Pregnant mums I need help

Hi mums I need some help/ advice

So I'm 24+3 weeks and I'm FTM and I'm only feeling what I think is movements every so often and not constantly like other mums . I want to get another ultrasound so I can see with my own eyes that baby is moving and everything is fine however no one will listen to me medical wise .. I cannot afford private so that's not an option .

No one will listen to me and ease my anxiety . I've even ended up with panic attacks over worry

How do you guys get people to listen to you ??? Or what do you say for people to actually give scan .

Please if anyone sees this please let me know .
Anxious first time mum over here

Speak to your midwife about support for your anxiety - that they will be able to help you with. Listen to their advice regarding movements. If they don't think you need another scan, you don't need one. Surely you understand the NHS can't just provide one for anyone who wants one at any time point?

I don't just want one tho, I want one because I am concerned . Some days no movement at all . I spoke to my midwife but she wasn't helpful the reason I'm asking on here

I think if it was a massive concern they would get you in for a scan?

Midwife says they won't give me a scan if I feel something but the thing is some days no movement at all .

If you have a look online it says it isn't usually a cause for concern, as sometimes there's movements you cannot feel. If it was massively worrying then they would get you in for a scan but as your feeling movements still then I think that's why they aren't concerned. But equally, stressing and anxiety isn't the best on your baby so maybe speak to a midwife about that

I very rarely felt movement with my son, he was born perfectly healthy. I think modern pregnancy is so medicalised it can be difficult to relax. If the medical professionals aren't concerned then I wouldn't seek out more medical attention I would try and find something fun or rewarding to do.

I guess I just thought medical staff should listen to you when you have concerns . Only you know your baby best .

Do you know where your placenta is? If you have an anterior placenta it may explain why you’re not feeling much and if it says this on your notes the medical professionals might think it goes towards explaining it. I barely felt a thing with my first. I know it’s an anxious time but I’m sure they would scan you if they felt the need.

I know it’s hard, I’ve had a lot of losses for all types of reasons and don’t get any extra scans when pregnant unless there’s a medical need for it. They might put you on a heart/movement monitor if you report reduced movements later in the pregnancy.

I have posterior placenta. This is another reason I'm stressed I'm supposed to feel it earlier .

Is it that they didn't listen or that you don't like their conclusions?

Mum2025 · 18/10/2024 12:45

@NewtonsCradle they didn't listen . I got told if you have concerns you can talk anytime but they didn't help at all

@NewtonsCradle your comment came across a little rude although I'm sure you didn't intend that way

Your baby only weighs just over a pound.

It's only 12 inches from head to toe.

They don't move constantly anyway.

You're imagining a large baby inside you because your bump is relatively big, but the actual baby is tiny.

It wasn't rude, it was a genuine question.

TheShellBeach · 18/10/2024 12:52

Or what do you say for people to actually give scan

They won't scan you for nothing, OP.

It's a waste of resources because it absolutely isn't necessary.

Mum2025 · 18/10/2024 12:53

I wrote they don't listen because they don't listen. It's okay your comment was easy to take wrong way . No hard feelings

Whilst it’s absolutely true about you knowing your baby best when they’re actually earthside, I think the midwives and doctors know pregnancy and foetal physiology the best in general.

If you read my post the scan is because I have no movement some times . How dare you say it's for nothing

Well yes, that's the whole point.

OP isn't keen on the reassurance she's been given.

But there is literally no reason for her to need an ultrasound.

Pregnancy is ridiculously medicalised nowadays.

Mum2025 · 18/10/2024 12:55

@WhoOfWhoville I guess I'm just confused why they don't scan if there's no movement .

It is for nothing, because you do feel movement sometimes.
Babies do sleep in the uterus, you know. They don't dance around and kick all day long.

There is movement though.
It's just not the movement you think it should be.

readyforroundthree · 18/10/2024 12:57

I know anxiety around movement is horrible, Op, but at this stage your baby is still small enough that it's probably changing positions and is kicking you but towards your back so you can't feel anything. I went in for reduced movement at 29 weeks and even at that gestation they said they can still move themselves around so the kicks are masked. Sometimes if I sit really still I can actually see her moving around but I can't even feel it and I'm almost 31 weeks and it's my third baby.

Mum2025 · 18/10/2024 12:59

@TheShellBeach I NEED A SCAN BECAUSE NO MOVEMENT . Please I've put this in comments
