Could it be a miscarriage?

I just went to the toilet and well it wasn't really blood but a light pink(Very very light) discharge on the tissue. I have no pain at all and feel normal.

Am I worrying about nothing? Could it just be normal pregnancy discharge?

Hi kayzisexpecting, I had this on and off through most of my last pregnancy. I was really worried too as I have had 2 mc in the past. I mentioned to the midwife and she didn't see any cause for concern. How far on are you?

I would mention it yes, I think her advice will probably be not to overdo it and put your feet up so do that if its possible. I know its hard not to worry but try not to

Yes definately - you can get an early scan if you are worried - i did with my 2DSs.

Pinky with DS1 and bright red spotting with DS2 - both fine.

Is it possible for you to take it easy and put your feet up today?

I don't have anything planned for today so thats good but I just have ds to look after. I'll get dh to take over when he gets home from work.

I had this with DD1 and it didn't mean anything. If you go to the Early Preg Unit, they may not scan you yet as you are too early for a heartbeat. What would probably happen is that you would have blood taken and then be asked to come back for further tests in 48 hours to see what your HCG levels are. If all is well, they should be doubling. This is quite a lot of faff though and light pink spotting is quite normal in early pg, so I'd be tempted to sit tight and wait til Wed unless anything changes. MW may well book you in for early scan when you tell her, but if you go to EPU today you will no doubt be sitting around for ages which with DS in tow is not fun.

I don't think there is an EPU anywhere near here anyway. I think that unless I get any blood I will just wait until Wednesday. I just wish I had the number of the midwife so I could just ring and see what she says.

Can she be contacted via your GPs surgery?

Oh dear, could you try ringing the GP surgery to get a tel no for the MW? Or just ring the labour ward and speak to a MW there. I did that a lot after DD2 born.

I dont know what the labour ward would say. I cant really get there to be checked over.

I don't think you need to go there, just talk to one of the MWs. They are used to women phoning up with queries and if it will set your mind at rest, I think it's worth doing.

Realistically, it's a 50% chance this early. Red blood is a bad sign, brown blood not so much. I'm not sure about pink, it could be a precursor to fresh blood or it could be nothing. best to go to the GP and have your hormone levels tested. Good luck xxxxxxx

I found out there is an EPU at Scarborough. I rang them and they said it is an implantation bleed. Its very very common apparently and she said that what I described sounds exactly like an implantation bleed and that she had it too.

Don't mean to be negative but how can it be an implantation bleed at 5.5 weeks? That means baby implanted about 1.5 weeks ago, That just doesn't sound right. Implantation bleed occurs at about 4 weeks (about 2 weeks after conception) if it happens at all, about the time you would have had a period.
Ok I prob should shut up as I'm prob worrying you but if I were you I'd go to the GP anyway.

My pregnancy books say that implantation occurs between 5 and 7 weeks as the baby has to travel down the fallopian tubes before it implants.

I'll mention it to the MW on Wednesday.

Initial implantation into the womb occurs 1 to 2 weeks after conception, but implantation continues for a while later and this is why you may get an implatation bleed at 5 or 6 weeks.

Kayzis - you should definitely see your GP or go to your EPU because all bleeding in pregnancy needs to be checked out even though in many cases it's nothing too serious.

That doesn't make sense, unless I've got it totally wrong.
Week 0 - LMP
Week 2 - conception
embryo takes 7 - 14 days to travel down fallopian tubes so
Week 4 - implants
You could possibly see blood a few days after implanting, 4.5 weeks, however it CAN'T be 5-7 weeks, as that would mean it takes 3 - 5 weeks to travel down the fallopians. That doesn't make sense intuitively and contradicts everything I've ever read.
But I really will shut up now as I feel Like I'm trying to persuade you out of this which is not fair. i just don't want you to be disappointed. I was reassured when I had a bleed by the GP and EPU and it came as a massive shock when it was a mc, as I really wasn't expecting it, from what the professionals had said. I would have preferred to be prepared but that's just me. xxx

Yes, jst thought that you should mention it anyway in case you need Anti D if you are Rh Neg.
