Just curious. I’ve only had 12 weeks and 20 weeks so far but it seems most have more these days.

12 and 20 NHS

pambeesleyhalpert · 01/06/2024 14:17

Oh one growth scan second time around, 3 first time round

LongIslander · 01/06/2024 14:18

2

AliceCallous · 01/06/2024 14:21

If I remember correctly, I had two that were routine at 10 and 20 weeks, and another one or two because I agreed to be part of some medical training for radiographers to scan heart development.

Sa11yCinnamon · 01/06/2024 14:25

7 and 10 weeks (EPU)
Standard 12 and 20 weeks
Growth scans at 28,32, 36 and 38

And a private reassurance scan at 8 weeks that I'd booked before having to go to EPU.

Aozora13 · 01/06/2024 14:33

I had loads but not for good reasons - as well as the standard 12 and 20 weeks, with DC1 I had 2 x early scans due to confirm the pregnancy was in the right place plus a growth scan later on (failed tape measure test). With DC2 I had a growth scan (failed tape measure test again) and then with DC3 I had a low lying placenta so extra scans for that. Quite a few were the dreaded dildo cam which was deeply unpleasant.

anonhop · 01/06/2024 14:48

12 weeks
20 weeks
36 weeks growth scan

In my trust, these are the standard ones, but they give more if there are concerns.

I did pay for one extra private one at 13 weeks because DH works + can't make the daytime scans on NHS x

elliejjtiny · 01/06/2024 15:13

12 and 20 weeks is normal.
with my dc I had
dc1 - 9 weeks due to bleeding. They cancelled my dating scan because of the 9 week scan but I begged the midwife to still let me have one. 20 weeks, 22 weeks to check baby's heart, 35 week growth scan.

dc2- 10 weeks dating. 20 weeks. 30 weeks to check baby's heart. 32 weeks sneak peek when they were scanning my heart.

dc3 - 17 weeks dating, 20 weeks. 22 weeks to check baby's heart. Growth scans at 24, 28 and 32 weeks

dc4 - 12 weeks dating, 20 weeks. 22 weeks with fetal medicine, 24 weeks growth, 26 weeks fetal medicine. 28 weeks 3d. 32 weeks growth. 35 weeks twice to check position of baby.

dc5 - 12 weeks dating, 20 weeks. Growth scans at 28, 32 weeks. 2 scans at 35 weeks to check position.

All nhs apart from the 3d one with dc4 which was paid for by a charity.

Chanel05 · 01/06/2024 15:20

12, 20, 36 NHS standard. 4 private. 4 NHS growth.

TorroFerney · 01/06/2024 15:36

2 scheduled and then a third when I was sent to hospital as the measurement of my bump wasn't enough. That was quite good as I was able to ask about the sex as it had totally slipped my mind on the other scans.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 01/06/2024 16:28

7 weeks (EPU - pain and bleeding)
10 weeks (private reassurance as bleeding continued)
12 weeks NHS
20 weeks NHS anomaly attempt 1
22 weeks NHS anomaly attempt 2
26 weeks growth scan
28 weeks growth scan
30 weeks growth scan
31 weeks LVD scan
32 weeks growth scan
33 weeks LVD scan
34 weeks private 4D scan (2 attempts)
34 weeks growth scan
35 weeks LVD scan
36 weeks growth scan
37 weeks LVD scan
38 weeks growth scan
40 week growth scan attempt 1
40 weeks presentation scan
41 weeks growth scan attempt 2

I had a fun pregnancy 😅. Issues such as placenta wrong placement, lots of bleeding, concerns over growth! Baby thankfully healthy and actually over 9lb at birth.

MistyWitch · 01/06/2024 17:16

Heaps 😂 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 20 weeks, 28 weeks, 32 weeks then weekly for 4 weeks and baby was born bang on 37 weeks. High risk pregnancy and she was showing as small so lots and lots of scans to keep a close eye.

Yazoop · 01/06/2024 17:26

I’ve had fairly regular scans at 12, 20, 28, 32 and will have another at 36w. This is largely because I turned 40 during the pregnancy as well as a couple of minor risk factors eg related to family history. I also had a private scan at 8 weeks for reassurance as we’d been through a lot to get that far (3 x failed ivf rounds before falling naturally).

Touch wood it has actually been a relatively straightforward pregnancy so far - and feel lucky to get the reassurance of more regular scans even though my risks are more borderline than high. I think my hospital have just erred more on the side of caution.

Dinosaurus86 · 01/06/2024 17:34

I’ve had quite a few in all pregnancies but have a history of issues. In this one, I’ve had:
10 weeks (EPU bleeding)
12 weeks (standard)
13 weeks (EPU bleeding)
14 weeks (MFAU because more bleeding)
17 weeks (MFAU more bleeding)
20 weeks (standard)
20 weeks (fetal medicine)
28 weeks (growth scan)
32 weeks (growth scan)

I’m expecting to have one more at 36 weeks, which is a growth scan but I believe also standard in my trust to check position etc.

WhyamInotvomiting · 01/06/2024 17:48

DC1 I had 3 - dating scan, anatomy scan, then I had another scan because baby was not in a position that enabled the sonographer to take the heart measurements so I had to go back a few weeks later to get that. I actually had a growth scan booked for after my due date because at my 38 week appointment the midwife said my fundal height hadn't changed, but I had DC the day before so never had the scan.

DC 2 I had 5 - early scan around 8 weeks due to bleeding, dating scan, anatomy scan, two growth scans due to midwife saying my fundal height measurements were way behind expected. They stopped doing them after the second growth scan as my measurements stayed tiny but the two scans showed DC2 was a fine average size.

I'm pregnant with DC3 now and just had my dating and anatomy scans so far. However have been told I have low Papp A so will have a uterine artery doppler scan in about 3 weeks and then at least monthly growth scans from at least 32 weeks (or earlier if the doppler scan shows any concerns).

TheShellBeach · 01/06/2024 17:50

With my first baby I had one.
Second baby I had none.
Third baby, none.
Fourth baby, one.

1st and 4th babies there was a clinical need for U/S.

rosegarden95 · 01/06/2024 17:53

That's the norm if you have no issues during pregnancy!

Superstorefan123 · 01/06/2024 17:55

Up to 17 at 29 weeks… growth scans, cervical length scans, repeated scans for bleeding in the first trimester - lovely but so nerve wracking :( would rather the straight forward 2

Sara1988 · 01/06/2024 17:56

@Aozora13 I must be the only person on the planet who prefers the transvaginal scans! Actually dread ultrasounds cause can't stand then pressing on my tummy.

When I was pregnant with both our children you only got a scan at 12 weeks and if everything was fine then that was you. Children are 22 and 20.

Timeforachocolate · 01/06/2024 18:09

3 with my ivf baby. Lots with the baby that was stillborn. 2 with the naturally conceived health DD.

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 01/06/2024 18:13

Loads!! Weekly for many weeks then carried on after that having lots.

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 01/06/2024 18:14

That’s with all of my pregnancies too, loads.

ShortColdandGrey · 01/06/2024 18:15

I had a lot of scans, but it was an extremely high-risk pregnancy. In the later months I was having a scan every week.
