Just curious. I’ve only had 12 weeks and 20 weeks so far but it seems most have more these days.

I've had 1 private scan and 2 nhs ones so far. I'm 19 weeks. I have my 20 week scan next week then scans every 4 weeks. This is due to a loss at 20 weeks last year and severe IUGR.

Sdpbody · 01/06/2024 18:30

I had 2 early scans as I had so much bleeding. A scan at 10 weeks for the Harmony test and a scan on the NHS at 12 weeks.

I had a high reading on my 12 week scan so needed further scans as my uterus is funny shaped. Then at 16 weeks as tests came back unusual.

20 week scan was normal.

Reduced movement at 30 weeks and they found growth retardation and my placenta was failing so then had 2 scans a week between 30 and 34 and then 4 a week between 34 and 36 and then had an planned but emergency c section at 35 weeks.

All in all, I had 22 scans plus the consultant ones that were not done by a sonographer.

I had 4 scans with my second 😂.

5 with my first - I got referred for the extra three as almost every time they took a fundal measurement it was either too big or too small.

Only one so far with number 2, but I'm only 15 weeks. Fingers crossed that fundal measurement behaves itself this time! (it was nice to see baby, but the extra worry by the fifth scan was really getting old)

timetorefresh · 01/06/2024 19:24

Er many, with both, but neither were straightforward pregnancies. DD amniotic fluid was really low so they thought there must be a kidney issue. DS was measuring too small and reduced movements and signs of pre eclampsia so monitoring scans, oh and bleeding so scans then too

BurbageBrook · 01/06/2024 20:19

4: three medical scans at 12 weeks, 20 weeks and 36 weeks and one extra private scan to find out the sex at 16 weeks.

Pancakepipsqueak · 01/06/2024 20:30

First I honestly lost count, but from memory
6 weeks (bleed)
7 weeks (no heartbeat on previous scan)
12 weeks
20 weeks
21 weeks (repeat due to heart not being fully visualised and then heart problem picked up)
22 weeks x 2 (FMU and cardiology)
Then every 3 weeks (I think) I had 3 (one FMU at local hospital, one cardiac and one growth at heart specialist hospital - growth scans due to placenta issues and IUGR)

I gave birth at 37 weeks so 22 ish?

Second I had
6 or 7 weeks (bleed)
12 weeks
16 weeks (anxiety - lovely consultant got me an extra scan)
20 (placenta issues picked up - high pressure in placenta)
Then growth scans every 2 weeks.
36 weeks - scan showed breech - scheduled for C section.
37 weeks - extra scan as midwife thought she'd flipped and she had
Gave birth at 37 weeks so 13 ish?

Honestly, I'd have loved to have had the standard 2. I felt like more of a medical specimen especially in my first pregnancy than I did a pregnant woman.

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 01/06/2024 20:32

As few as absolutely possible.

Bunny2006 · 01/06/2024 20:47

12 weeks, 17 weeks (private), 20 weeks, then I think I had 3/4 growth scans around 28-36 weeks (gave birth at 39 weeks) suspended but never quite confirmed gestational diabetes, turns out I never had it

DemelzaRobins · 01/06/2024 20:50

I've had 7 NHS scans this pregnancy (am 40 weeks, due today).

5 weeks EPU - to confirm location of pregnancy due to previous ectopic
7 weeks EPU - viability scan due to previous pregnancy losses (ectopic and a miscarriage)
12 weeks - standard dating scan
20 weeks - standard anomaly scan
28 weeks - growth scan, originally planned as obstetrician was worried baby was small but at 20 weeks he was 94th centile (fortunately he eventually fell to 72nd centile)
32 weeks - second growth scan
36 weeks - standard growth scan (for my trust)

Roselilly36 · 01/06/2024 20:51

3 DS1 NHS
2 DS2 NHS

Onemoret1me · 01/06/2024 20:54

2 with my first

a had a large amount with my second due to complications, possibly had about 10+. If I’d not have had complications then it would have been 3 as I had a private scan

Bramblecrumble22 · 01/06/2024 21:02

First pregnancy 5 NHS scans. I had the standard 2, but my anomaly scan picked up a low lying placenta so I had a third scan, can't remember when, maybe 28 weeks. It had moved. My bump measurements just seemed random, I think they were done by different people, so midwife sent me for a later scan (all was fine, growing quickly actually) The my consultant randomly gave me another at 35/36 weeks.

