@RachSmile I got a text through saying that mine is due for delivery in the next couple of weeks. I'm very excited for it!

SantasRubiksCube · 23/07/2024 20:04

Ok guys I have some questions, this isn't my first baby but I never bothered before after birth. When people suggest spritzing witch hazel on a maternity pad then putting it in the freezer, do you do one pad at a time or the whole pack? How long in advance do you do it before you want to use it? Doesn't spraying it with something theb freezing it increase the risk of it going icy then sticking to the skin? 😂 I'm not keen on spending the best part of £20 on spritz for bitz as I've seen very mixed reviews but I want something to ease the discomfort this time.

tryingfortwo2 · 23/07/2024 20:32

@RachSmile I got mine a couple of weeks ago, such a lovely delivery. We’re so lucky to live in a country where everyone gets all that! Such a great scheme.

tryingfortwo2 · 23/07/2024 20:35

@Honeyandsunshine1 this is mine.. (Amazon) and I don’t like peppermint tea either, you can definitely smell/taste it but I can manage it. It’s not horrendous, but it definitely has a bit of mint about it.

Also would like ideas that don't cost nearly £20!! I did nothing but cool salt water last time!! But I remember being in agony from the tears when needing to wee

Khanga27 · 23/07/2024 21:53

ah I just looked up raspberry leaf tea, but Tommys website says you shouldn’t have it if you have a fibroid. Guess i will stock up on dates nearer the time

tryingfortwo2 · 23/07/2024 21:59

@TripleESept24 from the stinging of peeing? I had the spritz for bitz last time but I found it actually quite stingy, but the peri bottle saved my liiiife. Dilutes your wee so it hardly stings, it was a godsend.

RosiePH · 23/07/2024 22:01

Whilst I’ve not given birth before, I did have vaginal stitches after an operation so experienced the stinging when peeing! I found leaning forwards when going helped as it directed flow a bit further away and also a peri bottle of warm water to dilute too.

HRP1990 · 23/07/2024 22:05

I had an episiotomy with my daughter and the recovery was actually fine, I only ended up using some some iced sanitary towels they were heaven! I’ve got the Frida post partum recover kit this time as a gift, and it has got alot of bits in I’m hoping will be useful if I need them.

TripleESept24 · 23/07/2024 22:09

@RosiePH @tryingfortwo2 looks like a peri bottle then! I just aimed well last time and poured a jug of cool water over when going!

Xur · 23/07/2024 22:13

My friend told me that apparently we are not allowed to use the peri bottle the first time because they will be asking for urine sample and it needs to be concentrated.
😑

Huh? I don't understand? You wouldn't use it if you were having to do a sample ?

LSW82 · 23/07/2024 22:37

@RachSmile you've just reminded me that I haven't applied for mine yet, midwife must have forgot!

Xur · 23/07/2024 22:42

@TripleESept24 yes exactly what I said but as far as I’ve heard the first wee is the most, most painful one

LSW82 · 23/07/2024 22:44

I had a peri bottle last time but didn't use it, no stinging for me but think my cut was lower so away from stream. I did try the frozen sanitary towel but wasn't a fan, they were hard when frozen then started to thaw so were wet! I've got a gel thing to try this time, but can also be used on section scar , put in microwave to warm for muscular aches / period pains etc so
should get some use out of it!

PinkWatermelon88 · 23/07/2024 23:25

@Xur if you do need to give a sample you can use the bottle for a second to take the initial sting out, then give the sample, then bottle again.

My bottle is a knoc-off from Amazon and it was amazing!! Highly recommend.

I loved the cool packs from Boots too, knock off of the Frida ones and much cheaper. Can often be on 3 for 2 sale!

tryingfortwo2 · 23/07/2024 23:57

@Xur I’ve never heard of giving a urine sample straight after birth, I certainly didn’t have to. But if you did have to, you could definitely just stop the peri bottle whilst you collected then use it again.

Xur · 24/07/2024 06:56

@tryingfortwo2 my friend who gave birth just this year in February said she had to give sample from the first wee. Idk maybe it’s just her.

HRP1990 · 24/07/2024 07:18

I’ve not had to give a urine sample after birth, but I did have to let the midwives know that I had had my first wee after the catheter was removed?

FuppinNora · 24/07/2024 07:28

I've decided to go to GP on Friday to get signed off work. I'm uncomfortable now, patience is wearing thin and I keep waking for about 3 hours every night. I'm just done, I'll be 34 weeks on Friday. I'm exhausted when I come home so work life balance and all that!

Has anyone had an emergency section before and been told the liklihood of having an emergency section again. Apparently there is high percentage of it happening again the longer you leave it between births. I haven't researched this yet but just heard this from a midwife (off duty) and wondering had anyone heard same?

WinsandSam · 24/07/2024 07:31

Just out of interest. How many of us are having c sections?

I'm meeting with the anaesthetist today to discuss a few things 😬 obviously I'm nervous as a FTM and know recovery can be tough.. also have a fear of medical procedures (give me strength) but also excited to know that birth will be over within an hour!

MrsM89 · 24/07/2024 07:43

Anyone planning a home birth and if so how supportive is your local midwives and what will be planned ready etc? @mrsbgb i think you mentioned it the other day?
Xx

Cat2022 · 24/07/2024 07:58

@Honeyandsunshine1 you might need to watch that tea as it’s heavier in hibiscus which as Xur said can bring on contractions so often not recommended in pregnancy. I think that’s why the push mama one is mixed with pepppermint because that’s safe.

I had a bit of a scare during the night when my daughter woke up and I started having contractions. Thankfully they only lasted a little while but scared me enough that I’m getting everything sorted today. My husband is away to Belgium this weekend for the GP too (I was supposed to go but decided it might be too risky so he is taking a friend )

Oh feck. I’m not doing so well with this tea business 🫠😂🥲

@Xur Yeah I’ve only ever had to “show” my first wee after I had my catheter out for my first baby. I still used spritz for bitz (only once I got home though 2 days PP, because I’d totally forgotten I’d packed it and only saw it when I got home and put away my hospital bag stuff) and with my second, they didn’t ask for anything wee-wise, so I’d definitely recommend using them. I think it’s super rare to be asked for a sample that gets tested after birth. I even had pre-eclampsia with my first but they still didn’t test it for protein or anything post-birth
