disneystar it's the bane of big boobs in blistering heat

Am looking forward to Cornwall. Not been since I was 14. Think it will be kinda different holiday this time around - out till all hours, chasing men....and you should have seen me when I was younger too! j/k.

Just looking forward to a change of scene and getting out of my little office; basically to do bugger all. Like you ladies, this will be our last holiday as just the 3 of us. Next time will be 4 Can't make any arrangements for summer holidays as I really have no idea when this LO is going to be born. I must say you're very brave flying with a LO.

Am I right in thinking that 28 weeks is limit on flying?

msdynamo · 13/05/2008 09:31

I love Cornwall too, especially Bude and the surrounding areas. Even in the height of summer, there are stunning hidden beaches that are empty as far as the eye can see. A great choice for a holiday, I hope you both enjoy it. I understand the last two months are a no no for flying. And I cancelled a holiday to Miami when I discovered I was up the duff, hence my recent sojourn to Somerset instead, but hey, with this weather who's complaining! I plan to go to California in July, during month 4-5, so hopefully that will be OK apparently.

By the way, my small pinky and perkies are still pert. Is it a done deal that I'll end up with spaniels' ears after breastfeeding? Please say no, they're my best feature (the rest has gone to pot).

disneystar · 13/05/2008 09:34

yes 28 weeks i have flown before at 30 weeks with a docs note came back at 32 weeks
i guess the insulin part in the letter didnt help me much
i have always flown with the boys i always find the younger the better
this little one either going to be alfie or samuel will be approx 3 mths old
get a bulkhead seat skycot i feed him no problems,i do not like flying with toddlers as we always have to fly to USA the flight is just toooo long they hate it
i only came back in feb this year but gettin a bit homesick i guess now
when we travel we a party of 6 well nearly 7 so its a bit like home alone count the heads of the plane and into the car when my other children join us we are a party of 9
trust me to have 7 children though glutton for punishment

disneystar · 13/05/2008 09:38

lol @ spaniels ears mine are 36G i hate it
as my milk is gettin ready when i have a vest top on i look like one of those serving wenches in a carry on film DH has a right laugh
we went to mcdonalds drive thro lasr weekend and my DH has a speech problem and was driving at the time so i had to lean over and give the order poor guy didnt know where to look he messed the order up to was only about 17

Kaz1967 · 13/05/2008 09:46

Sorry msdynamo it's pregnancy that buggers your boobs not breastfeeding so if they are going to go saggy they will.

johnworf · 13/05/2008 10:21

laughing @ disneystar and the poor MacD's guy Plans strategic bust overflowing sessions to get everything done around the house by DH. Cunning plan Baldrick

My boobs are pretty stretched from the other pregnancies but I'm not really bothered. If you get them up into a good fitting bra no one is any the wiser.

I take it you're american then disneystar? You're a long way from home if you are! Great, cheap hols to be had though.

OOOOh California sounds lovely. Only been as far as Las Vegas (and won't be returning either). Hubby would love to go to LV but I had enough the first/last time around. He likes poker and I've said he can go there on his own and I'll have 2 weeks somewhere nice sans kids when he gets back Oh, deep joy!!!

jeanjeannie · 13/05/2008 10:36

Oh I'm soooo jealous at the thought of a holiday And Miami...I love Miami...reminds me of my past and, occassionally glamourous life, - living it large in South Beach....Ahhhhhh sighs. I had great boobs then too. Oh dear - the thought of me in a bikini now...tourists run away in fright.

I've been at it with the sudocred under the boobs too....and (turn away now if TMI) in between top of legs. My thighs have ballooned...can't be to do with the copious amounts of cake....surely not?

disneystar...NINE of you..? Nine! WOW! Now that's a tour party in itself. Oh for a caravan in Cornwall too.

pwcbird try not to worry too much about the CVS. I had one this time round and I was so surprised at the speed and simplicity of it. Sorry to hear it's stressed your mum out.

Mums are odd creatures...think i'll probably end up odd!! My mum is old and VERY laid back...but MIL is young and very feisty and capable...although she means well, it's almost like you can't do anything yourself without her knowing best or having input. Dreading breastfeeding this time...as it's her pet project and last time due to dd being so early and tube fed for a week it didn't go well....and it was apparently my 'lack of confidence'! I'm having bottles at the ready this time round and not suffering weeks of guilt!!

Yes - i'll join in the heat moan - although cooler today and dd seems much happier. Am getting very intense Braxton Hicks...didn't have them with dd, whoah, they're weird

johnworf · 14/05/2008 06:19

ooh jeanjeannie Braxton Hicks huh? Not long now then for you?

