Have I ruined the gender surprise? :(

I’m so worried our gender surprise is ruined. We didn’t want to find out the sex. All of the time at our 20 Week scan yesterday we looked away at all the right bits and the sonographer was great. But then the two photos she gave me one looks like a penis…..

I’m so upset that there potentially is no surprise now.

What do you think? I’ve added a few photos.

I originally thought it could be cord but I think where I’ve circled green is cord so doesn’t leave for it to be much else….

The only thing is the other scan has a similar looking thing which I’ve circled too but HELP!

Are you a sonographer? If not, there is no way to know if that's a penis or something else. I would have no clue. Relax!

I’m having a boy and his penis doesn’t look like that in scans

I had a boy and you couldn’t see his penis in any of the printed scans only on the screen when the sonographer was checking the sex.

Thank you! I wasn’t aware you could tell the sex from side on photo but this weirdly came up on my FB today and I think it looks identical and now I can’t unsee it!xx

Oh gosh OP! It is hard to say I can see the confusion. I would say at this stage it could just be the cord! It does look higher up to be penis in my non pro opinion

Thank you all! You are right sorry I didn’t really word it properly. I guess I feel angry at myself for knowing to second guess but I know I haven’t personally ruined it! I think I just wanted someone to say no it’s not the penis! Annoyingly I don’t know any sonographers! I appreciate your replies though X

You have no idea what things are. Also they're so close that could for example be part of the cord, a hand thats resting around there. All sorts. One of my scans opened with a very clear penis peeing into the fluid 😅.

Also, what would ruin it would be an unhealthy baby. Knowing the sex of your baby doesn't ruin anything. Personally I was just so excited to meet my baby boy, I don't see how I would have been any more excited not knowing the sex. Tbh I don't see how it makes any difference this young 😂

All I see is a healthy baby

On my third I videoed the scans for dh because COVID. And one time I was convinced I saw the whole undercarriage, penis, testes the works. Until a second later the penis had teeth and was clearly a jaw. (Late pregnancy so was snippets of baby instead of a full profile) I do think it's impossible to tell.

But there still is a surprise because you don't actually know what you're having. Let's face it , it can only be one of two things, anyway! You might have guessed right, you might not.

Regardless, you still have the surprise of meeting your baby for the very first time and there really isn't a bigger surprise than that.

It's either a boy or a girl. You don't know for certain. You won't really know till they are born and to be honest it makes very little difference once they arrive. I've heard of sonographers getting it wrong. Those parents really got a surprise!

Does look similar to a shot of one of my grandsons. Not a sonographer though

I kept my first a surprise (turned out to be a boy) and these scans don’t look anything like this so I’m not sure it is the penis you’re seeing??

Gently, you asked for a scan photo.

What did you expect the sonographer to do? Pose your baby in a way to maintain the surprise? Or would you prefer not to have had a photo at all?

You still don't know the sex of your baby and you're not qualified to read scan images. Any surprise is still intact.

What a bizarre thing to get upset about. You have a healthy and developing baby-a lot more than many get. The sex is so unimportant- you have no idea how they will chose to express their gender identity.

I had a gender scan because I wanted to find out the sex, the sonographer had to do a potty shot to show if it was a boy or a girl. I've had 2 boys now and neither of their scans looked like that side shot.

I don't think the sonographer would have given you that photo if it was obviously a penis, in our first pregnancy we wanted the surprise and every sonographer was super careful not to spoil it for us!

It looked so is more like umbilical cord to me but I am not a sonographer.
TBH I'd be more worried that there appears to be a giant monster face about to eat your baby's head.

Thank you everyone! I think I just saw it straight away and assumed penis. And we will be so happy either way I just felt like this is our last baby we really wanted a surprise this time and that it won’t be now! But I am feeling a bit more reassured that there is still going to be a surprise now!

Think it may be thigh bone here but it is a weird floating leg above…:

That bit in pic two looks like part of the other thigh bone, on my DDs scan it is much clearer, and the exact same place where her other leg is, but if they're fidgeting you'll only see a glimpse of it in an image.
