Nipple cream........ Is it an absolute must when breast feeding? I only breastfed for 6-8 weeks 20 years ago and can't remember using it!!

Is the below a good one? Looks the best one from boots......

This is the one that the lady who ran my antenatal classes recommended.

Emmaev · 18/08/2024 20:42

@BakeOffRewatch ah no my daughter is 8, I’ve just been napping a lot recently and been too hot for too many clothes haha tbh I could see the resemblence haha

MudandMoet · 18/08/2024 21:26

I'm with you all that's mentioned being shattered out but can't sleep. How is it possible to be so tired yet unable to have a good solid few hours? I need to get some bladder control back and sleep on my tummy as soon as possible after this baby is born.

My mucus plug has started to come away I'm sure (I'm 38+4) every time I wipe after a wee I have an ultra stringy slightly blood tinged mucus type substance on the tissue. I've googled and it just said it's the start of the cervix getting ready for labour and it's possible to wait for contractions to start or waters to go before I contact maternity Hosp. Just a waiting game now but I have my last consultant appt and scan on Tuesday.
Less than a week to go, I'm shitting it for the labour I can't lie!

@FuppinNora great minds ... I also have a basket full of biscuits and cake bars etc ready for visitors 😂

RosiePH · 18/08/2024 21:34

Has anyone else not actually got any maternity notes?! I’ve not got any paper notes and there is barely anything recorded on Badger.

tierneytarny · 18/08/2024 21:39

The nipple cream is amazing. I would say use it from feed one. Feed and then apply. I didn’t with my first and my wonderful sister brought me some when she visited (within the first 48 hours) and my nipples were already ripped to shreds. I lathered it on and it saved my nipples and my breastfeeding journey. With number two, I used it from feed one and had zero issues.

It is also a great lip balm!

A bit pricey but worth the money.

Same I have nothing really paper notes wise!! My folder thing has naff all in it!

I have badger and surely if another hospital needed our notes they'd be able to get them??

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 18/08/2024 23:54

What are you all having to eat after a c section? I know everyone on Instagram is all about sushi and bubbles but I'm not bothered about that. DH was asking what I think I'll fancy?

The food in the hospital I'm going into is extremely extremely dire so DH will need to pick something up.

Cinai · 19/08/2024 08:20

@HuggingAnIcePack887 i consider sushi and/or a smoked salmon sandwich, but I’m not sure about bubbles. I’ve heard that too, but surely with the amount of painkillers we’ll be on, that’s a bad idea?

hol92 · 19/08/2024 08:33

I also thought this in my first pregnancy and was really surprised when the only medication I was allowed after my section was paracetamol haha! It's mad! A few days later my parents came over with lemon drizzle cake and bubbles and I had a glass with some cake while they had cuddles It was lovely! 😄
On that subject is there anytime having VBAC? I'm going to book in a section because of how close I am age gap wise so just keep worrying! but said I maybe will try vaginal if I go into labour naturally

mrsbgb · 19/08/2024 09:39

@BakeOffRewatch I'm having a conversation about home birth on Wednesday, I'm 37 weeks on Friday and it's all been cleared in principal but haven't met the home birth team yet. I'm a FTM so I think they thought I'd change my mind, but I've ordered our birth pool etc!

@HuggingAnIcePack887 for some reason I really want crumpets after birth and have made this very clear to my husband, but I will also be opening a bottle of champagne as I've thought of nothing else, daily, since we found out I was pregnant in January 😂

Is anyone else starting to get a bit nervous about birth? I've been practising hypnobirthing techniques for months now, but now that it's only a few weeks away, I'm starting to feel quite scared about if I'll actually be able to cope. Presumably this is quite normal?!

Lillers · 19/08/2024 10:12

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I really want a lasagne 😂. I’ve got GD so it’s one of the things I can’t have and I really desperately want one, ideally with a side of chips that I can dip in the sauce. Basically I just want carbs with carbs and a side of carbs.

@mrsbgb Yeah definitely getting more nervous now - for me it’s the unknown of, what if I make a choice that isn’t the best one for me and makes it harder? I’m literally 50/50 about decisions on pain relief, with my gut feeling being that I want to try without an epidural and use gas & air, but then what if I get to it and can’t cope and it’s too late? Or what if I choose pethidine and then it turns out I’m allergic to opiates and die?! Highly unlikely, but how would I know, never having had opiates before? 😂
So yes, very normal to worry at this point I imagine.

Lillers · 19/08/2024 10:13

@HuggingAnIcePack887 Just saw your question was about after a c section - I’m planning a vaginal birth but the lasagna craving still stands!

Cinai2 · 19/08/2024 11:27

Yes, I’m a bit nervous too. I have a c section, it’s elective ish (recommended but my consultant also would be happy for me to try vaginally….but I think I’m even more scared of a vaginal birth than of a c section because of the unpredictability of it and the risk of an EMCS) I’m starting to get cold feet.

Emmaev · 19/08/2024 11:47

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I’ve told my other half that I want a local takeaway that does the most amazing wings. That’ll get me through the pain of childbirth I hope haha

Im 38 weeks today and very nervous about the pain. I’m hoping to go naturally, so my natural pain responses kick into gear. Worried about having an induction or a c section again.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 19/08/2024 12:22

I'm so jealous of you all who are 37/38 weeks or have sections or inductions booked in soon!!

