Hi pwcbird, not been to the docs yet, I only got a positive test today, will do a second test tomorrow and hopefully go to docs this week. It was and still is a total shock, I thought I was menopausal but did have my suspicions I was pregnant for several weeks. I have 3 other DD's, they are 23,20 and 12, so yes a big gap, but also a big gap between DD2 and 3 (different DH). I have lots of questions to ask because I feel so different this time compared to last pregnancy, some of my Q's? are a bit personal so not sure I can ask them in here. Maybe I will when I gain confidence.

jules43 · 26/05/2008 16:46

Hi All

I had my Nuch fold scan at my local hospital and had to pay £150 for the pleasure, however mine came back at 1 in 37, so I faced the dilema of CVS v amniosentisis. After much looking up on the internet incl MN I read up on the FMC in London, and Prof Niicolades. I had an amniosentisis there in Jan08 and it took a huge weight off my mind, him and his staff were great ( although yes he is a bit mad). All the results came back clear and the clinic called me the nexr evening with the results!Worth every penny.

I am now 36.5 weeks and counting down, great tips on the hospital bag contents, I need about 4 bags at this rate, as mine is due next month and it may be hot I will take a water spray too cool down, and I was recommended if your baby is due during the summer tell your birth partner to wear cool clothing shorts & t shirt...especially as the hospitals are like sauna's at the best of times!

jeanjeannie · 26/05/2008 17:54

simck..WELCOME to our happy and very positive little thread! You are most welcome - and I reckon it won't belong before you're happily asking questions of a personal nature.....we're all very familiar, even though we've not really a clue who each other are

Not sure that you are the oldest....think if memory (what's that!) serves me well ...someone here is 49!

I'm 42.....would cut and paste it onto the list- but DD1 is hovering and it'll all go wrong!

jules43 LOVE the spray idea....even though I'm having a c-sec I'd forgotten just how hot it gets. OOoooo you've not got long to go - do you know what 'flavour' you're having?

I'm feeling very lethargic and bless DP - he's doing a stirling job of being 'man-about-the-house'....I can smell a great spaghetti bolagnase as I type..MMmmmm

pwcbird · 26/05/2008 19:12

I agree with jeanjeannie that's what's great about mumsnet - we can ask away and there's always someone who's got some experience of what you want to know.

Went out for lunch today and ate so much food I've just had to lie on the sofa all afternoon. I don't know what's wrong with me - with DS I never felt so greedy but I'm really hungry at the mo and to be honest I'm plumpy enough without gorging more. Doesn't help with this grotty weather (any excuse )

Oh if only DH could cook a spag-bol (though not now of course as still overwhelmed from lunch). I'm going to have to get teaching before this baby comes....

msdynamo · 26/05/2008 19:12

Hi simck and welcome, congratulations on your wonderful news. What an amazing surprise. you are def not the oldest on here, but once we're past 40 who's counting, we're all undeniably drop dead gorgeous on this thread .

When are you going to have a dating scan?

It's funny, I thought I was becoming menopausal a few months back, my periods were all over the place. My pg was a very welcome surprise.

jules43 hello, and congrats too. Good luck with your impending delivery!

Simck forgot to say that I was actually having tests for early menopause...when actually I was preggie! Even ran the Reading Half Marathon not realising I was up-the-duff I do remember thinking I needed to stop for lots of loo breaks!

pwcbird..OOOooo the spag-bol was good to be honest it was just nice not having to cook. I find upping the moaning works a treat Oh and hey - don't know if I should be telling you all this but.....my DP has now put the kettle on to make me tea....that's to go with my cream cake he bought me today - I'm so spoilt.....*oh I think I love him SWOON!

We ARE all drop dead gorgeous on this thread...msdynamo is correct. Think Sex in the City Girls....with brains.....and big knickers

ohjoy · 27/05/2008 07:57

hi all, is it ok to dye my hair when pregnant? i have heard that it might be better to wait till after 12weeks? is this true? thanks!

msdynamo · 27/05/2008 08:16

Yes, better to wait. I have my whites showing- so undignified! Highlights are Ok as they use tin foil and the chemicals don't sit on the scalp.

msdynamo · 27/05/2008 08:23

pcwbird I too am eating lots more than I used to. I feel hungry quite frequently. I'm monitoring my weight as I don't want to end up like an elephant. but every time I consider eating less, I suddenly feel ravenous and reach for something high in fat. Also been eating a lot more sugary things than I used to.

Off to work now, groan

pwcbird · 27/05/2008 08:37

Yes mysdynamo.. I've had craving for Coca-cola - something I never drink normally. Until I got pregnant I actually can't remember the last time I had any but now I really want it - I can only think it must be the sugar.

If I can just be a houswife for a second - bank holidays and 3 days of DH at home and my house is a MESS. I don't understand how they make so much... ..

NoNickname · 27/05/2008 10:29

Hello - can I join you?

