5 weeks and bleeding 😢

I posted this morning about lack of symptoms and shortly after had some brown when I wiped. This has progressively increased to brown bits in my urine and darker “bleeding”
I had a GP appointment and she said she would refer me to early pregnancy. Since then the bleeding has increased, but only when I wipe. My GP has called me back and said early pregnancy won’t see me until I’m 6 weeks so I have to wait. She asked me to do another pregnancy test which I’ve done with extremely diluted urine. Faint positive on Clear Blue and positive on a CB digital.

I guess I’m after some hope 😢over 10yrs waiting for this and it looks like I’m losing the baby 😢

I had bleeding at 5+6 and it turned out to be a subchorionic haematoma, baby was completely fine (and is now earth side). Bleeding in early pregnancy is common and although it can be a bad sign it's not always, especially if it's brown and you're not cramping. Emily Oster (Expecting Better) cites a statistic that 13% of women with bleeding will miscarry, meaning 87% won't!

Also symptoms before six weeks or so are unusual, it just depends how fast the HCG is rising. HCG can stop rising because you're about to miscarry but it might also just be rising more slowly or you may not be as reactive to it as some women are.

It's one of those hope for the best, prepare for the worst scenarios - but there is hope. Hang in there!

Hey OP. The darker blood is sometimes the old blood leaving your body. Have a look through some threads on here about bleeding early on to try keep yourself positive until your appointment. Good luck x

Whyoohwhyohwhyyyy · 08/07/2024 15:12

I had bleeding from around 6 weeks - 12 weeks. It was a subchorionic haematoma. I was thinking the worst and my midwife got me a same day appointment at EPU and saw little bean with a heartbeat. Good luck x

DoraBella88 · 08/07/2024 15:32

Thank you ladies. I’m in bits 😢
the bleeding has progressed with some clots, still no cramps or pain though. I’m not bleeding through to my underwear, it’s only when I wipe. Just increase in amount and colour

I did just read up on subchorionic haematoma. Hoping it could be this fingers crossed.

DoraBella88 · 08/07/2024 16:28

I’m not bleeding through to my underwear but it’s certainly there when I wipe after going to the toilet. I’m trying to remain positive but I’ve got a really bad feeling about this 😢

Oh OP. Please hold onto the hope that it’s something that the women above have mentioned. When can you be seen?

We’ve waited so long for this, over 10yrs. I just feel so devastated.

they won’t see me until I’m 6 weeks but my GP is going to try and sneak me in a few days early. So won’t be until Thurs / Friday this week.

I am very lucky to have a very good boss who has given me the rest of this week off work to rest and see what happens.

there just seems too much blood, even though it’s only when I wipe. It’s not bright red but it’s definitely more blood colour than brown

So now you’ve got the week off rest up and see what the week brings. It may be what the women have mentioned above. Try not to start googling things, if anyone looked at my search history during my pregnancy they’d think I was insane. Hopefully your GP can get you in this week and get some good news. Please keep us updated. I hope it’s all positive news for you x

SquashPenguin · 08/07/2024 16:45

I bled solidly from weeks 5- 8, it had taken me 6 years to get pregnant and to say I was terrified was an understatement. But it turned out to be nothing and I now have a 6 week old asleep on my chest. Bleeding in early pregnancy is more common than we realise, it’s not always bad news. Fingers crossed it all works out for you x

Congratulations on your newborn.

thank you.
was it bad bleeding? Like blood with some clots? It’s only when I wipe but there’s more than I’d like to see of it.

I bled when I wiped from week 6 until week 9, it drove me absolutely crazy, I feared going to the loo. It was all fine, the SCH was gone by my 12wk scan. There are so many reasons for bleeding.

There's nothing you can do about the outcome, either you're miscarrying or you aren't. It's heartbreaking and awful, but it's true. Take it from one who knows, you need to try and stop thinking about it. Use your time off work to do something fun, go to the cinema or go for a day trip somewhere, take yourself out for a nice meal. Give yourself and your body some love and care. Otherwise you're just going to suffer unnecessarily - if you're miscarrying there's plenty of time for suffering once you know it's happening, believe me. And if you're not you've just had a miserable week for no reason.

Do come back and update us though - my fingers are still crossed for you!

