Does anyone not "feel pregnant" at nearly 19weeks?

this may sound weird but now the sickness has stopped I dont "feel" pregnant. this is #2 and had a really rough 9 months with DS. this time i dont feel ill or too tired, i have a bit of a bump but i am 19 weeks and never really got a flat stomach after DS. i dont have any real movements yet - the odd flutter that is sort of like wind.

i know i'm just being paranoid and hormonal as i have no reason to think the baby isnt doing fine (no bleeding, pains etc etc) but i just dont feel pregnant

is this normal?

I feel very much like that and Im 19 weeks too. Strange thing is though I am so ill when pregnant - am still being sick several times a day, off nearly all foods, exhausted etc. But I still forget/dont realise im pregnant!

Maybe its different the second time around? I just dont have time to think about the baby as Im too busy with DS. Perhaps its because we've been there and done this before so our brains just know whats happening and dont make a big deal out of it? Its just not as exciting this time around? Also no one else is excited either - most barely mention the pregnancy so its not on my mind all the time. This time round I dont have any pregnancy books, dont spend time on me resting "because im pregnant" - instead lug things about lol.

I am feeling stronger kicks now the last few days after those fluttery feelings and they freak me out because I wonder what they are! Then I suddenly realise, freak out when I work out how many weeks are left til I have to cope with another (!) and then promptly forget again.

I dont have much of a bump either - just gone into maternity jeans mainly because they are comfy but my trousers still fit. When I lie down in bed in the morning I can now feel a little hard bump and people tell me my bump is definitely there but I just feel fat!!

So no you are not alone. Im just hoping this hits me a bit more before I give birth and then wander off without the baby!

xxx

I was starting to feel really paranoid too.
Been wanting to post all day. I am 20 weeks with my 2nd. Have a dd who is 14 month. I am hardly feeling anything at all just like fluttering but am convinced its just wind as that seems to follow.
My last pregnancy by 20 weeks she was kicking the hell out of me and was clearly visible to DH.
I hardly have a bump this time some days it expands and then shrinks again
I have had 3 episodes of brown bloody discharge (very small amount) which is worrying me. sorry if tmi. I have my scan tuesday so hopefully will have piece of mind then.

fledtoscotland · 13/04/2008 21:17

no1putsbabyinthecorner - am sure your scan will be fine on tuesday. mine is on the 22nd. i know what you mean with the kicks. by this time DS was booting me so hard it hurt. he kind of missed the "fluttering butterflies" stage with him.

it upset me today as a colleague i havent seen in ages who didnt know i was pregnant again jokingly said when was i going to loose my baby weight from last time - i still feel fat rather than nearly 5 months gone!

i also know what you mean about no-one really being interested. DS is so cute and outgoing the family are focused on him. he also takes up all my time so between him and work, i havent got a chance to relax.

cant wait til my scan to reassure me there is a baby in there instead of just chocolate

Thankyou fledtoscotland.
People can be really insensitive with there comments.
A few of my friends who I hadnt seen for a while said they didnt want to mention my pregnanacy as they thought I had lost it due to not looking as big as they did at 20 weeks.
My Dh keeps reassuring me that no two pregnancies are the same.

Also maybe were not as focused on every tiny detail like last time because we are so busy
with little ones.

I too have been mad with chocolate this time round, and curry
I think we may find a little onion bhaji in there

fledtoscotland · 14/04/2008 09:14

i hope you dont see an onion bhaji tomorrow! however i think i may see a gerkin (cold out of the fridge)!

even though this pregnancy is far easier than with DS, i'm not really enjoying it as much as DS is taking up all my time and sleep is just something other people get.

I'm 19+4 and I don't feel at all pregnant either, not tired or ill, I do have a bump but not massive, it's far more fat than anything else. I am just taking this part as the lull before the storm.

Nelli32 · 14/04/2008 09:37

Hi there - Just wanted to add that I am 19 weeks this friday with my first and I don't feel pregnant at all!! I have had a breeze so far and been really lucky - no sickness , not even tired really. A little indegestion at night and the odd headache but thats all. As for my tummy - I desperately want to show for all the world to see but I have a tiny bump which also looks more like fat then anything else!! I am not stick thin or overweight either so no excuse there!!
I think I have felt the odd little movement but can't be sure as I'm not sure what it feels like so could just be wind for all I know. I did buy a fetal heart monitor at 12 wks which I would recommend to anyone, I tend to have a quick listen in the evenings before I go off to sleep. Its lovely to hear the heartbeat and all the whooshing sounds of the baby turning etc.. Its nice for my husband to listen to aswell.

