Pregnant mums I need help

Hi mums I need some help/ advice

So I'm 24+3 weeks and I'm FTM and I'm only feeling what I think is movements every so often and not constantly like other mums . I want to get another ultrasound so I can see with my own eyes that baby is moving and everything is fine however no one will listen to me medical wise .. I cannot afford private so that's not an option .

No one will listen to me and ease my anxiety . I've even ended up with panic attacks over worry

How do you guys get people to listen to you ??? Or what do you say for people to actually give scan .

Please if anyone sees this please let me know .
Anxious first time mum over here

Guys sorry if my post is confusing you all I have adhd and I'm not the best at typing things . So as mentioned In op my movements are not all the time but I still feel sometimes however the last time I felt movement was 3 days ago . I'm sure 3 days is normal. Again apologised I add that late .

Hi! They don’t scan for reduced movements. If you go in for reduced movements (I did a couple of times), they hook you up to monitor the heartbeat. They ask you to press a button when you feel the movement. Seems my baby was moving about but I couldn’t feel it everytime.

I had extra scans for other reasons, but not for reduced movements, they have other, better ways to monitor for reduced movements.

Thankyou so much

But that's different from your OP where you say you feel some movement.

You're changing the narrative because you don't like the answers you're getting. I'm sorry you're so anxious but a scan is the last thing you need.

LozC0411 · 18/10/2024 13:11

You have not once stated that there was no movement for 3 days until people started saying that no movement for a day is normal, with the level of anxiety you have I dont get why you happened to forget its now been 3 days?

I didn't forget I literally said I don't feel all the time

@Mum2025 personally I would call the assessment unit, say you haven't felt movement in 3 days and you are really getting into a panic about it. They should let you go in and at least it will put your mind at rest.

Thankyou

You've said you've had some movement. Babies don't do a pattern till 28 weeks.

Thanks

No your OP never stated 3 days, it is NORMAL to not feel movement all the time hence why midwives are not taking it seriously. As I said, the level of anxiety is going to do you no good so maybe speak to someone about that instead

Mum2025 · 18/10/2024 13:18

So I'm 24+3 weeks and I'm FTM and I'm only feeling what I think is movements every so often and not constantly like other mums

That's from your OP.

Now you're changing it to "no movements for three days".

Which is it?

In any case, listening with the doppler would be the thing to do, not an ultrasound.

How do you know that other mums have constant movements anyway? You're just imagining that.

Babies don't move constantly. They sleep a lot.

I do have pregnant friends as well . Also please don't be rude in your comments. I do actually have a disability as well and you are leaving me stressed . I didn't think I'd have to mention how many days when I mentioned I don't feel all the time

A scan isn't what you need. You are over 20 weeks so I'd give maternity triage a call at the hospital and tell them you're really anxious and haven't felt baby for 3 days. They can do a CTG which measures babies heart rate and movement, and if baby does move if you felt it. You may find baby is moving lots but you can't feel.

I also think part of it is how early you are. This is going to come across awfully but if there was a problem, you're only 24 weeks. There's vanishingly little they can do. I was in hospital regularly for bleeds at 20-28 weeks and for at least the first half they were very clear I was there so they could save me if I had a really big bleed. There wasn't anything that could be done for the baby.

Thankyou for your help

Speak to your midwife about support for your anxiety - that they will be able to help you with. Listen to their advice regarding movements. If they don't think you need another scan, you don't need one. Surely you understand the NHS can't just provide one for anyone who wants one at any time point?

In Oxford they basically do after 18 weeks. If you are at all concerned about reduced movements they will very happily run tests.

TheShellBeach · 18/10/2024 13:21

Don't be silly. That's exactly the question you'll be asked in hospital, if you do go in with reduced movements.

And someone like you, with extreme anxiety, would have stated clearly in her OP exactly what was happening.

I dont think this is fair at all... She is telling you exactly how it is and has actually even taught me things like how big and heavy a baby is at that point. I just dont think you like the advice given, but you posted it on MN for peoples advice.

As others have said they won’t scan for reduced movements. Depending on gestation they’ll either send you to your midwife to check the heartbeat with a doppler or send you to MAU for a CTG. At this stage it’s absolutely normal to have irregular movements but if it’s genuinely been 3 days with no movements at all I’d call medicom and get their advice/get it checked.

The one thing I will say, and I absolutely don’t say this to dissuade anyone genuinely concerned about reduced movements as these should never be ignored and should always be checked out, but I’d be cautious of letting your anxiety guide you too much in seeking reassurance if your movements are just irregular at this stage. I had horrendous anxiety in my first pregnancy and regularly went in for reduced movement. I can count on less than one hand the amount of times DD didn’t start her own personal internal disco the moment I set foot in the hospital. The number of incidences of reduced movement was later used as a justification for the hospital pushing me into an induction that I ultimately didn’t need, but as a horrifically anxious FTM was too afraid to say no to.

@LozC0411 I know what they will ask at the hospital but this is Mumsnet . I didn't think I'd have to share my private patient info to stop people from leaving rude comments . I did not want to disclose how many days it's been and now I'm left feeling upset

Saying its been 3 days isn't really private patient info? It's us wanting to know so we can help, which im assuming is why you posted this

I am so sorry if you felt bullied.

SurpriseTwinPregnancy · 18/10/2024 13:31

@Mum2025 the 3 day thing is very relevant because if it really has been 3 days and the midwives/hospital are refusing to see you (for monitoring/doppler, not a scan) then that would be wrong and we would support you to advocate to be seen.

Have you told them it’s been three days since you felt the baby?

IMBCRound2 · 18/10/2024 13:31

Mum2025 · 18/10/2024 13:09

They listened to dopperly struggled to find Heartbeat . I specified I don't feel movement all the time but people where confused but I added to mention 3 day now

Do you carry a lot of weight around your middle? This can make it harder for a Doppler to pick up and apparently can make movements less obvious.

Im only 18 weeks but my midwife kindly listened to my baby’s heartbeat today after reduced movements following a serious illness- baby was actively kicking and you could hear them kicking at the Doppler but I couldn’t feel a thing- apparently baby had rolled closer to the placenta and was kicking the placenta as opposed to other parts so I went from regular movements to nothing…

Obviously listen to your body and baby - but as others have said, they will listen to the heartbeat and not offer a scan.