I'm only 35+2, due 21st Sept and DS was a week late, so I'm expecting the same this time round...so whilst you're all snuggling your newborns...think of me, I'll still be here in this thread on my own and probably end up with an October baby 😂

They would happily give me an induction if I wanted to, but I have my heels firmly dug in the ground. So instead I have to go to the hospital every single week at the moment to alternate between cord flow scan and growth scan. Baby was 9.9 centile at 32+5, then 8.7 centile at 34+5, so they're keeping a very close eye on us both. Caused by my 'prolonged severe hyperemesis'.

Lillers · 19/08/2024 12:48

@BeautyAndTheBump1 Don’t worry, I’m only 34+5! Not due until 25th September, so I’ll probably be like you, hanging around here and wondering why I didn’t join an October thread as well just in case 😂😂

Decaffe · 19/08/2024 13:08

35w4d here @BeautyAndTheBump1! Feeling very tired and so sore with the PGP (which in turn isn’t helping with the tiredness, it’s a vicious cycle). Can’t believe there’s still a whole month to go either. Would love to be a bit closer to his due date!

TripleESept24 · 19/08/2024 13:08

I'm 36+3 latest I suppose I could have her is 23rd/24th so she will be September!

I realllllllly don't wanna go over tho once I finish work I know I will be so bored and just be anxiously waiting!!!

Anyone else just not scared at all about labour yet? I wonder if and when it will hit me? Twenty years ago I managed to push out an 8 pound 11er at just 18 years old with minimal damage (inside tears but no stitching)...... So at 38 I just don't feel that phased by it this time. I could regret that but they tend to say second time round is easier!!

hol92 · 19/08/2024 14:06

Other people who have a section date booked in for section, will you be telling family and friends the date? I find out mine next week and really don't want people to know because the day before I don't want anyone messaging me saying good luck etc as know it will make me anxious! With my first I went into labour just past 36 weeks, he was breech and had to have an emergency section but I was so calm the whole time and I'm sure it's because there was no build up and nobody knew!
But no sure how to get around it, unless I tell people it's at a later date x

Cinai2 · 19/08/2024 14:09

I told my parents and sister only, my husband preferred not to tell anyone. With friends I’m being vague and say that my due date is mid September, I didn’t even tell them that I have a section booked.

SC126 · 19/08/2024 14:18

@hol92 i have told most people. However I've not told my parents because they are on holiday for it and they knew they would be. I dont want my mum spending her special holiday on her phone waiting for news from me. And it means I'll tell them when I can get hold of them afterwards.

RosiePH · 19/08/2024 14:32

@hol92 I would say I have made the mistake of telling people! I’ve had to warn my parents that the date could get changed and I don’t want to be bombarded with messages all day, along the lines of ‘is he here yet?!’.

I was told the date at 16 weeks, so it may well change due to planning as that’s quite early to have known from.

MIL was a mistake to tell as she keeps asking me to confirm the date so she can book it and the next day as AL. I have told DH to deal with that haha. She’s not coming to the hospital! I don’t know if I’ll be up for it, if I’ll have had the section and be out of recovery before the 2 hour visiting hours slot and the next day I hope to be allowed home not having visitors to the hospital bed.

I have told one close friend the date but she is due a few days before my c-section.

FuppinNora · 19/08/2024 18:33

I'm only getting a Sweep done when I'm 39 weeks but I'm not telling anyone as already the messages are driving me mad. I know people mean well but listening to "not long to go" or "get all the sleep you can" etc. If no one sent me messages I'd be annoyed too probably 😂 I think tell them it is the day after. No visitors allowed in my hospital which is good in 1 way but then they'll be coming to house. At least with hospital it is set times.

I'm starting to panic slightly about the birth because on my first I only got to 3cm before ecs and reading about tears is traumatising me. My own fault I need to stop googling! I had a great recovery with a c section but they said it is ok for me to have a Vbac so I'll go with their recommendations but eeekkkk.

SpicyMoth · 19/08/2024 20:13

Will be 38 weeks tomorrow here and I am SO impatient !😩

Had cramping all of Sunday and thought it might've been time, but it ended up going away - I'm a mix between excited, impatient and terrified not gonna lie.

Had a solid week of feeling "normal" for the first time in... God damn, nearly 9 months I guess now?!! (Holy shit it's getting so close to go-time! 😖 )

No PGP really, no pain in general, no belly itchiness, no heartburn, not really that hormonal, nothin'!
I could even roll over in bed okay!!

Now? It's all back with a vengeance.
PGP is back, pain in general is back, exhausted again, I'm the itchiest I've ever been, my belly button is now starting to turn into an outie, the heartburns back, the nausea's back, can't roll over in bed or move around without pain, and I've cried the last 3 days in a row multiple times a day so the hormones are definitely back now too.

Absolutely bricking it about actual delivery but I just want to get it over and done with so we can meet our baby boy - I just want it to be time damnit!! 😩😩😩

I’m 36+5 today and have a midwife appointment with the homebirth team tomorrow! My midwife bought up the subject of a home birth last time as I’m low risk and second baby. I had a long labour last time and a lot of intervention - she mentioned home births usually have less intervention (which I’d like) and second babies are also quicker (which I’d also like😂) she said there’s no harm if you change your mind, but at least you’re on the books if you fancy it. So yeah.. let’s see! I have all/no questions as I’m still on the fence.

Ofherwise I actually feel smugly fine. No pains, sleeping okay, not getting up to wee. Don’t want to jinx it but 🙈 considering I also have a toddler I’m v surprised by the way I feel!