I am so excited!! Has anyone bought any bits yet? I am dying to but keep putting off incasae I tempt fate - Is that silly? We have our 20 wk scan in 2 weeks so maybe after that!?
Congrats to everyone xx

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 14/04/2008 10:07

I'm the same. Had major freak out over the weekend (but I had a mmc at exactly this point 2 years ago so...) I have a bump, when I stand up, but if I lie down it just looks like flabbiness! I no longer feel sick, or tired, and my food aversions have gone, I'm even craving the fags again now, and I thought I'd got over that! I am having the odd drink and when I have one I want more! I don't feel preg physically so it's hard to remember I am! Lol. I suppose we should be grateful that we feel so well, as once the bumps get bigger we are gonna feel rubbish! xxx

vicsta · 14/04/2008 13:25

I really do hope all your worries are unfounded and good luck to you all BUT I'm so bloody jealous hmmmph!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 14/04/2008 16:13

lol at the gerkin
Congratulations nelli32 on your 1st pregnancy.
I must admit after my 20 week scan last time I did buy a few bits. Obviously bought neutral colours but also a mad moment in monsoon on a cute girls cardigan, hat, mitts etc...
It turned out to be a girl, would have looked cute on my nieces doll if not

I agree we should enjoy the small bump as we will probably be moaning soon enough that we feel huge.

Vicsta thankyou and fingers crossed for you if your ttc

MummyToOneForNow · 14/04/2008 16:16

I'm the same - am 17 weeks and with running around after dd (16 mths) and working part time I keep forgetting I'm pregnant. Have only put on about 4 lbs and still just in normal trousers (though definitely looking a bit fatter! No movements yet - I think that is when I will become more concious of it...

WombFor1More · 14/04/2008 16:31

I am 16wks and have been feeling exactly the same too! Suppose running around after other 3 lo's takes most my time so kind of forget most the time. Have been worrying about it for last few days though but today had mw appointment, all is fine and heard hb, so much relief there!!

I think a lot of ladies must feel like this so I'd say it's perfectly normal

vicsta · 14/04/2008 17:07

Thanks Very Much No1PBITC, but am already 33wks. Am V jealous of your lack of sickness/tubiness etc. I really hoped (if thats the right word, REALLY don't want to make light of peoples worries),that thats how it'd be for me. Unfortunately, I've felt like crap since 6wks and really, I'm not a whingy person at all - more a get a grip & get on with it type - but these pregnancy side effects have FLOORED me. Had a brief respite 22ish-26ish wks of not puking, and have looked like a beeched whale since about 14 wks. Now I can barely get off the settee without a hoist. That said, this is my 1st and I'm sure that if I had other lo's to look after, perhaps I wouldn't be so indulgent in my whinging.

vicsta · 14/04/2008 17:15

Nellie32, finished last message B4 responding to you, sorry. I waited till 20wk scan before buying anything at all and didn't buy anything big i.e. cot, pram till 28wks. Bought my first babygro straight after scan tho & have picked up small items every week since. It soon mounts up. Think we probably are a bit silly in thinking the worst without reason, but I think most people feel the same. Good luck for the scan and permission to spend!

mumofdjandbabies · 14/04/2008 17:18

I'm 19 weeks and feel and look like a big fat bloater who's been eating a LOT of pies.

I'm grumpy today because it's 9.30pm and I've not had a wash today, every time I look in the mirror all I see are white hairs, my crap maternity jeans keep falling down and I've got sodding ACNE!

WTF?

However, do have better days, and it's bliss now I'm not running to the bog in the mornings and shouting, "Mummy's a bit poorly!" to my DD in between retches. Sorry if TMI...!

Have to keep remembering there's a little bean in there! Fetal heart monitor sounds like a great idea - lovely image of Nellie32 being lulled to sleep by the LO!

Nelli32 · 15/04/2008 08:10

StarlightMcKenzie - Would love to join the september thread - think I'm going mad cause I can't find it!!!!

WombFor1More · 15/04/2008 08:32

Nellie - If you click onto Mumsnet discussions the on the lists it is top right, ante-natal clubs, it is in there.

See you there

Nelli32 · 15/04/2008 08:55

Thanks wombfor1more!

AHLH · 15/04/2008 10:23

I'm 19 weeks today with first and invested in maternity clothes at the week end. Old trousers still fit, but really pinch. Big scary jersey panels and elasticated waists have made me feel pregnant! I lost lots of weight due to hyperemisis a few weeks ago, so bump is really quite distinctive! It's proper bump shaped now rather than just making me look a bit fat which it did last week.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 15/04/2008 15:22

sorry vicsta i got it wrong If its any consolation I have felt really rough started to pick up around 14 weeks but started feeling it again a week a so ago.

Only being sick occasionally but everything just makes me feel sick. Dh says I definately moaning a lot more this time round.

You are well within your rights to have good moan.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 15/04/2008 15:27

Also had my scan this morning and everything looks fine. Told MW about my bleeding/spotting episodes.
Didnt seem concerned just said nothing they could do about it anyway. Would have been nice for a possible explanation instead of a rapid change of subject.
But scan was ok.
Also was very pushy regarding homebirth, I was very suprised as was persuaded against it last time.

fledtoscotland · 16/04/2008 21:08

glad your scan was ok. am looking forward to mine next tuesday. hope your HB goes OK.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 17/04/2008 15:28

Hi bet you cant wait for scan, It seems to drag the week before it.
Dont think I will be going for the home birth. DH thinks too risky would rather be in hospital.(after last time) Going to try for water birth again. Couldnt last time as there was meconium in my waters and had to be monitered throughout.
Are you going to find out the sex of baby?
