Morning, hope your all well.

Just a question, I have just had a letter through the post about a growth scan for December. But I'm a little confused as I haven't had a midwife appointment yet since my 20 weeks scan. So don't know why they think I'll need one?

Anyone have any experience? Who can I ring to find out more as my midwife is on holiday till next week

Are you high risk or have any risk factors? Or consultant led? My notes say they'll want me to have a growth scan around 32 weeks.

We have a non emergency midwife number not sure if you have this or we can get through to the antenatal department at the hospital if you look on the hospital website and they may be able to advise why its been booked.

herewegoagain123456 · 28/10/2024 17:57

Thanks for all your replies.

28 week isn't a routine scan in my area.
I have a scan already booked at 32 weeks which I knew about.

I'm not high risk or anything and then this appointment came through completely randomly.
I have my 24 week midwife appointment in a couple of weeks, so I'll just ask them I think.

Panicked me at first, but ive calmed down now and just think it's a result I get an extra scan 🤞🏽🤞🏽

retrievermum · 28/10/2024 19:30

@herewegoagain123456 one of my friends ended up having fortnightly growth scans for absolutely no reason! There was just an admin error and then when she asked they told her they were booked now so she might as well just have them if she wanted them, so hopefully it’s a similar situation for you!

Lidlisthebusiness · 28/10/2024 14:28

@herewegoagain123456 ah OK, 28 weeks is a usual ultrasound appointment for all pregnant women. You should have a schedule in the front of your notes? Nothing to worry about, totally normal.

I don't think it is. The standard NHS offering is 12 and 20 weeks.

I have one at 28 weeks, another at 32, one at 36 at the final one at 41 weeks.ainly because I have a fibroid hunging outside my womb so they want to make sure the baby is growing accordingly and my tummy is not because of the fibroid and not the baby.

I'm low risk according to all the notes. But yeah, if you don't have anything it seems strange.

Btw, all the ladies with anterior placenta. Do you still feel the baby more strongly some days and others seems the baby is not as active? I had been paranoid the whole day as I felt her this morning (maybe 3/4 am) and the rest of the day I had few kicks (quite faint compared to other days) but noted her moving. The thing is she used to be a proper kicker and the fact that she's not as much makes me worry but as I have anterior placenta I feel that maybe she's turning around and she's facing my spine rather the tummy.
I had bad experience twice with same doctor in triage after the amniocentesis so, I am taking aback to call and go to the hospital as that doctor made feel like I was shit, tbh. :( what are your experiences?

retrievermum · 29/10/2024 21:28

@Piluka yes definitely! Mine has recently moved from a breech position to head down and I’ve worked out exactly where my placenta is because of it, kicks are a lot less violent when they’re head down because they’re kicking into my placenta!
At this stage, if you lie flat on your back and press and rub your belly, you might be able to feel baby’s spine which might reassure you that they’re just facing in so you can’t feel as much! As long as you’re feeling movement of some description, don’t panic! Remember we sometimes have lazy days, and so does baby :)

If you’re concerned baby isn’t moving as much, call triage and get seen. You’d speak to a midwife first who would take your worries about movement seriously, it’s something they’re trained to react to.

I’m sorry the doctor in triage wasn’t kind and made you feel like shit, but I wouldn’t let that deter you from getting the care you need.

Piluka · 30/10/2024 10:04

Thank you @retrievermum and @OrangeSlices998 for your comments you are stars!
I kept feeling her yesterday less than usual but when I arrived home and relaxed I could feel her kicks lots of times. Yesterday, while we were sorting her clothes and she was kicking now and then and made me feel very happy 😍 to know she was there with us telling what clothes she preferred. And today she has started the day with kicks and keeps kicking a lot. ❤️

Probably is what you said @retrievermum about moved position and she isn't bridge anymore. I need to try what you said.

Regarding triage, @OrangeSlices998 I know I shouldn't worry about that doctor, you are absolutely right, but the fact that both my partner and I are foreigners and we don't have any family here makes me feel a little bit vulnerable and alone with the pregnancy, so, a little bit of empathy from a doctor now and then would help. Because, at the end of the day if we go to triage is not because we are bored at home and wanted to gather attention is because we are worried about our baby. I don't know why she was so rude. Anyway, thanks for your words. ❤️❤️❤️

How many weeks were you at this stage?
There’s a big difference in how antenatal triage say 20 weeks and 30 weeks with reduced movements?
Early non established movement it’s important to check out but nowhere near as urgent or emergency a situation as say an established 34 week where there is an option for intervention?

I think one is seen as reassurance for you and the other has a more medical need - although that is no reassurance or help when you’re going through that situation.

