@HereAtlonglast congrats! Similar here DS born 3rd Aug and my birth plan kinda went out the window due to my ICP levels. But all that matters is your both doing ok.

DS was weighed today and he only lost 0.2% of his birth weight 20g!!!!! He is a really good feeder and nurses well. Henis nursing every 3-3.5hrs.

Nocoffeenotalkie · 08/08/2024 11:20

Congratulations for all the new babies!
My DD is 3 weeks today and well...sleeping anywhere other than on me or on my bed is not going well. She seems fast asleep (noodle arms etc) put her in the crib and leave my hand on her for slow pressure release. She wakes immediately and is very angry, flailing and crying, kicking etc.
If I don't get to sleep in the day, nights are super stressful because I'm scared I will drop her. She's bf but isn't feeding loads in the night just 2x now at around 12:30 and 3. If I can get her to sleep in her crib, it'll be amazing!
We use love2dream swaddles too

MixedCouple2 · 08/08/2024 17:50

@Nocoffeenotalkie we are heading your way. DS is only 5days old but at night time he likes to nurse and sleep.
Today I have been nursing him every 2 hours in the daytime so hopefully he doesn't need as much as night and will sleep longer stretches. He was doing 3.5hrs at night but last night he was up every 45mins to feed. Growth spurts are coming as well......

I find nursing makes me super relaxed and drowsy I just want to sleep but I can't while sat upright. Might have to try nurse side laying if this is how we are heading with sleep.

Bali200 · 08/08/2024 18:46

@Nocoffeenotalkie my DD is also 3 weeks old today and wouldn’t settle at all last night and today she’s the same. She had been doing 2.5-3 hour stretches in her crib in between feeds but now she’ll only do 10-20 minutes before screaming blue murder and is feeding every 40 mins. Hoping it’s a 3 week growth spurt and that it passes soon 🙏🏼

Morningcoffeeaddict · 09/08/2024 09:49

@Bali200 @Nocoffeenotalkie - right with you both on the 3 week growth spurt. Midwife was here yesterday and just said “sounds normal” but the 2 hours total sleep three nights in a row is destroying me! In laws have just arrived to take the boys for 2 hours so I can get some rest thank goodness. Hoping we all get some proper sleep soon!

missmoosh · 09/08/2024 13:06

Oh thank god it’s not just me! Little one is 3 weeks Sunday and contact naps are the only thing to settle her. Put her down and the eyes ping open! Had a full meltdown this morning that DH took the brunt off. Lots of tears and lots of I’m sorries later, I’m lucky he’s understanding 😂

Outliers · 09/08/2024 13:33

My now 2week old only does a couple stretches a day in the moses basket.

It's particularly hard at night. Frustrating but I'm trying to be more flexible this time around and just go with the flow.

I've succumbed to wearing the carrier. Only thing that allows me to be active and manage toddler simulating.

AnonymousXXIX · 09/08/2024 18:25

We had two very messy nights but then the night before last was better. Alas, last night baby was up every half hour since 4am again 🫠 And toddler marches in at 7am without fail and has an absolute meltdown when we suggest mummy needs to sleep more. Hope that growth spurt end soon because I'm dead! Have had more coffee than recommended while bf, and have resorted to a glass of wine tonight too 😅

Nocoffeenotalkie · 10/08/2024 08:15

Not just us then! Thank you for sharing. It can feel like everyone's baby is in the cribs whereas I'm up all night holding mine!
She didn't wake to feed at all last night (she fed alllllllll day!) but whenever I put her in the crib she fussed and cried until I picked her up then immediately fell sleep. She just wanted a cuddle. I ended up with her on my bed no covers/pillows side lying next to her so I could rest without dropping her. I really don't want to co-sleep. I'm so scared of it!

Amberellaella · 10/08/2024 10:24

Yeah, mine (5.5 weeks) is not a crib fan either… He naps on me or in the sling during the day. I’m lucky that he does go in the snuzpod at night, but only for short stretches. He did three hours last night for the first time and I feel like a new woman today!

MixedCouple2 · 10/08/2024 15:59

@Outliers I have 2 woven wraps ready for when baby "wakes up".
8days today and DS is still super chill. A bit too much! He is hard to wake up for feeds and he doesn't nurse very long. I spend ages trying to wake him up - nappy changes are the only thing that works.
He lost 0.2% of his birth weight so he is feeding well m when he does feed but not often. I am not sure what to think as DS1 was nursing all the time especially at night time. He used to be up every 45-90 mins to nurse and immediately need a nappy change. DS2 so far the complete opposite 🤪 and it has taken me aback.
Last night I nursed him at 9pm, 1am and then 4am. All 3 times I had to wake him up and it took me aaaaaages.
I keep expecting it to change. I am sure it will week 2/3.

HereAtlonglast · 12/08/2024 04:47

Thank you @AnonymousXXIX and @MixedCouple2

up doing nighttime cluster feeds. Surviving on snippets of 40 minutes sleep. I’ve also got a flow thats too fast for her so caused lots of tummy issues but I think it’s settling/we’re getting hang of it now. I stand in solidarity with everyone here struggling with sleep and feeding

Have you tried to do relaxed layed back nursing. I have a fast forceful flow and DS was choking. So i lean far back and do tummy to tummy and that has made a difference. It also a good position for deeper latch. Babies will temd to have shallow latch with forceful flow.

Look up natural breastfeeding by Nancy Mohrbacher.

