Hey, I'm 24wks today. Still anxiety ridden about things at time. Just wanting to know, have you found your kicks feel weaker at times? I'm not sure if it's because baby has moved up and more padding around stomach area than when they were kicking lower down. Like I can still feel movement inside, but not really outside this past few days.

Hello, I'm 23+4 and my little one has had me in triage twice due to reduced movement and as soon as they put the Doppler on he started kicking away! it definitely could just be the position. Try an iced cold sugary drink, some fizzy sweet, laying on your back. Triage told me my bub had moved to right side and I'm used to feeling him on the left so could well be why I wasn't feeling him!

superj21 · 17/10/2024 10:54

@TTCagain85 some days I feel a lot of movement, others (like yesterday) I have basically nothing. Got a few little wriggles last night after spending ages trying to get him to move! I'm trying not to let myself get too worried as it's still so early (23+3) and he's probably kicking about, I just can't feel it (supported by lots of kicks this morning 😊).

It's so hard not to worry and feel anxious though. I think the fact that you are still feeling something is positive - I've had days with nothing at all.

Mine are definitely on and off some days stronger than others but they still have the space to move around so may find they're facing a different way now.

I had a scan last week and baby was kicking and bouncing up and down on my cervix and I couldn't feel any of that. The sonographer said they have quite a bit of room still so they change position quite a lot which can be why things feel different day to day.

QuantumPanic · 17/10/2024 11:26

@TTCagain85 Congratulations on 24 weeks!!

Monday Tuesday this week my baby was pretty quiet and yes, the kicks felt weaker than previously. I think it's exactly as you say - she's moved upwards and my stomach fat is cushioning things. I also wonder if there's a bit less room to really stretch the legs/arms, so there's a bit less impact to the movements? Baby could also be facing your back. Nothing I did (drinking something cold and sweet, prodding, etc.) made the kicks any stronger. Wednesday I could feel her lower down again and she was back to thumping me from the inside all day.

It's really hard to not be very paranoid about any small changes. Hopefully your baby will get some strong, reassuring hits in soon.

TTCagain85 · 17/10/2024 11:49

Thanks for the responses. I'm still feeling movement, but more in the flabby stomach area now than lower down lol I can also feel the sensation of twisting, so do believe they are wriggling about it there. I felt more kicks lying down last night, perhaps as it flattened my flabby bits 🤣 have a scan on Tueaday with consultant, so will mention it then.

CarrotySnack · 17/10/2024 13:00

My movements are still variable depending on what I'm up to, but are in a loose pattern. But it is true that the Pregnancy assessment unit will never mind checking you out if you are worried. Interestingly my midwife said some people never get a stable pattern and end up at the PAU all the time!

Piluka · 17/10/2024 13:32

Same here (23+4). Some days I feel her as I had Jackie chan inside and others she's super quiet. I have to say, at lunch time she tends to be more active just before going for my lunch (I think she's telling me she's hungry) and as some have said, whatever I eat or do not always helps to get her move more or feel her better. Sometimes she's stubborn (as me i guess) and doesn't want to beat me up from inside leaving me a bit worried (who'd have said that feel someone kicking you would be so reassuring, hahaha)

Hopefully, your baby would be stronger and kicking you more strongly soon.

retrievermum · 17/10/2024 13:54

@CarrotySnack that’s exactly what happened with me in my last pregnancy, she never established a regular pattern and I was at PAU all the time! I was never ever made to feel stupid for going in etc either which is good!
I’m 24+5 today and have so far only been to PAU twice, which is good going as far as I’m concerned haha!

Kumquat89 · 18/10/2024 08:49

I don’t remember if anyone asked this already. I started slowly shopping a few baby clothes (it’s unbelievable really I could hold myself so long -everything is so cute) and I’m wondering how many layers baby needs in February. Long sleeved bodies and another layer on top and a sweater and a coat? 🤔

8weekscrossed · 18/10/2024 09:15

Morning ladies, how is everyone?

I had my fetal med scan yesterday following the 20 week scan and my baby has an echogenic bowel, so I’ve had to have bloods done to rule out the more serious causes. Trying not to get worried as a lot of positive stories out there. Xx

Lidlisthebusiness · 18/10/2024 10:46

@Kumquat89 the general advice is for baby to wear one more layer than you would be wearing. I'd probably go for bodysuit, outfit, coat or snowsuit depending on the weather and a blanket.

8weekscrossed · 18/10/2024 14:41

@apple67cherry @retrievermum can I ask, have you been seen already for reduced movements? I was under the impression that they don’t see you until a lot later on due to patterns still emerging etc and some not feeling kicks until newer 24 weeks?

our MAU are very good, but it’s nice to know I can call earlier on if I am concerned. Although, I have an anterior placenta so definately not got a pattern yet!

Piluka · 18/10/2024 15:33

@8weekscrossed I've researched and it says 'can be a normal finding that disappears before birth with no adverse short or long-term outcomes' so hopefully it's gonna go. 🤞🤞 Obviously, get all the checks done but don't worry too much!

8weekscrossed · 18/10/2024 15:36

Thank you @Piluka i sure hope that’s the case here. But when they start talking about CF, Downs etc it is a bit scary 🥹 x

retrievermum · 18/10/2024 20:07

@8weekscrossed yep, I went to PAU at (I think) 17 weeks and again at 21. They just listened in with a Doppler both times (it’s more a reassurance thing at that stage but if they couldn’t find the heartbeat with the Doppler they’d do a scan), but if something was wrong with baby at that stage they’d not be able to do anything to save them.

