Bear with me.
DH and I use condoms. Not ttc.
A few weeks ago I had a weird dream, twice in a row, where I got a massive extension put onto our house. The last time I had a dream about an extension, I was pregnant. OK, so. There you go.

So I was dreaming of this extension and started wondering if it was connected to a pregnancy. I then met a lady in town who I used to know, and she was pregnant. She proceeded to tell me that she was pregnant but had used a condom.

I went home that day and told my husband and his was extra careful with our condom. That was 8 days ago. 3 days ago I felt the deepest itch in my abdomen, right inside.

I just decided to take an IC I had lying around and a faint second pink line came up at once.

I peed on the test rather than dipped it. Did I maybe flood the test? I went to look for more tests to confirm and that was the last one and I have to wait until tomorrow after work at 6pm!

I'm in two minds about how I feel about this. I always got very early positives with all my other pregnancies so the timing isn't unreasonable. I love babies! I always wanted more! But I'm 41 and my husband is dead set against more.

The line is visible in real life, albeit very, very faint, has a tinge of pink and came up pretty much straight away. Can you see it?

I'm excited that it's real and full of dread that it was just an evap or flood line. I'm also overwhelmed at the change this little one would bring to our lives, if I really am pregnant. Don't want to freak my husband out so, mumsnet...arghhhhhhh!!!! Talk to me. I need straight talking.

Silently freaking out!

@Everthenever Maybe, but I would do a sensitive test in a few days just to be sure. The Boots own brand early detection ones were the clearest for me.

I've saved my fmu in a container and will get a sensitive test today. My period is due on Tuesday so would expect a reliable answer today.

I have felt so incredibly pms-y since Thursday, more than normal. Just so weird. That wiped out, spaced out feeling, cramps and the exhaustion! I've never felt anything like it.

On Wednesday I felt floored and fell asleep in the early afternoon. I couldn't keep my eyes open so gave my toddler an ipad while I dozed on the sofa beside her! I wouldn't usually do this. I put it down to a busy weekend and how my period is due next week. I did that weird cheap pregnancy test which came up with a faint positive immediately but I thought I'd peed on it.

On Thursday and last night I was asleep by 8pm. I also have this absolutely odd thing...on Thursday i felt pmsy. I did the test and it was negative. Then later in the evening I felt chills and muscle aches in the weirdest places...my biceps, down my shins and in my ankles. I felt like I couldnt stand up and thought 'oh maybe it's not PMS, maybe its a virus'. Went to bed, woke up feeling completely fine. The test still seemed negative in the morning, but I just glanced at it in the semi dark.

Went to work yesterday, not feeling virusy at all, but was very snappy and emotional, bit crampy. Came home and saw the test had developed a slight, vvvvvvvfl. Then the fatigue absolutely floored me again, and the muscle aches in my arms and back started again. Off to bed early, and today I feel totally fine again, other than feeling like my period is coming and the heels of my feet feel like the bone is pushing through!

So it has been a real mis mash of odd things which I would ordinarily put down to periods in my 40s (which are getting a bit weirder) and these 2 evaps in 2 days throwing me all over the place. I'm writing all this down in case anyone comes across this thread in the future and doesn't understand what's happening to them. I'll hopefully wrap all this up in a few days and can provide any future readers with a definite answer one way or another!

Sorry, I know these threads can be annoying when the OP won't just go and buy a FRER but logistically I just haven't been able to yet for different reasons. Thanks for letting me vent, Internet! I need to mull it all over with someone who doesn't know me. Will dip some kind of early test into my pee sample later.

@Welshcake15 just did some Googling. The immediate faint positive within the timeframe (which I may or may not have peed on) was 10mlu. The one that I took that was negative and developed a vvvvvvfl a day later is 25.

I know, I know, I'll do sensitive one today 😆 just wanted to include that for the record.

All those tests are negative? I can't see anything on any of them

Welshcake15 · 25/05/2024 09:57

This was my first hint of a line with my current pregnancy (now 15 weeks). I kept looking at it thinking I was seeing things! 😂

I can see faint lines in real life, I promise! But I think they are both evaps. Going to Boots today for a good sensitive test and will take that as my answer.

Raging cold type virus causing the aches and exhaustion. Tucked up with paracetamol and looking forward to a nice summer with no morning sickness etc

I'm glad you've got a definitive answer either way. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, hope you're over it soon!

As much as mine is a very wanted and planned baby, I must admit that I'm missing my summer glasses of aperol spritz!