I'm 41, and have just found out I am pg with dc2. We've been trying on and off for 2.6 years, after a miscarriage. I have a ds who is 4.

jeanjeannie · 27/05/2008 12:02

Greetings nonickname...of course you can join in - the more the merrier...and HUGE congrats on dc2

pwcbird you be that housewife....cos I know what you mean. I've got boxes that dds stuff goes in and out of just to keep the place tidy(ish) but DP seems totally unaware of their existance! Looked like we'd been burgled by the time DD went to bed last night! And DP bought himself DD a Tickle-me-Elmo....it's driving me MAD!

msdynamo I know that sweet drink thing...what's that about? For me it's been Sprite...can't get enough of the stuff. Oh, and carbs....blinkin pasta...I could (and almost do) live off the stuff. No wonder my thighs are competing with my tummy

jeanjeannie · 27/05/2008 14:03

PS - As I was induced with DD1 at 34 weeks I've no idea of what the start of actual labour feels like.........although if it feels like period pains, strong tightenings and nausea...then this may be it........ekkkk!!!!!
*don't panic Mr Mainwairing...don't panic!

pwcbird · 27/05/2008 14:15

OMG - relax jeanjeannie ... breathe....

I have to say I had pains off and on for about 2 weeks before I went into labour so don't fret too much just yet. They start as period pains but the pain goes all around - think of the worst period pains in the history of the world - then imagine a sledghammer being punched into you every few mintues - that's labour (sorry folks who haven't experienced it, was that TMI?) .

Seriously though jeanjeannie it's probably just the baby making its way down and getting ready. Go lie on the sofa. I remember my midwife telling me to take some paracetamol - yeah really - 2 paracetamol's gonna stop labour pains .

keep us informed....

jeanjeannie · 27/05/2008 14:19

Cheers pwcBird just taken a paracetamol and having a hot, sweet tea....seems the thing to do in a crisis PMSL at your labour description.....ta.....it's kind of what I thought................

Sure it's just baby getting on with it....but it MUST wait till Friday.....it's supposed to be coming through the sun-roof! x

babycakes26 · 27/05/2008 14:43

ok big deep breath....

We lost our baby on Sunday

A horrendous week last week following on from the 20 week scan which picked up major brain and heart problems. Our beautiful little boy Zac was however born at 12.40pm on 25th May sadly dying shortly after taking his first breath.

We are devastated but will be strong. I have never had a more beautiful experience than my little one's labour and birth. We are forever etched with sadness about the life he would have had with us but the impression he made on our hearts will last forever.

Being a mummy was the best time of my life and I hope to have the chance to feel this happiness again very soon. Rest in peace my angel XX

I wish all of you the best of luck with your pregnancies - birth (for those of you who haven't yet experienced it) is amazing - relax, enjoy and push! Don't worry your body will do the work - trust in your strength.

I will check up on how you are doing from time to time once we have mourned our loss. Remember you may be forty but you are fabulous strong and gorgeous women - much love Babycakes xxx

Please could you take me off the list when you get chance - hope to be back here in time....

pwcbird · 27/05/2008 14:58

oh babycakes26 I don't know what to say. I'm so so so sorry and is utterly heartrending to read your news. I am in tears as I write. I want to put my arms around you at this awful time. I send you and your DP hugs and warmth. Zac will always be in your heart. It's times like this we realise what is so precious. Take your time to mourn him and look after yourselves. xxxx

jeanjeannie · 27/05/2008 15:03

Oh my dear babycakes and family...I'm crying reading this. Bless you - and lovely Zac. I had wondered where you were

I'm amazed at your courage in telling us this in such a beautiful way and for finding the strength to be positive. I have no words that could be of any real help - just to say thoughts and love go out to you.

Take care and please do remember that when you check back in with us....we'll be here.

Love and hugs JJxxx

pwcbird · 28/05/2008 09:07

Morning ladies. I expect we're all feeling a bit quiet after Babycakes26's terrible news. I just couldn't stop thinking about it all yesterday. Life sure is rotten hard sometimes

Jeanjeannie how are you today? Are you in labour?

I'm just getting things ready for our hols on Friday - feeling fat after looking at all my clothes. Maternity clothes too big and make me look like a house and normal clothes are tight. Also checked weather forecast in Spain and IT'S RAINING

Did you all stop taking your folic acid at 12 weeks? I'm 13+3 and still taking it out of habit but I don't think you have to now do you? You wouldn't think I had a baby less than 2 years ago - I seem to have forgotten everything

msdynamo · 28/05/2008 09:24

Hi pwcbird, yes I'm feeling quiet after yesterday's news. Couldn't post a suitable response. Felt very sad. So sorry babybakes

In response to our query you should keep taking the folic acid, apparently it's needed in third trimester.

Don't worry about the rain in Spain, it's sure to clear up. Where abouts are you going? I'm half Spanish by the way!

Minniethemoocher · 28/05/2008 10:22

babycakes I am so very sorry to read your sad news, how devasting for you to lose your precious baby, I can't imagine the pain that you must be feeling at the moment, but I hope it helps to know that we are all thinking of you and are here if you want to talk.
