Saw we hit page 40, so figured I'd get a head start on the next thread just in case!!

Oh gosh, I just thought, there may not be very many more of these threads - I wonder if this one may even be the last?!

HUGE congrats to @MudandMoet on their gorgeous wee one!!
Best of luck on your way home this afternoon/this evening, I'm desperate to ask all about what it was like but I'll avoid that as I don't want anyone to get nervous/anxious about what's to come!!

Super glad you're feeling mostly okay and so so SO happy for you! <3

So excited to see all the baby updates! This year has gone so incredibly fast.

An update from us, we’re just getting to grips with breastfeeding, I forgot how difficult the first few days of cluster feeding were. I think my milk is on the verge of coming in, so hoping that will help to settle her a bit more.

All the anxieties are still there, feel like I’m constantly fretting that I don’t feed her enough, that she’s not gaining any weight. But we’re trying to navigate day by day. She has a check tomorrow though, so can hopefully ease some worries.

Kiwi23 · 03/09/2024 12:41

38 weeks today had my first sweep but my womb is tilted so could only just walk her fingers round but hopefully it helps

Xur · 03/09/2024 16:39

Update from me-I’m home. They don’t think I have preeclampsia, because all my bloods are coming back very good, like, better than expected for a pregnant person and they are blaming this on gestational hypertension. Since Indidnt respond to the drugs very well (and I had side effects) they have basically decided to not prescribe me meds, let me home and let me wait for natural labour. They did want me to come back for monitoring, but that’s booked for Friday which is one day off of my due date.

So yeah, I’m glad to be honest.

BakeOffRewatch · 03/09/2024 16:59

Welcome home @Xur . How do you feel?

I’m not sleeping at night either recently, which was the same in the last couple of weeks of my first pregnancy.

i can’t keep track of everyone’s updates either, sorry 🙈

BakeOffRewatch · 03/09/2024 20:53

Just wondering if everyone has seen that RSV vaccine thread is available for women over 28 weeks up until delivery? They say it takes 2 weeks to develop and pass immunity through placenta, but some immunity is passed on through breast milk too so worth doing. I didn’t know about it just saw a thread. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-programme-information-for-healthcare-professionals/rsv-vaccination-of-pregnant-women-for-infant-protection-information-for-healthcare-practitioners#timing-of-vaccine-administration

Xur · 03/09/2024 21:03

@BakeOffRewatch I feel great, we came come, had some tacos and thenhad a nap! It was a good day 😎

Caroline2023 · 03/09/2024 21:33

@Xur glad to hear it’s not preeclampsia. Hope you can get some rest now after what sounds like a very stressful day(s)!

I now have my c-section booked for the 18th! The doctor seemed to think there was a good chance that she may come earlier than that though, but we will see! Glad to have a date in my head now though to work towards.

WinsandSam · 03/09/2024 22:05

@BakeOffRewatch I've had a text about it today, but have done some reading and said it should be given before 36+6.. so I wasn't going to. My midwife hasn't mentioned it to me either. Would be happy to have it if I knew it would be beneficial

I thought the only reason it was ‘off licence’ for 36+ weeks was only because of the two week effectiveness thing? Is there another reason?

I have mine booked in for 37+2 - there’ll only be ten days to go before my c-section but I’m definitely of the opinion that if it offers even a little bit of a boost for baby that’ll be fine by me.

BakeOffRewatch · 03/09/2024 22:41

Just reading the link it says the benefit of getting it later is that it protects you too and hence transmission to infant. So interesting how advice varies trust to trust. I’ve also been told to get Covid and flu when they’re rereleased in a few weeks.

In labour or after delivery
It is clinically reasonable for women who present in labour and have not received the RSV vaccine during pregnancy to be offered the vaccine up until the time of discharge from hospital following delivery, or in comparable circumstances for births outside of hospital. However, this may not be available from all NHS services. The emphasis remains on offering vaccination from week 28 of pregnancy for trans-placental transfer of antibodies.
A vaccine delivered to the mother in labour or after delivery would not offer passive protection to the baby through transplacental antibody transfer but may protect the mother from contracting RSV or make her less infectious and therefore reduce chance of transmission to the infant. There may also be antibody transfer to the baby through breastmilk.

mrsbgb · 04/09/2024 06:58

I got the RSV jab yesterday at 38+4 - possibly not enough time to help baby (not that he’s showing any signs of turning up!) but figured it couldn’t hurt and nice to not worry myself about another virus this winter. Hoping to get my flu jab before he arrives too! No side effects - felt much worse after the whooping cough jab.

WinsandSam · 04/09/2024 08:48

@BakeOffRewatch @mrsbgb thanks! Great to know.. probably should have read the link you send. Will have a look at booking for next week as have no car this week to get to a centre

Wanderlust86 · 04/09/2024 10:09

I had the RSV vaccine at my 36 week appointment. My midwife told me they are now offering it to everyone from 28 weeks. That's in Scotland though, might be different elsewhere.

