@Ebonythoughts omg!!! Congratulations my darling! This is amazing 🥰

Having a second child is going to come with it's challenges at any given age!! It will be tough but regarding. And in a few years they'll be best friends and entertaining each other - perfect!

Thank you hun, yes I’m really excited about them growing up together. I know the first year will be hard and I’m so grateful to have a good support system around me. I think I’m just nervous 🙈

Cheetocat · 03/09/2024 22:41

Definitely partners in crime! Lol I’m not looking forward two crying babies but those days will pass quickly I hope 🙈

Poor baby was in for a blood test this morning, he was so sleepy which made it worse. Hopefully when we have the results they'll take him off the iron supplement and his windy tummy gets better.

He's still eating just one meal a day at lunch time but boy is he a bottomless pit, he cries when the food is gone no matter how much I give him. Today he had sweet potato, peas, carrots, sweetcorn and mushroom with a drizzle of olive oil and he tore into it. He'll be 7 months next Monday and I think I'll start giving him dinner as his second meal then.

Ebonythoughts · 04/09/2024 21:43

How are you all getting on with introducing solids? Apart from porridge most mornings and adding the odd flavour of fruit to it or giving some veg puree in the afternoon, I haven’t got into any kind of routine yet… I think I’m a bit anxious. I’d really appreciate hearing how everyone’s getting on.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 04/09/2024 22:15

@Ebonythoughts
Id say we're doing better now, the first meal I give is dinner at say half 12ish and with that I give a finger food like a Ella's kitchen melty puff thing or a organix weaning wand depending what's open, he has 2-3 of those cos he doesn't eat them all cos hasn't mastered how to get it all out of his hand yet 😄
And a fruit yogurt pouch cos he was struggling with thicker textures when first started so this is how I'm introducing them

Then at tea time at say half 4 he has a bit of a veg pouch which is more puréed as I'm using them all up then he has a bit of fruit whether that's a puréed pouch or a bit more of the open yogurt 1 from dinner 🙂

In terms of weaning, my LO will be 7 months on 13/09 and I have just been following her lead. She has 2-3 meals a day already but I don’t spoon feed her so she’s in charge of how much she eats. Basically, if she’s fighting me to eat what is on my plate, I give it to her 😅. She loves food and is too nosey and busy to breastfeed all day. She then drinks milk all night 😴. Every baby is different though and she is surprisingly well coordinated for her age - she’s crawling, pulling to standing, been sitting since 5 months, close to a pincer grip. I don’t think my others were as good at feeding themselves at her age

@Ebonythoughts congratulations! My first two are 18 months apart and I loved it. I would love to be pregnant again now but I don’t think my body will get pregnant until I stop breastfeeding 😩. My baby is CMPA and has not had formula yet, the specialist formulas taste so bad that I don’t think she’d take it now she’s so old. I will have to wait for baby number 4 but I would love the gap you are having. You’ve got this ❤️

msp2023 · 05/09/2024 08:07

@Ebonythoughts
We're on two meals a day - breakfast (around 8am) and dinner (around 5.30pm).
She has no interest in finger foods other than fruits like watermelon wedges, oranges etc. Basically all the juicy things!

She doesn't care for any other items in front of her so I'm spoon feeding. At a chunky mashed stage at the moment, I must admit I'm anxious to move onto more 'solid' items as she does gag quite a lot when she eats too big of a chunk of melon!

It's super hit and miss, sometimes she'll eat one spoonful, other times a small bowl full.

LavenderSweetPea · 05/09/2024 16:30

@Ebonythoughts we're on two meals a day. Porridge in the morning, sometimes with fruit puree or a nut butter stirred in. Our evening meal really varies but I always try to include a finger food (usually a fruit/veg stick like carrot, cucumber, watermelon etc but sometimes toast or cheese) and either a chunky mash of ingredients from my own dinner (I've very recently introduced meat into this rather than just veg) or puree from an Ella's pouch if I've not got organised. I've also tried making egg muffins for him which went down well so I intend to try pin wheels too. Sometimes we finish the meal with yogurt.

