We were told at 20 weeks we're having a girl and again at 28 weeks but I'm still a little bit nervous that all the pink stuff we've been given/bought may have to go back... You can never be 100% sure!

we were offered at 13 week scan with dd2 but we had not prepared for the question so had to say no!

Find another private scanner Disenchanted?
But Becky77 is absolutely right - can't always be sure...

Yes the earlier it is the more uncertainty there is though. We were told at 13 weeks that that dd was a girl, at 14 weeks that the baby was lost was probably a girl & at 15 weeks that ds was a boy. All were correct & all three were from scans in various fetal medicine departments.

I know someone in the US that was told with 80% certainy that her twins were both girls before 11 weeks - the structure that becomes the external geitalia is present in both male & female at that stage (& pokes out like a willy) but is at a different angle to the body in boys & girls.

surely the later you are told, teh more accurate... i saw a 4d scan at 16 weeks, and the clinical lead obstetrician doing the scan would not say what gender he thought the baby was. i would hang on until 20 + for a more accurate scan, surely that is the whole point, to get a more accurate answer

I think generally boys are much easier to identify than girls! The stats from studies at 11 weeks are generally pretty lousy for determining gender (see hatrick's link below) - something like 50% which is no better than a finger in the air!