Sorry to see that other ladies in here are having trouble under the boob area. I'm starting to resemble a dog with fleas scratching mine

Not sure I could cope with my mother giving me a hand with BF. I'd rather retreat to a quiet room alone and do it there. Just tell her to 'SCRAM'! It works for mine

pwcbird · 14/05/2008 08:10

johnworf what time do you get up?? Saying that, I'm up by 7 but have to be housewife: milk to ds, coffee to dh, making sandwiches also for dh (yes it appears I have two children to look after in the morning!!) whilst still haveing to much gingernuts to stop the nausea. Will be 12 weeks this weekend so hoping it will pass soon.

I've not had to do the sudocrem yet but thinking will take monster pot on holiday as it's bound to be scorchio in the old Costa so will probably itch and sweat simultaneously. Attractive

Flying EasyJet this time - haven't flown them for years since dh and I went to Barcelona for a dirty weekend in the heady days before weddings and chiildbirth. Anyone done them with children? Slightly worried about the stampede for seats....

jeanjeannie · 14/05/2008 08:28

hahahaha johnworf lol@a scratching like a dog with fleas. Just had my breaky and all through it I realised I'd been scratching away at my cleavage while DP looked on rather baffled!

Baby NOT allowed to arrived before 30th May...even with Braxton Hicks...baby MUST stay in...kitchen not finished yet

pwcbird you're on the home stretch for the sickness....but don't like the sound of your morning routine...WAY too much work

Do EasyJet take children....hahahah??!

Off with friends to the new YO Sushi this lunchtime - get out while I have the chance....I suppose raw fish is out of the question in my state..pah

johnworf · 14/05/2008 09:58

lol@getting up time. Well...it goes something like this of late:

LO starts kicking me around 5.30am. Wake up and contemplate getting out of bed and decide not to. Just as that thought leaves my head, I hear mad spaniel downstairs start to scratch the kitchen door to go out (he's psychic or psycho or both). Decide easier to get up, feed him, dress, do the medicine stuff, eat, put on washing, feed DSS and get toe up his backside to get ready for school, start work - which is when I'll probably log on to Mumsnet. Hence why my time stamp appears to be an ungodly hour!

I said to DH this morning - he still being in bed at 8.20am - I think this is the shape of things to come with LO getting me up so early??!

Easyjet . Think cattle class and £5.00 for a sandwich. OOh and I don't think they do much with cabin pressure as last time I flew with them I was deaf by the time we landed. However, they ARE cheap

Oh how I wish I could eat sushi. Just the mere thought of it has me dribbling like a baby with red cheeks and sore gums

Ok, two totally unrelated items to bring up today:-

Roxy pregnant? WTF? (what WAS that pregnancy test she used btw? Was it sponsored by St George with the whopping big cross on it??)

Anyone brave enough to watch the abortion programme on telly last night? I looked at DH, he at me and I flicked it over. Nuff said. Would be interested to know if it was factual though or just knee jerk stuff.

I'm actually doing lots of work today as I feel SO motivated. Plus I've got the best of Morrissey on the CD player and I sooooooooo loves that man.

happy, happy, happy......

pwcbird · 14/05/2008 10:08

Oh johnworf you do make me smile.

Eastenders - I know! I laughed when I saw that pregnancy test stick too. If you were blind you could have read that cross!

I taped the abortion programme and am totally undecided whether to watch it. I thought I'd leave it there and think about it and wait and see. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough. I agree - would be interested if it was factual.

EasyJet - it was a last resort. We've always gone BA before with DS but they have really put their prices up so were forced to book with EJ. It's only a 2.5 hour flight so hopefully we'll survive it. We can eat at the airport first and all that.

Have to go ... DS trying to get on keyboard... yikes.

johnworf · 14/05/2008 10:48

pwcbird hope your DS managed to get jam or rusk all over your keyboard It's a look I favour - or milk puke over your shoulder (where you can't see it - oh no you can't!)

And Morrissey has been singing to me this morning 'you're the one for me fatty'. How apt

jeanjeannie · 14/05/2008 10:55

NO - definately not brave enough to watch abortion programme. I have happy baby head on and so does DP....couldn't cope...although I'm sure it was really interesting. Hope it wasn't sensationalist.

johnworf Spent ages trying to work out 'Roxy Pregnant'...thought for a moment you meant the clothes brand Roxy were doing preggie stuff...! I thought...Ooooo, maternity clothes, swathed in hibiscus prints for the more discerning up-the-duff surfer dood girl Can you tell I'm more of a Corrie woman myself.

Oh, the thought of work (other than entertaining little Miss DD) sounds really appealing! A former client rang me a few weeks ago and was stunned that I couldnt do some press releases for them for 2nd June...I did explain I was giving birth on the 30th May...and they couldn't see the problem and went off in a huff..... I'm just sooo lazy

jeanjeannie · 14/05/2008 10:59

Hhahah just read the keyboard thing. We lost our f5 key...one of the tiny ones at the top....came out in dds poo................ Needless to say we exercise more care and supervision around laptop nowadays. Although am ashamed to say that one of dps soft, foam ear plugs was found in a nappy not so long ago..! yum, yum..why bother with Annabel Karmel recipes when ear wax flavour is clearly fab

johnworf · 14/05/2008 11:19

omg jeanjeannie your DD sounds like a hoover! .