In my area, from 24 weeks onwards (viability week really), if you go in for reduced movements, they strap you to the monitor (CTG) to get a more thorough picture of what’s going on; I think some areas are 26 weeks for this.

I’ve got an anterior placenta too but please still ring if you’re worried at all! As I said to the midwife when I went in at 17 weeks, rationally I know it was because of where my placenta is, and how little baby was at that stage, but once it’s in your head, it’s in your head, and she totally agreed and got me to come in whenever it was convenient for me!

8weekscrossed · 18/10/2024 20:15

Thank you @retrievermum, I’m glad they took you seriously when you went in.

I do feel baby, but not every day. I am not concerned though but will certainly make sure I keep an eye. The midwives in my trust suggest from 24 weeks.

🥰

I've been seen twice at 21+6 and 23+1

UrbanSquirrel · 20/10/2024 09:44

Hello everyone, just checking in. Glad to hear that the maternity triage units have been welcoming and reassuring to everyone. I guess I'll be in there at some point 😉

25 weeks tomorrow and I think I may be feeling Madam twitching around on occasion but she's still playing it cool. No obvious movement as such yet, let alone any kind of rhythm, but there we go. Her heartbeat was lovely and strong at the 24-week midwife check and she's apparently measuring on the 90th percentile at present (this is what I get for marrying a man who's 6'8"). So I assume she's just directing all her aggression into my anterior placenta...

@8weekscrossed Just wanted to say good luck with the blood results.

@Kumquat89 About the clothes, yes, I have now caved. I've spent the last two days down a Vinted rabbit hole and, God, they have some lovely stuff. I'm really hoping the NIPT didn't get the sex wrong 🤣

How's prep going for everyone else? We had our John Lewis appointment on Thursday and tried out all the prams - a good thing too since DH is so absurdly tall and most are too small for him. Found a Nuna Mixx bundle on Facebook marketplace and picked it up yesterday, so we're feeling very accomplished 😜 x

Kumquat89 · 20/10/2024 10:16

@UrbanSquirrel 😂 good for you! Looks very sleek this Nina Mixx one. Us we are getting one of those off road ones that look like a tractor fully equipped from my brother in law- really grateful and suppose it’s what we need as we live on a farm but oh I’m expecting it will look awkward on city walks 🤭

It’s quite reassuring that you started feeling little movements now. It went really fast for me from little movements to more pronounced ones. You’ll probably have the same in the next couple of weeks.

UrbanSquirrel · 20/10/2024 10:23

@Kumquat89 Yes the one we got is apparently OK for a bit of off-roading but yours sounds very sensible! Am so envious that your baby will get to live on a farm. I grew up in a small village surrounded by farms, but life is now very suburban, and I feel rather sad that our little one won't have that close relationship with nature and animals. Will have to seek out a city farm!!!

@UrbanSquirrel while I know we are told there is no need to worry, I would be just like you and unable not to worry endlessly. If it's at all reassuring, alllll my feelings have been just where an anterior placenta would be, so I'm amazed anyone with an anterior placenta feels anything at all! You probably know this, as it's googleable, but I get most of mine when I'm really relaxed, leaning back slightly, maybe having just eaten (or if I get hungry), just spoken, and quietly in noticing mode.

I'm just catching up so I also missed the conversation about bladders. If it helps anyone, the pelvic floor book I bought suggests ignoring what is often said about 10-second repeats of holding the pelvic floor, because these don't really strengthen the muscles. Instead, do what you would do for any other strengthening muscle workout: namely hold that pelvic floor for as long as you can, until the muscles start to get exhausted - you can tell when this happens because they just sort of start to lose the plot. In a way it's easier as you're not counting to ten, or using an app, you're just sat at your desk/sofa holding on and on and on, once a day. The book is Stronger by Megan Vickers, and it's amazingly good if you don't mind detail.

Thank you so much for the pelvic floor recommendation!! Sorry I'm late catching up but I so appreciate everyone who replied and made me feel less alone, thank you. I've been referring to a pelvic floor therapist through the GP apparently but haven't heard anything back yet

Scan was all good 🥰
Got another one at 32 weeks just to be safe with my history and my placenta is Abit unusual but the consultant isn't worried.

I would describe some of the kicks like inside farts 🤣

I think some kicks feel like inside farts!! 😂 Kind of aquatic? I said to DH I almost wonder some of the time if I can feel the baby peeing in me or something because it feels like a little watery whoosh, like if someone pushed their hand fast through water, (or peed / broke wind in the bath!)

Baby boy is so active which is amazing at reassuring my anxiety but I just think oh dear... Definitely not a sleeper! I was an awful sleeper as a baby and DH has always been obsessed with sleep. I think the baby is going to take after DH in every other way except this very useful sleep one!

Kumquat89 · 20/10/2024 11:11

@ridl14 aquatic farts 🤣😂🤣 i swear I could feel something like this yesterday. Kind of like a tiny pump inside my uterus. I was actually wondering if it’s hiccups 🤔 have no clue how things are supposed to feel yet.

Kumquat89 · 20/10/2024 11:22

@UrbanSquirrel I know, I do feel very lucky. Didn’t grow up here but it does seem ideal for children. You must have really cherished memories from your village. I suppose I should put effort in the opposite direction to you though and make sure the little one has social interactions and is exposed to the buzz of a city too. Also very important.