I also give him the organix rice cakes or puffs at lunch time if he's cranky he's not got food but I'm holding off doing a proper meal at lunch until I'm in a better more organised routine with dinner as at the moment it's feeling very much like 'what the hell do we have in the fridge I can turn into appropriate baby food' every evening.

He's very good at self feeding for the rice cakes and puffs, but finds the other less dry finger food much trickier to eat (no teeth yet!) so most of the actual consumption is from the purees - I feed him, he's not very into doing it himself, but I reckon that's just boys for you!

Havanalily1806 · 05/09/2024 17:31

@Ebonythoughts

We started off with lunch after her second bottle and then introduced breakfast.

I know I need to introduce tea to help fill her up for overnight but I honestly don't know how I'd have the time yet 😅 I'm thinking of doing this when she drops her last nap which would be in a month or so...

For lunch we started off with the 30 days of how to wean your baby book, did this all at lunch to have time to judge for any reactions.

Now for lunch she had a range of purées I've made up and freeze- some from this book and a lot from the annabel karmel app which I've found really good. She then has finger foods like toast with peanut butter, courgette/pizza pinwheels, lentil fritters etc... she's getting a lot better with these, mainly sucks them but does eat some most days. And then a finger food of fruit- watermelon, orange, kiwi etc, I use the solid starts app for how to serve them.

Breakfast is either smoothie bowls from the how to wean your baby book but I add different fruits, carrot cake porridge (both of these I make in advance and freeze) or weetabix/porridge with peanut butter or banana.

I sometimes use the fruit only pouches as a little desert/trick technique to get her to eat the purées but I've avoided any other pouch food which was just my preference.

This may change when I start to introduce tea as well though as I feel like I'd quickly run out of options- I'd love to introduce tea when she's more able to eat a bit more of what we are eating to make it easier

CheeseAndCrackersx · 05/09/2024 18:16

@LavenderSweetPea how does he find the rice cakes? I was looking at them today actually but I was unsure about getting them cos even I find that kind of thing dry to eat 😄

OP posts:
LavenderSweetPea · 05/09/2024 18:33

@CheeseAndCrackersx he really likes them. I've tried them and they've actually got a good tangy fruit flavour to them. Unlike the Ella's kitchen puffs which he seems to like, but to me just taste like eating polystyrene.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 05/09/2024 19:08

Ah thank you 😊 @LavenderSweetPea
I'll get him some to try then. I guess it's no harm in buying to try cos I find them all reasonably priced and if baby doesn't eat them the dog might 🤣

OP posts:
LavenderSweetPea · 05/09/2024 22:48

@CheeseAndCrackersx yeah the dog's a fan of the rice cakes too to be fair 😅

CheeseAndCrackersx · 06/09/2024 12:47

What is the age on things like these does anyone know? They come up in the baby snack section when looking online but doesn't say from what age like everything else

Sadly it's marketed for babies and children but it's cake, the second and third ingredients are both sugar. Not suitable for babies at all. World health organisation recommends no added sugar until after 2 years old.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 06/09/2024 13:49

Ah thank you @Cheetocat I didn't think they'd be suitable yet but was unsure why didn't have an age like most other snacks do 😀

OP posts:
Cheetocat · 06/09/2024 17:27

@CheeseAndCrackersx Yeah, I think most of the time it's down to your individual baby, moreso around chewing and textures rather than the ingredients. Watch your little one for whether they're taking bites and chewing and such with finger foods and if they're doing okay then I wouldn't worry about what I offer them. ❤️

Some finger foods I've found brilliant for us are
Fresh mozzarella
Thick cucumber sticks
Boiled sweet potato wedges
Banana
Steamed apple with the skin peeled off
Fruit pancakes
Oat & banana muffins in the air fryer

I am going to make some potato tots at the weekend, just potato and veg mashed up with flour and shaped into fingers and baked.

Just a little vent...

Waiting on gynae hosp referral since APRIL, heard nothing since.

Sex is SO painful, haven't managed it since birth. I had a look down there in a mirror today, first time in a while. Seem to have some fleshy substance sticking out of my vagina which has spooked me. No pain other than when attempting sex. Wondering if I have a small prolapse 😣
