Saw we hit page 40, so figured I'd get a head start on the next thread just in case!!

Oh gosh, I just thought, there may not be very many more of these threads - I wonder if this one may even be the last?!

HUGE congrats to @MudandMoet on their gorgeous wee one!!
Best of luck on your way home this afternoon/this evening, I'm desperate to ask all about what it was like but I'll avoid that as I don't want anyone to get nervous/anxious about what's to come!!

Super glad you're feeling mostly okay and so so SO happy for you! <3

Hello all! He’s here and he’s amazing. 🩵 It all feels very surreal indeed. The CS was much less scary than I’d anticipated. In a complete love bubble 🥰

malimoon · 17/09/2024 21:39

Congratulations @Decaffe that's so lovely to hear, glad it was a good experience

PinkWatermelon88 · 17/09/2024 21:42

Ah brilliant news @Decaffe - enjoy the snugs!!

@TripleESept24 I KKNNOOOWWWWW - I am so done now, which I feel guilty saying. I just want them here. Lets hope it works for both of us tomorrow! My partner reckons I should ask to be induced later in the week. I had one on my first and while it wasn't bad I would love to go myself this time... and yet I'm WRECKED so maybe it's best all round! Hoping for babies for us real soon Xx

TripleESept24 · 17/09/2024 21:56

Enjoy your bubble with baby boy @Decaffe

@PinkWatermelon88 will post an update tomorrow! It does feel good to go into labour yourself but I'm down for induction now before next Tuesday when family arrive!!

PinkWatermelon88 · 17/09/2024 22:59

I hear you @TripleESept24 … sometimes enough is enough! Let me know how you go- I’m in at 2. I just put clary sage on my belly I’m that desperate lol!

Cinai2 · 18/09/2024 00:39

@Decaffe congratulations! Wishing you a speedy recovery! I’m happy to say that I never was in any pain, and now on day 4 I walk around the house slowly but without problems

Decaffe · 18/09/2024 01:34

Thank you all!

Does anyone have any advice - DS(☺️!) simply won’t go down in the hospital crib. He wants to be held… which is fine but DH and I are desperate for some sleep!

kc92 · 18/09/2024 01:45

Congrats @Decaffe 🥰

Have you tried swaddling him? Often it's the moro reflex keeping them awake when their little arms jerk. If that doesn't work, I'd highly recommend looking up the safe sleep seven guidelines for co-sleeping. I popped the side up on the hospital bed, stuffed the crack with pillows and brought my DS in with me to get some rest.

Decaffe · 18/09/2024 02:10

Thank you, yes good call on the swaddling I’ll give it a go in the morning.

It’s Piccadilly Circus in here right now. One lady has been on the phone to her mum for the past 30 mins. One lady got a loud bollocking from a nurse for not bringing in any milk. She then proceeded to call her husband on speaker phone for a chat. It’s gone 2 FGS!

DS has fallen asleep in what is seemingly his favourite position - nipple in mouth even if not hungry!

OMG I have a DS 😂

FuppinNora · 18/09/2024 02:48

@Xur @hol92 @Decaffe congrats on your little bundles 😍 enjoy them.
@Decaffe try wrapping him in a cellular blanket with his arms down, doesn't have to be a proper swaddle but will help him feel secure. He is after coming from a warm cramped place 😊

I couldn't get over the lack of respect of patients on their phone and not only was it phonecalls it was facetime so you could hear the other person too on a shitty speaker.

Demi55 · 18/09/2024 07:04

@Decaffe congratulations! Hope the ward quieten

@PinkWatermelon88 @TripleESept24 i had a sweep yesterday evening, I’ve got my fingers crossed it works soon! Hope yours works too! Had so much lightening crotch last night and pains but woke up this morning with that gone so far anyway but feeling super nauseous

Wanderlust86 · 18/09/2024 07:37

Congratulations @Decaffe 🎊
I was told september is the maternity wards busiest time. She told me it's like Christmas for them in September. The ward I was on seemed chaotic too but thankfully she (still no name 🙈) slept right through it all. Now that we are home things have changed 😆

kc92 · 18/09/2024 08:24

It seems like every family I know has at least one September baby. 🤣

@Kiwi23 & @BakeOffRewatch how are your little ones doing? Have been thinking of you!

@rosieph & @SpicyMoth hope your births went okay. 🤞

hol92 · 18/09/2024 09:13

Congrats @Decaffe 🥰🥰 enjoy every moment! 😍🩵 hope you arnt too sore x

Caroline2023 · 18/09/2024 09:22

Congratulations @Decaffe 💙 Hope you can be discharged home soon to have some quiet space!

TripleESept24 · 18/09/2024 09:30

It's last midwife appointment and second sweep day! 🤞

One thing @Decaffe has mentioned is a midwife giving a lady a bollocking for not taking any milk in!!! Really!?!? What formula?? Or harvested??

This was NOT a thing at all when I had my daughter. I breastfed fine/no issues and I am determined i will be again no matter how difficult it may be so I haven't bought any formula!! However, I have been doing nipple stimulation/can see colostrum droplets but have found it extremely hard to "harvest" and collect any! I checked with my friend who breastfed all 4 of hers too and she said she'd never taken any In with her! I feel like it's a little mean to be having a go at people 😧😓

malimoon · 18/09/2024 10:05

@TripleESept24 I'm sure it varies by trust or even hospital. My midwife gave me some syringes to colostrum harvest but said not to take anything in with me in the first instance as hospital can't store it for everyone, if baby needs it for whatever reason they will send my partner home to pick it up (assuming I have some). So I don't think I'd be told off for not bringing it!!