Wanderlust86 · 04/09/2024 10:11

Also had no side effects at all and didn't even feel it. Its not like the whooping cough vaccine which I thought was nippy.

RosiePH · 04/09/2024 10:42

I’ve booked my RSV for Saturday. I’ll be 36+6. Hoping that gives enough time as I’m struggling a bit with my recent GD diagnosis. As it came so late, I’ve gone to insulin for my fasting levels but it’s not doing anything so far. Got a c section at 39+1 which they are leaving for now unless I need multiple dose increases of insulin.

Really nervous about breastfeeding now as I’ve been told GD and the c section might impact it and I should really try and get some colostrum now. I’m scared to even try now as I’ve become quite stressed and disillusioned with my body over the last few days. Everything makes me feel squeamish now!! And then I feel selfish for struggling to put baby’s needs above my own fears.

if you’d have told this needle-phone a year ago that I’d be voluntarily signing up for extra vaccines, injecting myself with insulin and finger pricking hundreds of times, I would never have believed you! I’m still scared of the cannula and catheter though haha.

BakeOffRewatch · 04/09/2024 10:44

@WinsandSam i spoke to my midwife, it does seem to vary. Like the GOV UK website says “clinically reasonable”, whatever that means, to give it up to delivery, so I asked can I have it if I go in to be induced and she said better to have it before if I can, in case have a fever response or something.

WinsandSam · 04/09/2024 10:50

@BakeOffRewatch I've booked for next Monday when I'll be 38 weeks. They can always turn me away I guess.

@RosiePH please don't feel bad! I've struggled with anxiety throughout pregnancy and it's always been about my own needs rather than babies. I've felt very selfish but therapy has taught me it's just my brain responding to fear and trying to problem solve.

Decaffe · 04/09/2024 11:20

@Emmaev may I ask a silly question please - you say your milk only just coming in - what have you been doing for feeding before now? Formula? I’ve never quite understood how it works in the first few days! Thank you ☺️

@BakeOffRewatch I think ‘clinically reasonable’ just means ‘it makes sense from a medical perspective.’

Emmaev · 04/09/2024 11:33

@Decaffe for the first few days it’s just colostrum, it’s much thicker and babies belly is about the size of a cherry. So a small amount fills them up. But you’ve got to pretty much constantly be feeding them, in my experience. My little indie has been cluster feeding like no tomorrow.

Milk comes in between days 3-5, mine came yesterday 4 days postpartum

I haven’t used formula but I have a friend who used formula from days 2-3. If indie had been unsettled I would have done the same. However the colostrum appeared to be enough for her as she has been very settled.

Ive also been constantly checking her nappies to make sure they have been wet and soiled which they have been, so I know she’s been hydrated enough.

Decaffe · 04/09/2024 11:40

Ohh! I see. I always thought that when people said their milk hadn’t come in, that meant colostrum hadn’t come in either. That makes far more sense! Thank you. In my defence I’m working on about four hours’ sleep a night currently… I feel like a zombie! 😅

Khanga27 · 04/09/2024 12:51

Hi all, had my second sweep today (I’m 40+6). Midwife could feel things had progressed vs last week - still only 1cm dilated, but cervix is thinner and she could get to baby’s head this time. Hoping this progress naturally but I have induction booked Friday afternoon anyway.

i asked about RSV vaccine, she said I could ask when I go in for induction, there may be some immunity passed to baby through breast milk but that it was too late to have in terms of passing through placenta as takes about 2 weeks for that. Not letting it worry me too much, as she explained only been something offered since 1st September.

BakeOffRewatch · 04/09/2024 13:16

Thanks for sharing your midwife’s comments @Khanga27 . Hoping things happen naturally for you too, and will be thinking of you on Friday.

PinkWatermelon88 · 04/09/2024 14:09

I couldn’t get any colostrum for my first baby and ended up EBF for 16m. So it’s not always an indicator of a successful BF journey xx

38+1 today. Inner thighs so tender, you’d swear I went HAM at the stair machine! Midwife giving me a sweep at 39w, 40w, then a scan at 41w and monitoring every second day before induction at 42w. If ofc I change my mind on induction at any stage they’ll do it right away. Just really hoping I go myself

BakeOffRewatch · 04/09/2024 14:17

Always worry about outing myself by over sharing on this username but I like being a familiar “face”… midwife gave me syringes first time around, they’re tiny only hold 2ml, so guess that’s what’s expected. I spent a 2hr film milking and then I dropped the syringe and spilled it whilst trying to put the lid on! Baby was fine. Another thing I’m just not bothering with this time around.

kc92 · 04/09/2024 14:23

@Khanga27 hopefully the sweep will kick things off for you. 🤞 If not Friday will be a beautiful birthday for your little one.

@PinkWatermelon88 I didn't get any first time round either & breastfeed until 17 months - hoping it'll work out for us this time too.

@Emmaev how are you feeling now that your milk has come in? I remember that being the trippiest hormone change!