Ahh, well next Summer you'll be out in the garden with baby on a little blanket in the shade and you having your Spritz! If you can get your hands on Crodino, its a soft drink which us a good replacement for Spritz. Not sure if you can get it in the UK but it is nice and refreshing with a bit of a bitter kick.

Ooh! Thank you!

Everthenever · 30/05/2024 17:36

Hello all. Again.

I've been absolutely exhausted since last Wednesday, 8 days ago. I've been in bed 7.30 ish most nights. I was supposed to get my period on Tuesday two days ago but no sign of it. I'd assume it was just a long cycle this month as last month's was quite short but I just got the strongest metallic taste in my mouth. A few days ago I was in the bath and this big bloody clot thing fell out of my nose (sorry) so I was a)thinking that's why I got the taste, but b) the only time I get a bleeding nose is when I pregnant.

In my OP I mentioned how we use condoms and used one around my ovulation date on CD14. I'd kind of forgotten that there had been another shaggage episode on CD21. I'd assumed I was out of the woods but the condom at that stage didn't quite make it and good old withdrawal was used. The day after, I noticed EWCM and was confused as I'd thought I'd ovulated the week prior.

My period is probably just late due to the fact I seem to have ovulated late. I'm just getting this off my chest as I can't go for a test until later and do I even want to keep testing? Maybe I just need to wait until next Tuesday when my next period is due.

All I know is that I have felt dreadful in one way or another for the past week. I even vomited last night but it didn't feel like morning sickness, just tiredness/dehydration.

Get another test? Wait until I miss my next period?

Get another test!

Littlebitofsomething · 30/05/2024 17:57

Why can't you go out and get another one tonight?

Everthenever · 30/05/2024 18:30

My husband is out and I'm on my own with kids and would rather wait til he comes home so I can nip out myself rather than drag the kids to the shop with me.
Will I just run over when he gets in?
I don't actually drink alcohol but have been feelings really really dehydrated lately amd put it down to a very salty takeaway the other day. I've been dazzling water, taking deoralyte etc and still have that sandpaper tongue feeling.

The more I think about it, the less warm and fuzzy I feel about another baby. I do think that this is just a perfect storm of irregular cycles, being run down, dehydrated and all the rest and not actually a pregnancy. I just feel so constantly weird. I never had symptoms this early with my others either. My pregnancies were all very similar...no sickness unless 9 weeks.

I'll Try to get over to the shop when dh comes home, if there's time.

Did you manage to test again?

Everthenever · 31/05/2024 13:48

Negative. Still feeling absolutely floored with tired. Am assuming its peri menopause.

OP posts:
Everthenever · 04/06/2024 15:49

I still haven't had a period and am.now on CD 35 which is my longest stretch between cycles since I was a teenager. Am a week late for my period.

Took a few more tests and yesterday's was negative. Last night I went to bed at 7pm and slept until 6am this morning. I woke up with swollen hands and my joints have been stiff and hurting all day. Stiff hands, knees, heels and shins. Does the menopause do this? I've have a stressful year so could it be that? How long do I wait for my period? I don't have any PMS...that all passed about 2 weeks ago.

I dunno.

Definitely sounds like peri menopause

I have a private gynaecologist who I've just messaged. I definitely feel all kinds of weird.

The stiff joints etc?

OP posts:
PoochiesPinkEars · 04/06/2024 19:27

Stiff joints are a classic but less well known symptom.
There are oestrogen receptors in every cell in the female body.
In collagen the role of oestrogen is to govern the level of hydration the collagen cells remain at. When oestrogen levels drop collagen cells lose hydration and shrink which causes joints to groan and creak (as it were) but basically the joints aren't as plumped up so they can ache, feel stiff, exacerbate existing arthritis symptoms etc etc commonly women especially feel this in hips wrists and shoulders, but any joint is affected and can make itself felt.

PoochiesPinkEars · 04/06/2024 19:31

Also interestingly, there are molecules in alcohol which mimic oestrogen and bind to oestrogen receptors, which is why perimenopausal or menopausal women sometimes experience an increase in desire for alcohol, as it relieves some of the oestrogen withdrawal.
A biological basis for where the stereotype image of the middle aged wine lover comes from.
Obviously stereotypes are annoying and plenty of women don't follow that, but if you are finding yourself drawn to giving yourself a glass more often it could be for this reason.

That is so interesting! My fingers are still stiff this morning and I still haven't had my period. I don't drink alcohol but that's fascinating too!

Is there a test for peri?