WinsandSam · 18/09/2024 10:18

@Decaffe congratulations 🥳 hope he's doing well and you're not in any pain or discomfort. I hear the postnatal wards are meant to be hell and people have zero consideration for others.. bet you can't wait to get home.

@Cinai2 wow that's amazing!! I'm hoping for that recovery after Friday

@TripleESept24 my only thought was that maybe the lady didn't plan on breastfeeding but didn't bring milk?! Just a guess. I've been told not to bring any as makes it easier to give up on breastfeeding.

RosiePH · 18/09/2024 10:55

A little update from me! After my waters went at 5.50am on Saturday at 37+6 and I started contractions, I went in and had my c-section. When I last posted we were being prepped for theatre that morning. A big emergency then came in so because of my GD and insulin-usage, they asked me to eat 2 slices of toast and wait 6 hours. I spent the time on the ward contracting which was fine to begin with although I didn’t enjoy it for the final hour as I reached a contraction every 2 minutes and most women on the ward had already had their baby so I was trying not to groan too loudly! Unfortunately I was only allowed a cup of water in those 6 hours so I was so dehydrated by the time I got to theatre. Also, more waters went in a big trickle down my leg on the walk in so I arrived very wet haha.

But the c-section itself was an amazing experience. He did have to spend the first half hour being treated for some breathing difficulties but they did it all to the side of me and told me what they were doing and then he was fine afterwards. We spent 48 hours on the ward afterwards. The staff were amazing, especially that first night, with helping me do everything including feeding. Breastfeeding hasn’t gone to plan. Baby won’t suck the nipple once he latches so the hospital gave me plenty of formula to support us through the time there. And now they’ve leant me an electric pump so I can express some milk to combi-feed at home. Supply can’t in after 60 hours so not delayed by the section at all.

Recovery has been harder than expected. I went in thinking it was a paracetamol and ibuprofen job but I’ve needed liquid morphine and I had to take dihydrocodeine home with me. I am still struggling to move quickly and getting in and out of bed is hard! Putting that down to 12 hours of contracting and dehydration pre-section which meant I went in tired.

congratulations to everyone who has had their baby already! And good luck to those still waiting. Love reading all the updates when I can.

Emmaev · 18/09/2024 11:03

So wonderful to hear so many sweet babies have been born! Congratulations to all who welcomed your babe recently.

Update from us our indie is back to birth weight and been discharged from the midwife. Power to the boobie milk, although cluster feeding is brutal and I’ve probably slept 2 hours max a night!

We have a referral for a hip scan soon as the midwife said she might have a clicky hip, she’s also got a referral for a sacral dimple at the base of her spine (she was checked twice in hospital and discharged with no concerns, but the hv saw it again and referred us to the gp about it, although I’m almost certain our eldest had the same, however it being 8 years ago and her in the nicu for weeks I can’t remember), inds also has an incomplete hearing test in her left ear, so she has to have it looked at again tomorrow, although the hv struggled to get the bit into her tiny ear.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these things?

kc92 · 18/09/2024 11:34

@Emmaev that's incredible she's back to birth weight already 💪

My first had a referral to get his hips checked because of asymmetrical leg fat folds. By the time he got checked he was 6mths + so we had to do an X-ray but before that I think they prefer ultrasounds. Very quick and instant results. He didn't even notice it happening.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 18/09/2024 13:42

@Emmaev just on the hearing test, the midwife in hospital told me lots of babies don't pass the test first time and not to worry if they need to repeat it. It usually is because of how the test is done, not that there is anything wrong with baby's hearing.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 18/09/2024 13:45

@RosiePH congratulations! Your c section recovery sounds a lot like mine and I didn't have the dehydration and labour beforehand. It's major surgery so take it easy and take care of yourself (hard with a newborn baby!). I needed painkillers for about 4-5 days and then just paracetamol for another week after that. My baby is 3 weeks old now but I still can't touch the area around the scar, it's weirdly tender and sensitive.

FuppinNora · 18/09/2024 13:46

@Emmaev was the hearing test a little sound earphone thing? The lady that did mine said it is common for babies to fail the test as it is very sensitive and sometimes the noise of the ward can interfere. Also fluid in the ear due to birth especially c section. My DS failed his first time, so she lay him on his side and came back half hour later to try him again. When she was doing it there was a consultant there talking loudly to someone else and he was failing the test again, she told the consultant to be quiet and he passed! So to cut a long story short they are very sensitive and it is common to fail it, I was just lucky she came back half hour later usually it would be a call back.

Emmaev · 18/09/2024 14:03

@kc92 thanks hun, we’ve got an ultrasound scan on the 30th. I haven’t noticed any difference between her 2 legs and she’s very strong at kicking when I’m trying to change her nappy haha

@HuggingAnIcePack887 i swear our eldest also failed in one ear the first time and she has excellent hearing. So I’m not too worried, me and my partner always joke that baby girl has excellent hearing because as soon as she hears my voice she instantly wakes up and starts rooting for food!

@FuppinNora yeah it was with the ear buds, it was at our house so was quiet. But she had a lot of trouble getting the 2nd earbud in and kept changing the buds in it, whereas the first ear passed straight away without having to change or mess around. I’ve heard it’s very common to fail the first time, and that if they’re a c section baby they’re more likely to have fluid in their ears.

It’s obviously great that they’re so on it with babies, but does add to the anxieties. I’ll be happy once all these checks are complete