Second pregnancy I also had 5 ( or maybe 6) scans. 2 standard, but the 20 week one picked up unusual blood flow in one of my uterus arteries. So I was booked in for 2 more scans. After the second, there was slight slowed growth but not significant so I had some more (one or two)

I didn't choice any private scans but know loads of people who had early reassurence.

VioIetMoon · 01/06/2024 21:24

I'm 33 weeks and I've had 12 scans.
Next one is on Tuesday .
They bring me in weekly / fortnight
Two of those were private scans and the rest nhs.
I had extra scans due to collapsing, growth scans as baby hadnt made growth progress between scans and 2 scans for bleeding /- reduced movements
I'm higher risk tho so they scan me often. Mine is an ivf pregnancy, advanced age, gestational diabetes and ongoing cardiology investigations and checking growth with little one.
I think it depends on individual circumstances I guess how many scans are offered and what is the reason for them. Generally most of my friends had 2-3 scans

charlie19900 · 01/06/2024 22:12

7 nhs scans I was induced on my 36 week scan after the scan they kept me in. Baby had stopped growing.

minnieot · 01/06/2024 22:17

I'm only just at almost 25 weeks and I honestly can't even count. I've been so anxious during this entire pregnancy that private scans have just been an absolute godsend, I've had 10+ scans at least so far

sunshineandshowers40 · 01/06/2024 22:19

2 with DC1 and I think I had 3 with the other two (one measuring small and one measuring big- towards the end of the pregnancies).

LabradorVibe · 01/06/2024 22:22

I'm 24 weeks. Paid for a private scan at 9 weeks (as we were flying long haul before my 12 week scan was booked, and I wanted a bit of reassurance before the flight). Then a 12 week scan and 20 week scan. I'm low risk but have been booked for a 36 week growth scan - not sure if that standard for my NHS hospital, or if that's because this is my first pregnancy

Surroundedbyfools · 01/06/2024 22:32

Nhs scans at 12 and 20 weeks then because both pregnancies my boys measured big I had 2 extra scans with both at 32 and 36 weeks.

I did also have a private early scan and gener scan with them both mainly coz I’m an anxious/nosy fucker lol

Twinkletwinklelil · 02/06/2024 07:29

History of recurrent miscarriage so last pregnancy I had
6-7 nhs ones, 2 standard and then the early reassurance ones (I was on progesterone) and a later one for growth
we then paid to have 4-5 private scans later in the pregnancy
my anxiety was through the roof, it was the only thing that helped

this time round I’ve had 3 early reassurance ones, my 12 weeks one and we’ll be booking one before 20 weeks to find out gender. Then the 20 week and maybe 2 more after 20 weeks. Again.. anxiety! But those 3 extra ones will be private

LemonCitron · 02/06/2024 07:32

I have 3 DC and I had the normal 2 NHS scans (12 weeks and 20 weeks) for all of them.

theteddybear · 02/06/2024 12:01

I had 3 with my first but 2 were nhs I paid for a 3D one myself at 30wks. Second baby was again only 2 scans on nhs.

There was chat of possibly another with my first as was measuring small but in the end the hospital called and said there weren't going to give me another one at that time. I don't think the measurement was far enough away to get one.

Most people I know have only had 2 as well. My sister has 3 kids didn't get any extra ones. My sil had 1 extra one with her first as her placenta was in the wrong place so they had to check it was clear of the exit so to speak! Often it's to do with measurements of gestational diabetes.
