I have just tested positive today with a due date of 2 February. Have had a look and I can't see that anyone else has started a group for Feb yet. Is there anyone else out there who would like to join?

For those suffering with nausea please share how you are powering through/ what you are doing to make it bearable.

Ive been feeling rotten since Friday night and had non-stop queasiness. Im not vomiting but just dry heaving (apologies for graphic detail). It’s like having a hangover but without the headache.

I have quite a demanding job so this isn’t helping me - I’ve just moved all my meetings and ‘WFH’ which means lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself! I’ve bought every energy drink known to man to try and help (it’s what I would do if I was actually hungover!).

please do share any advice as I need to start being able to do things!

I am having exactly the same with dry heaving and very frequent nausea, plus a busy job. It’s not easy, is it??

things that are helping me a little bit:

  • nibbling on crackers (tip from my Mum) and ginger biscuits
  • Staying away from strong smells
  • drinking lots of water and herbal teas (I particularly like the Happy Bumps one from Amazon as it’s pregnancy safe & gentle flavour)
  • embracing burps lol

From last time I think the most important thing is to not let your stomach get empty, keep eating little and often. Probably would switch to lemonade or something over energy drinks personally unless they are definitely helping!

I had major food aversions and basically ate ginger nuts, dairylea dunkers and tomato pasta for weeks. Find things you can stomach and just go with them, but ginger is supposed to help if that's something you can tolerate.

@EastLondonCoffeeFiend thanks! I’m pleased I’m not alone - I honestly feel a bit pathetic (which is not me as a general rule!!) will check out the Happy Bumps tea!

@ab03 thank you! Small sips of lucazade with water biscuits seems to be working for now! Now that you have said Dairylea dunkers I want them!

I’ve also found that frozen chips (which I haven’t had since I was a child) are something which gives me about 45mins of respite.

hoping this passes quickly for us all!

Agree with what else has been said but the dry heaving at work is not great haha.

I've been having mints/sweets to help and as others have said not getting hungry as that seems to bring it on.

Salt and vinegar crisps seem to be best for me and just nibbling on crackers/breadsticks. I'm just eating all the carbs!

Have you thought about going to the doctor because they should be able to prescribe something. Last time my midwife did but I had to wait until my 8 week appointment and that's a long time to wait. Can't see why doctor wouldn't help you out with this!

Is anyone napping during the day? I am consistently napping 3-4.30 for few days. Today is first day I'm properly working after a holiday, so I don't know how I'm going to do with the napping

Yes I am. I feel exhausted by the afternoon. Then going to bed at 10-11pm and waking up 2:30am until early morning!

gormlessgoldilocks · 17/06/2024 11:57

@Mamma364747 @Lemonbalm8 I've been feeling exhausted but not had any naps. I do have a 13 month though so it can be chaos at times! Last time I had 0 energy so I'm waiting for it to hit.

Yes I'm also waking up around 6 am, hence by 3 pm I'm really done with the day. But poor you, can you just get up at 2.30 and then try to sleep only when you're tired? It just really hit me but I'm only dpo 12! I haven't been this tired in any of my pregnancies.

Can you sleep with your little one after lunch?

My son goes to nursery (he is 3) and then I work from home so I can potentially have a lunchtime nap, but I'm only tired exactly at 3 pm. I'm tempted to ask to work 8-4 pm and then sleep at 4 before picking up my son at 5.30, I feel spoilt to do that. But with my son, I had terrible nausea that changed from morning to evening, so I need to wait to see what I'm going to be hit with next.

retrievermum · 17/06/2024 13:26

@UrbanSquirrel good luck today!

I’ve had a complete drop in symptoms since yesterday, but trying to remind myself that there’s no point panicking as there’s nothing I can do about it one way or another. I didn’t have a lot of symptoms to start with and now they’re totally gone! (Although I’m suffering with hayfever so maybe I’m just distracted by that)

In terms of books, I enjoyed “How To Grow A Baby” by Clemmie Hooper when I was pregnant with DD. I also liked to listen to the “Is It Normal?” Podcast with Jessie Ware which made me feel a lot better about it all!

