Oh @Piluka that's great! She looks incredibly chilled out 😄 Yes, the percentile could just be because your partner is tall - if you haven't yet had a call about your glucose test then it's sounding like it could be good news and you don't have it?

Such a lovely picture, thanks for sharing!

There is always a margin of error with scans especially with big babies, if your husband is tall that could explain it! You can get big babies with GD but you can also get big babies without! And you can have GD but an average sized baby. Have you called for your results @Piluka - the waiting was torturous for me and the midwives were happy to give me the results over the phone!

QuantumPanic · 20/11/2024 10:07

Congrats @Piluka. 92nd centile!! 💪

I have joined the ranks of those who have paid a visit to MAU. I had two days of very little movement and then another two days where she only really twitched when I gave her a poke. As soon as the monitor was strapped on she started kicking and wriggling as usual, so I ended up with egg on my face, but I was happy about it. Everyone was extremely lovely, too.

Piluka · 20/11/2024 11:14

@UrbanSquirrel i think mine was envious of yours that always appeared super chilled! Hahaha.

Thanks @OrangeSlices998 @QuantumPanic let's see what they say about the GD of they say something. Tomorrow I have the RVS vaccination + midwife appointment (busy week this one) so, the midwife wanted to see me just after the GD test and Grown scan. I'll ask her if she can see the results on her computer.

retrievermum · 20/11/2024 13:11

@QuantumPanic glad everything was okay! Definitely worth going, well done for biting the bullet!

UncharteredWaters · 20/11/2024 21:05

Anyone planning to do shopping in any Black Friday sales/offers? I feel like I should have thought of what I need before now 🤣

Lidlisthebusiness · 20/11/2024 22:03

@UncharteredWaters absolutely! I was looking for a pram, but found a fab deal on Marketplace, and I've been adding things to my Amazon Baby Wish List which gives 15% off and a free gift so I'm hoping some of those items come down in price.

I’ve taken full advantage of the John Lewis sale for car seat & pushchair bits (to combine with second hand Vinted stuff haha), seemed to be price matched against sales elsewhere!

That’s good to know about the John Lewis sale!
which pushchair did you go for?

we are going to look at the weekend but so many choices!

elb1504 · 21/11/2024 07:37

There's quite a lot of good amazon deals, including Mam bottles, the nuby rapid cool, white noise machines to name a few.

Lidlisthebusiness · 21/11/2024 09:44

Nothing on my wishlist has been reduced at all! Disappointing at the moment, but then it's not even black Friday until next week so I'll keep an eye on things.

QuantumPanic · 21/11/2024 10:11

I bought a car seat from Kiddies Kingdom for 40% off - pretty good, I thought. They also had pipetta things slightly more discounted than from the pipetta website, so I bought some bottles too.

UncharteredWaters · 21/11/2024 13:41

@QuantumPanic ive not seen pipetta things - would you recommend?
@elb1504 ohhh thanks - I’ll have a look!

EastLondonCoffeeFiend · 21/11/2024 14:12

I went for the Joolz Aer+ after trying it instore - I’d actually been planning a Stokke Babyzen Yoyo, but the fold is so much easier with the Joolz!

We’ve been a bit ridiculous though, and actually decided to have two pushchairs 😅 The Joolz one will be for the tube, trains, travel etc (and it fits into our tiny car more easily). Then we have a secondhand Bugaboo Fox for local walks in forests/parks etc

UrbanSquirrel · 21/11/2024 14:14

As I mentioned on Facebook, Amazon (and the Owlet site) have a really good deal on the Owlet sock to monitor heart rate and oxygen levels.
I know it isn't for everyone, but I'm a worrier 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I feel it would help me stay calm. Recent reviews suggest it's a bit of a brain ache to set it up, but I will report back in due course.

Also going to get the penguin shaped Nuby bath thermometer in Amazon.

Sorely tempted to get our favoured cotbed from John Lewis but unfortunately it's only reduced by £20-odd 😠 Wondering if the New Year sales are likely to be any better.

PS Also - sorry for the double-post- what about baby monitors? I saw the discussion on Facebook about WiFi actually not being necessary, and I think some people recommended Hello Baby monitors.

This one's currently on offer on Amazon. Would this be worth a shot? Grateful for any advice x

Don't think that sounds ridiculous at all @EastLondonCoffeeFiend! Sounds very sensible. When tube stations and stairs are a daily issue, as they are for us, a lighter version sounds like a brilliant idea. I really liked the Joolz ones when we saw them in John Lewis, but we had to cross them off because my husband is so stupidly tall that he had to stoop to push them 🙄

CarrotySnack · 21/11/2024 14:28

This discussion about black friday things is super useful - thank you to @elb1504 for mentioning white noise machines (I have now bought the Tommee Tippee dreammaker which apparently makes 'pink noise' that's more womb-like and looks useful for making a reddish light that I hope might help keep me sleepy when I have to wake during the night).

I had rather optimistically decided to delay a baby monitor purchase, on the basis that we'll be in the same room as baby for the first six months of his life. Is that naive?! 😬Asking on behalf of my brain which cannot take another purchasing decision.

retrievermum · 21/11/2024 14:30

For monitors, if you’re thinking about having another baby when the first would be at the age where you’re still using a monitor (eg. our gap will be 20 months so we’ll still be using one with DD), I’d recommend researching them so you can have two cameras linked to one unit thing, if that makes sense? We have a KAWA one from Amazon and it can show two camera feeds at once so I don’t have to flick between them, which was harder to find than I’d anticipated!

UrbanSquirrel · 21/11/2024 14:39

Very much team 'one and only baby' here, re the monitors. Thank goodness - as @CarrotySnack says, that's one less thing to take into account! Feel I'm haemorrhaging money at the moment 😬

OP posts:
QuantumPanic · 21/11/2024 15:13

@CarrotySnack I'm not planning on getting a baby monitor at all. Like you say, I think someone's always going to be in the same room as the baby for the first six months. We also have a super tiny house so once we do start leaving her alone we will always be able to hear the baby crying. 🤷

apple67cherry · 21/11/2024 16:09

Hello. 28+4 today and had a growth scan. Baby boy is 3lb6oz already at 90th percentile. Glucose tolerance test on 29th Nov. does anyone know what this entails? I'm only small and petite weight and height and don't know anyone who's had GD 🥺

UrbanSquirrel · 21/11/2024 16:38

@apple67cherry Several of us have already been diagnosed with GD so you won't be alone, if you do end up with it ☺️

Were you asking what the test entails? You need to fast for 12 hours beforehand (just plain water) and then pop in to the hospital where they take a blood sample. They give you a pouch of a 'glucose drink' (mine tasted like orange squash) and you need to wait for two hours, after which they take another blood sample tomorrow see how well your body has broken down the glucose.

In my trust they call you the following day if you have GD; if you don't, you just discuss the results with your midwife next time you see her.

It's a bit of a pain having it (and trying to figure out what you can or can't eat, because everyone's different), but on the bright side you do get a lot more appointments out of it!

UrbanSquirrel · 21/11/2024 16:39

Sorry - *to see how well your body has broken down the glucose...

I'm on the app and can't edit!

Does anyone have any advice for back pain? I woke up this morning with one side of my back in total agony and paracetamol hasn’t touched it!