Hello,
joining this group late . Little Aquarius due mid-Feb. Does anyone know if there is a location based WhatsApp group?
x

CarrotySnack · 30/10/2024 12:10

Hi @Oshton. There's a whatsapp (and a facebook group) but neither are location based.
I left the whatsapp group so can't help you with an invite link but someone might be able to (nothing wrong with it, I just hate my phone). That said, there was some discusison on the Whatsapp around accepting latecomers because of security concerns (baby photos etc).
The facebook group is here and is a nice space too https://www.facebook.com/groups/3766605586992946.
Finally, welcome! :)

UrbanSquirrel · 30/10/2024 14:40

Welcome @Oshton! Always lovely to have another Aquarian-to-be on board ☺️

@Piluka, I'm so sorry to hear the doctor wasn't very kind to you. That sounds really bad - but I agree with what's already been said: that they will take you more and more seriously as time goes on (though they should have done from the start!). Great that you have those extra checks to make sure that all is going well, though. I can't really comment on variety of movements, because although MiniSquirrel is now making little twitches every day, I have no idea whether there's a pattern or not 😂

Just a couple of extra points - has anyone else been called in for a birth options appointment? I've got one next week, so am getting ready to stick to my guns (I'm hoping for a planned C-section). But our local trust is very pro-maternal choice, so I'm hoping all will be smooth.

Plus I just wanted to say that I have been really impressed with the 3D imaging we had at a private scan at the weekend. I was inspired by Kirsty over on the Facebook group (Kirsty, I don't know if you're here too? I've lost track of who everyone is!). I'll admit that I always thought the 3D scans were a bit of a gimmick, but it was amazing to get our first glimpse of our little girl's face (even though she had her arm over it most of the time, awkward little thing).

Highly recommended in case anyone was wondering about an extra private scan (like others here, I'm currently not slated to have any further NHS scans, and 39/40 weeks seems like an age away).

Here is MiniSquirrel looking very contemplative.

Ah that's a lovely scan, her little nose is so cute 😊

We have our 4d one on Sunday but with an anterior placenta and a naughty little boy who had me have 3 scans for my 20 week scan i'm not hopeful!

superj21 · 30/10/2024 14:51

Awww @UrbanSquirrel what a fab pic! Looks like she's got some little chubby cheeks already ❤️! What a cutie!

No birth options appointment here - I've not even heard anything like that mentioned! I've got a scan in a few weeks to check my placenta and a consultant appointment after that, then a midwife appt at 28 weeks. I'm assuming it's not an important one though because she told me we could cancel it since I was seeing the consultant the week before.

superj21 · 30/10/2024 14:52

@Pepsix potentially a silly question but what's the difference between 3D and 4D scans ? Is it just better quality ?

UrbanSquirrel · 30/10/2024 14:53

@Pepsix Another awkward one?! 😂 They do give you a chance to walk up and down and jump around a bit if baby isn't playing ball. Though you may have a similar experience to me - I was hopping around like a lunatic in the hope she'd move her arm, only to go back and find she had stuck her foot over her face too.

Good luck!!! Do share the picture if you feel comfortable doing so. It is so weird to see all of our little blobs developing into actual little people...

I may well have got this wrong - they included a 'movie' (ie speeded up record of the scan screen) which might be the 4D part?

But hopefully @Pepsix will have the authoritative answer.

Definitely not a silly question, my understanding is that 3D are 'still' images where 4D is a "live" image so more like a video if that makes sense?

superj21 · 30/10/2024 15:04

Awww @Pepsix that'll be amazing 🥲!

Redapple21 · 30/10/2024 17:14

Wow @UrbanSquirrel what a gorgeous photo 🥰 sooo cute xx

ridl14 · 30/10/2024 19:21

Very cute 4D scan!!

We had one at 17 weeks which we weren't expecting but LO was giving a thumbs up 😂 and had very sharp cheekbones!

Is anyone else getting intense hunger lately? It's not necessarily meaning I eat more (some days it is) but that I need to eat NOW.

Last night we ordered food for about 8.30 as DH was working late (from home) and I was shattered. We have a very common street name (eg "London Road"), so there is more than one of its name in our city and prob across the UK. Correct address put into order, inc postcode. The Deliveroo driver called and said he couldn't find our house, was told he'd gone to the wrong address somehow which was only 10 mins away. DH called him back over 10 mins later having heard nothing and the driver said he wasn't delivering as our address was too far away (we've ordered from this place a few times, no issues). I've never felt so hangry 😥 luckily the replacement came earlier than expected but still around 9pm!

Also is anyone else "blooming"? I had a week out of work over the half term and have had everyone telling me how big I look now! Baby must be having a growth spurt (24w tomorrow!)

UncharteredWaters · 30/10/2024 20:21

@ridl14 lol we still haven’t told very many people I’m pregnant and so far few have guessed!!
most people have commmented that I’m loosing weight 😂
we have a holiday next week and I think I might just ‘bloom’ whilst we are away and come back huge!

Piluka · 31/10/2024 06:26

@UrbanSquirrel what a lovely little girl you have ❤️❤️❤️❤️ it's a pity she wasn't collaborating in the process, but at least you had that picture. Btw, thanks for your words! 😘

I haven't heard anything about options regarding birth.... I'm not sure about what I would like, initially a C section seems well planed (x day at x hour. Done it).

Lidlisthebusiness · 31/10/2024 10:28

I've never heard of a birth choice appointment, but the only option I have this time is induction or section, unless I go in to labour naturally 3 weeks early! I'll be being induced.