UrbanSquirrel · 17/06/2024 14:41

Hello folks - well, first scan done and dusted! Heartbeat present (hurrah!): one baby only (which was clearly a great relief for my husband).

Measurements were only 6w 3d but no one seemed particularly bothered about this and, since my cycles do vary by the odd day here and there, it may not be too far off the mark, so not concerned. I know at at this stage there can be a lot of variation and it generally evens out over the next few weeks. Booked in for a follow up scan in two weeks just to see how things are progressing.

We did get a picture although I can't say it really gives away very much at all! 🤣 Ultrasounds pics are described in one of our books as resembling 'a snow storm off the Orkneys' and I reckon they're just about right...

Thank you so much to everyone for the well wishes and I'll be rooting for each of you in due course x

Lemonbalm8 · 17/06/2024 14:46

@UrbanSquirrel what a relief it must be! It is always so lovely to see the heartbeat, and reassuring! Good milestone. I'm inspired to book an early scan too.

SJLOU · 17/06/2024 14:52

Afternoon ladies :) hope you’re all doing well! I’ve just had my first midwife appointment come through! Now it feels very real. It’s for the 5th July which will mean I’ll be 8 weeks by then :). I’ve felt so sick today, the first time I’ve felt sick but I’m quite glad to be feeling like it as it’s reassuring after a few fainter test lines recently. I’ve also been feeling so faint and dizzy! Anyone else? X

I'd recommend it @Lemonbalm8 if you're feeling anxious as I was. Obviously it can only tell you that things are Ok at that particular moment, and we all have a long way to go, but I find it comforting to have the option of checking in along the way. ☺️

Thank you @SJLOU and exciting to hear that you have your midwife appointment prepped! It feels a bit as though things are starting to snowball, doesn't it?

superj21 · 17/06/2024 15:18

@UrbanSquirrel great news, and amazing that you could see the heartbeat 😊 !

Great that your appointments so soon! Mine isn't until 19 July. I'll be ten weeks by then which seems late!

I've had some really bad faint/dizzy spells. I went to the docs today as I need to get blood tests done and she said my blood pressure was a little low which I think might contribute to it.

Hopefully2ndtimemummy · 17/06/2024 15:27

Hello, great to have found this thread! Congrats to all here!I should be 5wks today. 2nd pregnancy and it’s taken a while! Lots of cramping on and off- anyone else? Hard not to panic!

Roxttc · 17/06/2024 15:42

@UrbanSquirrel ah was thinking of you today great news that you could see a heartbeat! I spoke to my mum today about someone else we know whose been poorly with pregnancy - my mum has no idea I’m pregnant - and she said she wasn’t sick at all with me or my sibling didn’t even feel ill apart from sore boobs so that’s really reassured me too!

UrbanSquirrel · 17/06/2024 16:07

@Hopefully2ndtimemummy Hello and welcome to the team! ☺️ Cramping does seem to be a perfectly normal part of pregnancy at this stage and I think only cause for concern if it's accompanied by bleeding or if it's extremely sharp and enduring. But I'm sure some of the lovely people here will be able to give you some firmer reassurance from their own experience. The key thing is: do not fret! 🤗

UrbanSquirrel · 17/06/2024 16:09

@Roxttc Oh thank you so much - and bless your mum for (inadvertently) reassuring you ☺️ You say she doesn't yet know. When do you plan to tell her?

Roxttc · 17/06/2024 16:17

@Hopefully2ndtimemummy Congrats! I’ve been having cramping on and off has settled down a bit since week 6 but if I get up after being sat awkwardly get pains here and there, l think as long as no bleeding or not severe pain should be fine 🙂

@UrbanSquirrel Probably after my 12 week scan hoping I can hold out that long she’s clueless that we’re even interested in trying as I’ve been throwing her off scent for ages so will be a big surprise 😅 If all goes well at our 9 week scan I will order the bits to do reveals with then. Only me and my partner know so far!

EastLondonCoffeeFiend · 17/06/2024 16:56

@UrbanSquirrel congrats on your scan! Such good news ❤️ Booked our private scan today for a couple of weeks time, but will struggle to wait now haha
