Maternity clothes

Where is everyone shopping for maternity clothes? I'm 8 weeks and already none of my clothes fit, jeans are popping open, circulation is being cut off... I don't want to spend a fortune but I want things that will grow with me, so elasticated bands preferable.

A lot of my clothes (especially for work) are from
Zara but I can't justify the prices. So I'm looking for good quality, not too expensive, capsule wardrobe, autumn leading into winter.

Any help would be so helpful SmileSmileFlowers

Unfortunately there's not a lot in physical shops these days. Online you have lots of choice.
H&M, JoJo Maman Bebe, Seraphine are where the vast majority of mine came from. Isabella Oliver for fancier things.

HiCandles · 26/09/2024 23:05

Just to add, Vinted often has lots of maternity clothes usually pretty good condition as it's only used for a short time.

Pickledprawn · 26/09/2024 23:07

New Look have quite a nice range

AnnieStar12 · 27/09/2024 06:37

vinted

muddlingthrou · 27/09/2024 06:42

Definitely vinted! Last pregnancy I got lots of stuff off ASOS, but they just seem to have loads of black and beige tents in at the moment that don't appeal. So I got a mixture of brands off vinted.

sel2223 · 27/09/2024 07:15

I posted a similar question last month and lots of ladies recommended Vinted which i'd never used before - there's loads on there!
Especially things like occasions dresses that you might wear once.
I also like New Look and Next

Thank you for your suggestions! And can I ask how you size up?
So if I'm usually a 10-12 what size should I be buying that will last me a while during the pregnancy

I found it easier to buy carefully selected things from the non maternity section and then went for 2 pairs of maternity jeans at the 3rd trimester and a few jumpers by then too as I was due in the dead of winter.

H&m have a good section, or elastic waist trousers from any normal section, knit stretchy dresses for winter can all be from non maternity.

TemuSpecialBuy · 27/09/2024 07:21

George Asda online is cheap and cheerful.

They do cheap nice " extra long" tshirt amd vest tops i bought a few one or 2 clothing sizes up. They are comfy and good stretch.
thry also had mat jumpers on sale for £2 i just bought 2 of the same and wore it lots

Their mat jeans were also good / cheap
They did until 40k weeks.

I got some nice dresses from new look online

Also vinted

sel2223 · 27/09/2024 07:27

I've bought specifically maternity things for the bottom half for over winter (1 x jeans, 1 x leggings, a couple of pairs of maternity tights) as need the band that stretches with the bump. Normal size is fine.

Tops and dresses I have just bought from the standard range but looser fitting styles and a couple of sizes bigger than normal. I'm going to breastfeed so will get some nursing tops as well.

I'm going to get a Xmas party dress off vinted, and have a wedding when I'm 8 months pregnant so will probably order something off Vinted for that too.

Might order one of those coats with the extra panel at the front off vinted too.

Dogandphone · 27/09/2024 07:29

I was the same as you, into maternity leggings at 8 weeks. I bought some from Vinted and ASOS for leggings. Jojo is nice quality but some styles are a bit mumsy. I wouldn’t usually shop there but bought quite a bit from Boohoo, which were more fashionable.

Dogandphone · 27/09/2024 07:29

Oh and just buy your normal size. It’s after you give birth you’ll have to size up 😂

Hsolley0904 · 27/09/2024 07:32

H and M are good. Amazon is where I got my maternity leggings from (soo much cheaper than in the shops). Vinted also okay but I struggled on there, probably because I’m 6ft though!

Matildahoney · 27/09/2024 07:41

River island jeans are lovely. But to echo others look on vinted.

HopefulllHolly · 27/09/2024 07:57

I have tried to be clever with my maternity shopping by buying normal clothes that are slightly oversized (I wear that stuff anyway likes Frankie’s Shop blazers etc). So I’ve got lots of shirts I wear half done up over a tshirt or cardigans etc - most of these are Zara h+m and asos. I bought a few pairs of maternity jeans (I bought seraphine but tbh I found h+m comfier) and some more aligne leggings by lulu lemon as I wore these pre pregnancy and they are so stretchy they fit me still at 23 weeks. I have bought some maternity T-shirts and tops from Hm too as well as some stuff that’s more Christmassy dressy but other than that I’m wearing my usual clothes.
Not bought anything for post pregnancy for breast feeding yet so that’s next on the list!

Jk987 · 27/09/2024 08:00

New Look, Asda George, Very and Vertbaudet - all online.

JoJo and Seraphine are expensive.

Vinted is great for this sort of thing.

Reddy01 · 27/09/2024 08:14

I have found that boohoo, new look, amazon and shein for me. Quality ranges everywhere but I found sizes vary. I am normally a size 10 and I have stuck with that size but sometimes it's a little short to cover bump or it only really fit once I had a proper bump and not just the bloat. A maxi skirt is a must I think as you can dress it up or down ☺

Look for maternity bundles on vinted, you can usually find good deals with a mix of brands.
For me I've found H&M great for jeans/leggings, JoJo and Mamalicious good for tops. Also maternity vests with undone shirts is a comfy option! Vinted stuff is often barely worn and usually in good condition!

Superscientist · 27/09/2024 10:29

I have maternity dresses and tops that I'm still wearing 4 years on! The dresses fit under the bust and then are floaty so you can't tell they are maternity. The tops were maternity/breastfeeding with panels that overlap when not pregnant and pull apart to go over the bump when pregnant.
If you look at the cut and how the clothes accommodate the bump you can get more use out of them than you can imagine!

Combattingthemoaners · 27/09/2024 10:35

H&M have comfortable work trousers that don’t look too bad. Lovall do the best and most comfiest leggings! They may also do work trousers etc but they are not cheap.

I bought my tops from Shein for work and they actually washed well. I found it really frustrating how you can’t buy any maternity clothes inside shops, everything is online. Lots of it is dreadful too!

In specific maternity clothes, you buy your normal size and they have room allowed to accommodate bump. If buying non maternity bigger things, I was 8-10 pre pregnancy and was easily still fitting borrowed size 14 things at the end, and some larger size 12.
@Dazedandconfusedma as in my earlier message and those from others, the same brands as recommended to buy new. More expensive stuff often wears better eg Seraphine, JJMB, but definitely possible to find cheaper stuff in perfectly decent condition secondhand.

Blue2020 · 27/09/2024 22:02

Leggings both maternity and normal (2+ sizes up). I also got two pairs of maternity jeans that I lived in and alternated. I got the under bump ones, I did also get over bump ones but I spent the whole time itching my stomach and never wore them again. Or constantly pulling them up because I didn’t have enough of a bump to keep it up in the second trimester. Same as my usual size.

I did t bother with T-shirts/jumpers because I already owned some comfortable fluffy winter jumpers that went over my bump. These were non maternity from weird fish.

I did also pick up a few maternity/nursing dresses and tops from vinted because I was having baby in the early spring.

Weallgotcrowns · 28/09/2024 00:43

I second Jojo Maman Bebe for quality! Agree some of their styles are a bit mumsy but I got great striped t shirts, leggings, dungarees (I know not everyone’s a fan but I love them during pregnancy!) and two dresses from there. For dresses in particular I think it’s worth it to get maternity specific styles as I find just sizing up in regular clothes made me look way bigger than I was, whereas the Jojo dresses hug my bump and there’s no mistaking I’m pregnant!