Hello everyone!!!
It's been a while but I hope you're all doing well!

Congratulations @HereAtlonglast !! Hope you and little one are doing well! 💖

DS just turned a month on the 7th and I can't believe I've survived. Ohhh boy..
His sleep cycle has changed a lot, over the past few weeks and we have been trying to adapt.
I've Attached an image of his sleep pattern. The green parts are how long he slept and the pink highlight is his wake time. He barely sleeps 40 min in the day, and around 1.5 hours at a time at night.

His longest wake time has been around 8 hours at a stretch. I'm powering through it. DH has let me sleep mostly at night.

I'm also giving him a lot of tummy massages. I'm so scared he will get colic. He's already showing some signs.

HereAtlonglast · 13/08/2024 08:55

Thank you @ceruleansky

thank you @MixedCouple2 we tried it once and neither of us liked it. But that was a few days ago so I might try again today. Lying on my side rather than sitting up seems to work better for her, she gulps less but still isn’t perfect. Oh thank you for that recommendation. I’ll check Nancy out.

MixedCouple2 · 13/08/2024 09:22

@ceruleansky oh my those times are hectic. I remember DS1 being the same with naps. It is so hard. All the best in the coming weeks it will get better.
Have you tried baby wearing.

Jess725 · 14/08/2024 11:33

Hey everyone just popped in to see how you are all doing! It’s such hard work isn’t it but I think we all deserve a well done with all this sleep deprivation!

also in the midst of working out baby girls sleep. She really struggles to eat with her tongue tie and so I’m expressing milk about 10 times a day. If I’m not expressing I’m feeding her or trying to bring up super bad wind, hope the tongue tie assessment goes ok and magically fixes it 😬

thinking of you all x

AnonymousXXIX · 14/08/2024 21:36

My baby also has way more wind than the last, no idea why! There's no obvious reason. Writing this as I pray the baby goes to sleep, as yesterday we were up till 11pm in a cycle of breastfeeding and burping. And then every 1-2 hours all night too.

Struggling with sleep a lot because of my toddler. Baby tends to be really awake between 6am and 8am, and toddler gets up around 8am when baby goes back to sleep, so I'm basically up at 6 every day. Starting to really feel it now.

DH and my mum are no help either, complaining about being tired and doing chores, and complaining about each other! And neither is willing to get up at 6am with the baby, ofc. Really need them because omg my toddler is a handful, but also I feel like they're not otherwise actually helping with the things I need help with + really don't want them ruining my lovely baby bubble 😢

Morningcoffeeaddict · 15/08/2024 13:04

@AnonymousXXIX same here with the baby up frequently at night and then big brother coming in as he finally goes to sleep for a longer stretch around 6am. Would love that little bit longer in bed but DH leaves for work at 7 so it’s just the three of us in the morning. Fingers crossed for a lie in at the weekend!

MixedCouple2 · 15/08/2024 18:41

@Jess725 all the best with the assessment. And your a super mum to express x10 plus nursing. This will be a distant memory soon.

@AnonymousXXIX oh dear your DH and Mum sound a but useless there. You'd think they were the ones who had a baby. I hope they get their act together.

DS is 12 days old and has been waking up slowly more and more each day. He is 8lbs 12oz and super tall. Already in 0-3 months. He is much easier then DS1 who had silent reflux and was an awful napper and eating all hours of the day and night.
My Midwife said I was good to stop waking him at night and let him cl the shots. Just to nurse on demand. He wakes 1 or 2 times a night to nurse. But I keep expecting things to change around 2/3 week mark.

My DS1 was sleeping until 8am when my parents were here and now they have gone he is getting up 6:30am - 7am. And DH is due to go back on Monday 😭

wannabe123 · 15/08/2024 20:14

@MixedCouple2 same here about 0-3 months clothing - although he's been in it since birth.

The little man is now 5 weeks old. He doesn't seem to nap consistently during the day and can be awake for 4-5 hours at a time. At night, he usually goes down by about 9-10 and then will do a nice stretch of a 5 hours-ish.
DH goes back to work next week and I'm dreading getting the toddler up and ready for nursery while also getting myself and baby ready.

AnonymousXXIX · 17/08/2024 01:33

@wannabe123 I wouldn't expect any nap pattern the first 3-4 months! And yeah mine can do a good 3 hours awake already as well.

Best stretch of sleep here so far has been 3 hours. Waiting for the magical 4+..

Amberellaella · 17/08/2024 03:48

Ladies, I just had the mythical four hour stretch! Mind you it did take me two hours to get him down! My little blob is also extra gassy @AnonymousXXIX, I’ve been trying lots of things to help and am currently doing a dairy free diet (me) and only feeding him from one boob at a time… I keep meaning to try Colief but it takes a bit of advance planning which is obviously not happening 😂 anyone got any suggestions other than 20 mins upright post feed, feeding with head higher than tummy, baby wearing as much as poss, gripe water, infacol and reflux meds?

wannabe123 · 17/08/2024 05:32

@AnonymousXXIX definitely right about nap patterns 😊 I'm just surprised he is awake for so long at a time - I don't remember my first being this awake so young!

@Amberellaella I know it probably didn't help but apparently infacol and similar products have been proven to not actually do anything. Lucy Weber on Instagram has some good posts about gassy babies and normal infant behaviour. They can be really grunty - particularly at night - and sound really uncomfortable but it's just their digestive system getting used to things. I hope you find something that helps 😊
