made a WhatsApp group with other moms due babies similar time and they still speak to this day about everything baby related! I’m due 26th December, if anyone due similar time would like to go in a WhatsApp group please let me know! X

HelterSkelter224 · 16/11/2024 22:36

Girls a bit worried about something- what are your thoughts / experiences? My baby has hiccups every single night, like clockwork about 10pm, sometimes twice a day. I had been ignoring them thinking perfectly normal but happened to google yesterday (I know) and it turns out regular hiccups after 28w (I'm 35w) are unusual and can be due to umbilical cord compression (according to Google!!) there's nothing on the nhs site to suggest that but it's on a number of different sites.

Have any of you heard that / experienced that?? In a wee bit of a panic and don't want to call triage for nothing

OnNaturesCourse · 16/11/2024 22:55

@HelterSkelter224 can you phone your midwife unit to just ask? They can advise over the phone, and get you in if necessary. I haven't heard anything negative about hiccups right enough, and none of my midwifes have mentioned them.

HelterSkelter224 · 16/11/2024 22:58

@OnNaturesCourse yea I will ring on Monday (they're only reachable mon-fri), I really don't want to go to triage like an idiot over nothing but I've sent myself on a spiral yesterday and today over it. I'd never heard anything either. Bloody google!

OnNaturesCourse · 16/11/2024 23:18

Your local hospital should have a oncall triage team that can advise in the mean time.
