Hi mums I need some help/ advice

So I'm 24+3 weeks and I'm FTM and I'm only feeling what I think is movements every so often and not constantly like other mums . I want to get another ultrasound so I can see with my own eyes that baby is moving and everything is fine however no one will listen to me medical wise .. I cannot afford private so that's not an option .

No one will listen to me and ease my anxiety . I've even ended up with panic attacks over worry

How do you guys get people to listen to you ??? Or what do you say for people to actually give scan .

Please if anyone sees this please let me know .
Anxious first time mum over here

Have you not read my comment where I have a disability as well

So have I. I'm autistic.

@WhoOfWhoville I guess I'm just confused why they don't scan if there's no movement .

I’m confused though. You said there is sometimes movement…..

Sounds like you want this scan for reassurance which is understandable. However. medial intervention isn’t for reassurance and medical professionals don’t seem to think you need one so maybe they know what they are taking about?

However, if there is occasional movement then I’m sure it’s fine If I didn’t feel movement I was told by my midwife to lay quietly on my left side and wait and see. I also found when I drank fizzy drinks the baby would do a little dance!

I know you need reassurance and it’s hard but it doesn’t sound like you need another scan. Try to be calm (as that’s also good for the baby) and book an appointment with your midwife.

If it’s been three days with no movement that’s a bit different to irregular movement/not feeling baby every day. Have you called your maternity unit to see what they say?

But don’t be tempted to exaggerate or lie about reduced movements to suit your anxiety as pp said because they might end up inducing you early which could be a labour experience you don’t want and not ideal for the baby either.

https://www.thebump.com/a/how-to-do-kick-counts#3

This website recommends you don't try to count baby kicks until 28 weeks as they aren't regular enough.

A couple of my friends and went to have scans because they were worried about lack of movement and everything was completely fine. Of course that's not always the case but when the fetus is so small it can be easy to miss movements.

It's such a terrifying responsibility, especially if you're anxious. Don't blame yourself for how you feel.

CheekySwan · 18/10/2024 13:39

Might be facing backwards so you would feel less movements that way, if you are that concerned keep phoning her or try another MW

TheShellBeach · 18/10/2024 13:40

Because that isn't the right response, obstetrically speaking.

Listening in to the baby's heartbeat with a doppler would be what a midwife would do.

And OP I really am sorry if you thought I was bullying you. It wasn't my intention at all.

@LozC0411 I only say this because she's bullying me and I am a disabled adult so sorry if I'm not perfect by my post

I think you need to take a step back. You went onto Mumsnet to ask for help/suggestions.

When people didn’t agree with you, you changed your post from sometimes to three days, you then said you have a disability and this was stressing you out and then accused a perfectly reasonable questioner for bullying (which it isn’t by the way!).

Babies move all the time and we don’t realise it because we aren’t focused on it 24/7.

All of this is making a simple question stressful to you. Many moms have said they didn’t feel movement until much later including your midwife. You are worried and potentially creating a problem that isn’t there because you don’t like the answers. Spend energy on resting and taking time to relax and see what comes.

Worded perfectly, no one here is bullying you or trying to stress you out any more than you already are. Were just being honest and giving constructive advice

Phone your maternity assessment unit. I have had reduced movements and went in last night and the midwife said after 28 weeks they’ll do growth scans but before you are just hooked up to the machine and the baby’s heart is monitored. My baby is currently tucked very low down and I can barely feel her - she’s normally having a rave in there. They said they see some women every day for monitoring and would rather you go in than not. Phone the hospital and stop asking your midwife - they’ll help you.

bugaboofan · 18/10/2024 16:53

On your pregnancy notes booklet/pack, is there a number for the 'antenatal day unit'? Give them a ring and explain about reduced movements and they'll probably get you in and do a CTG (baby's heart rate trace). I had to visit mine a lot and they were always extremely helpful and reassuring.

cherrybl0ssom5 · 18/10/2024 19:05

hey @Mum2025 , I’m also 24 weeks, baby’s still pretty small and has a lot of space so movements won’t always be felt consistently at this point — they also sleep a lot. as others have mentioned you won’t get a scan for this anyway & I know it’s easier said than done but it isn’t recommended to kick count for until 28 weeks+

I see you’ve said you haven’t felt baby move in 3 days, I know that can be scary, I’d recommend giving your hospital’s maternity triage a call and explain this to them, see what they say! In the meantime if you haven’t already you could try things like drinking very cold water/orange juice and/or eating something sweet to try get baby moving. I’ve also noticed I don’t feel baby when up and about/at work

It would be nice if we could have more scans but the NHS can’t offer that unfortunately. I know you said you can’t afford private scans, but it’s worth a research — where I live the early scans are significantly more expensive than when further along in the pregnancy. maybe you could save up for one in a month or two?

cannynotsay · 18/10/2024 19:49

If you feel no movement just go in and get checked. Don't listen to everyone telling you what not. You know your own body. Just call the maternity unit x