TaffyTuck · 08/07/2024 17:21

I bled on/ off the whole of my first pregnancy and when I went into labour bled again. Baby is nearly 23!

Olika · 08/07/2024 18:52

When you say bits coming out, what do you mean?

DoraBella88 · 08/07/2024 18:55

Olika · 08/07/2024 18:52

When you say bits coming out, what do you mean?

It was like brown bits. Like specks in my urine.

the bleeding has increased. Again only when I wipe. But it’s getting heavier

OP posts:
Olika · 08/07/2024 20:45

How are you doing? Are you still bleeding?

QuantumPanic · 08/07/2024 20:47

Hi OP,

I had bleeding at six weeks, diagnosed as an extra chorionic haematoma. It was red blood, like normal menstrual blood, but it lasted less than a day. I'm still very early on, so not sure how things will end for me - but until I get the news that something's wrong, I'm assuming it's all ok.

I watched a video made by an obstetrician who had also had an ECH - she described very heavy bleeding (soaking through her scrubs) over several days, but her baby was ok in the end. Bleeding (and sometimes bleeding vast amounts) does not necessarily mean a miscarriage.

I hope you can be seen quickly and that everything is ok. The anxiety and the not knowing is horrible. I've got all my fingers crossed for you. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

DoraBella88 · 08/07/2024 21:02

@Olika Yes still bleeding but only when I wipe. I’ve put a pad on just in case though. Still no cramps or pain though.

@QuantumPanic thank you for taking the time to reply. That’s interesting to hear that it can be quite heavy bleeding and still be ok. I’ve convinced myself it’s bad news. But I think I’m just scared to allow myself to be hopeful just to find out it is bad.

so emotional tonight 😢

OP my daughter is 2 in a couple of weeks and she's upstairs fighting her sleep right now, when I was pregnant with her I went to the toilet at around 5 weeks and had brown blood when I wiped, the next time I went I wiped and I had bright red blood running down my arms, there was so much it was down to my elbows just from wiping, I obviously freaked. But like people above have said it was a subchrionic hematoma. It happens don't lose hope yet, it's not over till it's over, I hope it's all ok for you, please keep us updated if you feel up to it of course xx

Oh my gosh! That must of been terrifying for you! But that’s amazing you had a successful pregnancy!
Maybe I can have a tiny bit of hope then. Did you bleed a lot? My bleeding has got progressively worse through the day but still not cramping. I’ve put a pad on and not had anything on that.
it’s just so hard as my GP was adamant on me being seen today and then they told her they won’t see me yet. She is going to try and get me in a bit sooner. But it was terrifying having to do another pregnancy test and having to send her photographic evidence of it. I’d been for like 10 wees before taking the tests and was fully expecting the digital to say not pregnant as my wee was so diluted. But was relieved to see it still showing pregnant.

I’ve brought some more tests today so I can test again

It was a lot yeah, when I called the midwife she said we will schedule you in for a scan in a couple of weeks to confirm the loss untill then just sit tight. But I couldn't eat or sleep and I was not waiting so I booked a private scan which still had to wait 9 days but there she was bouncing around thankfully.

I had to call the midwife back up and tell her I actually was still pregnant and take me off the miscarriage scan list. It was a rocky start and I totally understand how you must be feeling right now I spent pretty much a whole day in bed sobbing. It's hard but I'm rooting for you to have happy news soon! Xx

DoraBella88 · 08/07/2024 21:35

Wow. That’s scary! Thank god you had the private early scan. I’m so pleased that you had a happy outcome.

im very lucky to have a very supportive boss and she’s told me to rest up this week and go from there. So I plan on a few days in bed just relaxing. We’ll just have to wait and see I guess.

I appreciate everyone taking the time to give me some reassuring words. I will keep you posted ❤️

My wife bled several times during our pregnancy in the same way you are describing, with blood not showing unless she wiped, varying from brown to bright red, from memory it was about week 6 - 10.

Having suffered miscarriages before we were frantically worried each time but our little one is snoring upstairs right now :)

I hope it works out for you as it did for us. I remember the helpless feeling and the awful waiting to find out if everything was ok. But everything could be absolutely fine, fingers crossed for you.

Hi, I also experienced bleeding when I was 8 weeks. It was very similar to your situation. I was convinced I was losing my baby as it lasted almost two weeks, but it appeared to be delayed implantation bleeding.
