Anyone newly pregnant with number 1 and works full-time? Would like someone to share this with :)

Hi there... Am 34 and just got my BFP. Due 20th Dec (fingers crossed!) Have been reading threads since TTC but since I work days - can only get to pc in the evenings - and then I have missed loads! Anybody out there in the same boat to keep me company? Feel like such a novice at this - would love to chat to other newbies...

Yes, they are pretty manic. School hols here...

I nannied for 3 boys under 5yrs - that was fun! That said it was over 10 years ago - not sure I'd have the stamina now though.. lol...

Hi purplegryffon Congratulations, I'm 37 and 18 weeks with my first too. Due 16 Sept. I officially work full time, but was so sick from weeks 9-16 I was in hopsital or off sick at home. I am now workinmg part time, building back up to full time over a a month, so I'll be in the same boat as you again soon. Only discovered Mumsnet when I was off sick, so I didn't miss it during the day during my first few weeks of pg when I was working full time. It seems to be a much more appropriate forum than the mountain biking forums I used to fritter away my time on.

How are you doing so far?

Hi chequers - how are you managing at work? They helpful with you? I had my risk assessment today & there is so much I can't do it's frustrating already!

banana - crap mum? In what way do you think it differs from nanny to mum (apart from the not being paid and handing them back part?)

AHLH - was the sickness bad? I have a phobia of vomit! Not god as a) am a nurse! and b) I just know it's coming! Do you feel better now?

I feel ok, stretchy mad feelings in lower belly, achey boobs & gagged over a cup of coffee this morning - but that's it! That said, it is really early days yet...

sp - not good I mean - and obviously the sick was bad cos you wouldn't have been off or hospitalised - see pickled brain already! sorry!

purplegryffon Yes, the sickness was bad! I coudln't keep down A THING - not even antiemetics - for 6 weeks. I'd go into hospital, get rehydrated on a drip over a few days, and then the docs would discharge me even though I told them I wasn't feeling well enough to eat and drink. This happened 4 times, until one day it just stopped. I also had a phobia of vomit, but after dealing with it several times a day for several weeks I got over it, but wouldn't go anywhere without a sick bowl!Feeling loads better now, but still week from being in bed for 6 weeks. Pre pg I used to run 10K three times a weeks - that just seems like a dim memory now.

My manager's wife is a month more pregnant than me. She works for us too, so he is well into our maternity policy! He did my risk assessment first day back. HR have been fab too, and I have been referred to Occupational Health too.

Hi purple, am 15 weeks tomorrow with my first and work full time (I use the word 'work' loosely as v. quiet at the moment) I was a nanny about 10-12 years ago as well, to three little people and quite frankly have no idea how I did it. Am very scared that I will be rubbish and stressed out and panicky and forget everything I learnt back then!
Have been really lucky so far, no sickness, just knackered and want to crawl under my desk to go to sleep- how do people cope when they're 30+ weeks? Eek!

hanaflower - hi - do I recognise you from TTC threads? I 'read' them for ages - and everyone seemed so nice... How are you doing? I'd love to join the Dec threads but I think I'd miss so much throughout the day - must pop in and introduce myself - they will be a pot of info I think for all my daft questions!

Beakas - hi... Do you think all moms get scared and panicky? I felt like it took us forever to get PG, now it's here I'm more worried at it sticking cos I'm one big lady anyway - even before I sprout out the way anymore! Lol... And you know what? I think we'll just make it all up as we go along - (I can't remember the last time I held a newborn) - despite 10 years of nannying! And as for labour - oooh - don't even want to go there!

Daniya - hi... Great news about your job! Mine were ok but I have set the precedant (sp?) by being the first one to be risk assessed - so health and safety, my line manager & the bosses are all scratching their heads at the minute! Our finances are pretty crap too and we've scared ourselves silly today by going around mothercare world, mamas and papas!

But as for symptoms - it felt like a vice around my middle yesterday, lots of niggles, and the headaches - ooh - that's all normal then???

Hi purplegryffon. I'm 30 and pregnant with first baby too. I also work full time. Due on the 19th September. Have had really bad nausea and sickness until a few days ago. I'm still not able to eat that much- significant loss of appetite and limited diet (no hot meals- just biscuits, fruit and cereal). But work are pretty understanding about everything (female dominated environment so a lot of them have been there, done that!).

P.s. also fairly new to mumsnet. What do all the abbreviations mean?! Is anyone else confused- is there a glossary of terms so I can learn it! I've worked some out but some messages still leave me a little confused in places! Hope I'm not the only one otherwise would feel like a bit of a dumbo...

Congratulations and thanks for starting this thread - I'm in exactly the same boat. 8 weeks pg, work full time in an office and really struggling to keep a lid on the panic/excitement (I'm pg after 2 m/c.) Long hours and being on the ball are expected, and I feel (and look) completely green. I haven't told them yet, dreading it, not planning to for at least another month. Does anyone have any tips on how and when to deliver the news to a boss?

AHLH - gosh you've had a hard time of it haven't you? That's just horrid... In awe of all your running pre-pg- omg - my body is built for comfort! I guess it'll be one way to cure my phobia! I hope that you are at least feeling better now...

offthecoffee - love the name - I had my first experience of 'the boak' after making a coffee for a colleague the other day... I guess that's just a sign of things to come... So sorry about your m/c's - I am so afraid of the same... Fingers crossed for us both this time... I had to tell my boss as soon as we knew as I work in a secure environment - which kind of ruined 'the telling' - if work knows then everyone should. So here I am at 4+5 and the world knows! It's going to be a long pregnancy hence this thread...

hi purple- yep I do think all new mums must get panicky, only natural etc. and we tried for ages as well before we got there!I looked at myself in the mirror this morning and suddenly seemed enormous (also could never be accused of being thin before, quite the opposite-hey, children like their mums to be cuddly, don't they?!)Am going to make the announcement at work next week and am dreading it. I work with 2 guys so can't see hugs and tears and excitement, somehow..
OFFTHECOFFEE- no tips, am afraid, as just as worried as you..will let you know how it goes, and if I come up with any genius plans!

Hi there beakas - good luck with 'the tell' To be honest it's been the blokes reaction which has surprised and touched me most... they have reacted the best - and have become quite protective and caring! It's the women who have been least positive as they are all older and have 'been there, done that' - with a reaction of 'great but get on with it - it's only pregnancy!' I hope then then the guys you work with surprise you and look after you! I announced with - 'sorry if I appear a bit off - but guess what? I'm pregnant!' and they were really cool...
What do you do? Will your pregnancy affect them much? Being nosey now...

p.s at least you are past the scary part - congrats! At nearly 5 weeks - this is worrying me a lot - guess that won't help me any though eh?

This is my first baby, due 4th Sept so not in the early stages as you are, but also work F-T and also worried the hell out of myself at the start, don't worry (HA HA!) it's normal to freak out about everything, every last little thing! I've only just learned to get over the fact that I used oven cleaner (for about 2 minutes!)whilst I was pregnant, I only used it once but then read something about how I shouldn't have and so obviously nearly put myself in hospital with worry! I'm over it now!

Defo try not to worry (I know thats so easy for me to say, as I didn't heed my own advice)No one tells you to expect funny pains or headaches or yucky things happening 'down below' etc. so how do we know if it's normal or not? Grrr!!
Am an estate agent (shhhh!!! I'm nice really!) and only work with two guys- one much nicer/easier to work with than the other. Think I'm going to tell them a week today, just as I'm about to leave as will then have the weekend and Monday (day off) to calm down!!(all of us)