I don't see any problem with writing a press release while baby firmly clamped to bosom and wincing at stitches. What's wrong with ya woman? Ya big wuss.

Obviously in the corporate world things run differently to ours - bet they have all their keys including F5 on their office keyboards. Flash gits indeed

Sorry about the obscure Roxy comment. I just assume that everyone is thinking/watching what I am.

LouiseAnn · 14/05/2008 14:18

We had our scan today and our new little boy looks perfect. I knew he would be a boy as my husbands family always have boys. Our 8yo ds is very happy that he is getting a brother. They let him in to see the scan. The scan lady was very nice to him and gave him his own 2 photos to take to school.

johnworf · 14/05/2008 14:40

LouiseAnn

Congratulations on your little boy!!

So pleased that you had a great scan experience. Mine was good too and it really makes the difference, especially when you've been worrying about it beforehand. Can DS make out the various body parts on the photos?

My DSS who is 8 wasn't best pleased that he wasn't getting the baby brother he had specifically requested but one of the 'other' kind - a sister! He's come round to the idea now and can't wait for August to come (and neither can I for that matter!)

johnworf · 14/05/2008 14:42

Noticed at last clinic appointment that my hospital has a policy of 'No Under 16's' visiting on the wards due to infection control.

How do I tell DSS he won't be allowed to come and visit baby in hospital? Especially as I'll be having a CS - not sure how long you're in for these but I guessed at 3-4 days?

didoreth · 14/05/2008 15:03

Hello everyone!
Congratulations Wahwah - sounds like you just pipped me to first baby born on the thread. Little babyDid was born 6am Sunday, also at home with no pain relief except the birthing pool, and no stitches! Not bad as he was 9lb 7oz. We older mothers rock!
(Has taken me a long time to post as I haven't been able to hobble as far as the computer till today though).

Kaz1967 · 14/05/2008 15:45

johnworf no under 16's at all we only used to let siblings in because kids do tend to be in contact with things like chicken pox colds etc so we tried to keep the number of children to a minimum. If they really have a no kids policy it may be possible for you to either leave the ward for a short period and either go out side and sit in the sun (we we still have any) or to the canteen or something. Lots of Mums must be in the same position they must be able to have some sort of solution for you

pwcbird · 14/05/2008 16:11

Wow!
didoreth wonderful congrats! Terrific news. We were all wondering how you were doing. 9lb 7oz! OUCH. DS was 8'11" and that was hard enough to push out. You are superwoman and no mistake. Well done and many hugs.

louiseAnn excellent news on your scan. It's such a relief to see and so thrilling.

johnworf and jeanjeannie you are both on fire today. You are making me chuckle so much with your banter. I love it.

No under 16's?? - it can't be good not to let a child see its parent when they've just had a baby especially if they're young as they don't/can't understand why they can't see their mummy etc. If I couldn't see DS when the new one pops out I'll be pretty p*d off. I agree with Kaz1967 - there has to be some way, though I also understand reasons why and all that.

Just been to toddler group with DS. I love toddler group. Your child can run around and shout endlessly whilst you just sit and chat to other mums whilst someone supplies you with tea and biscuits. It's the only time I ever get a cup of tea made for me. DH is a darling but so completely domestically MALE!

pwcbird · 14/05/2008 16:12

I just realised I put ds as 8 FEET 11 INCHES rather than 8 pounds 11 ounces. Err... he wasn't quite that tall......

johnworf · 14/05/2008 16:22

pwcbird for a moment I was in complete awe. I thought the next line might have read 'and he had a beard'

Didoreth how completely wonderful that you've had your little boy, at home, no stitches and what a WHOPPER! Wow. Bet you are very pleased with your little self. I would be Hope you're bruising subsides real soon and you give us some intermitent updates between baby feeds.

Not sure how I can get round the ban on children to the ward when I have mine. Perhaps they have special concessions for at least one visit. Surely they'd let a brother/sister in..it'd be all wrong wouldn't it to not let them bond? I'll have a word next time in clinic and see what their policy for maternity is.

The other thing I was wondering about was has anyone booked a private room in an NHS hospital in the past - maternity or otherwise? I was reading about it on another thread and apparently it's not that expensive. Not sure if this is a luxury confined to darn sarf or it's nationwide. Again, I must ask at clinic. Just wondered if anyone in here has done it in the past.

pwcbird · 14/05/2008 16:51

johnworf with my hospital (Mayday in Croydon - just read it's the 3rd worst hospital in Greater London ) the private rooms couldn't be booked in advance and were only available if they weren't being used already by other patients with problems/difficult births or for whatever reason it may be that you are given a single room. We were told that you could ask at the time and it would only be if one were free that you would get one. I did ask but there were none available so it was the ward for me! I think, from memory, it was about £50 per day.
