Bear with me.
DH and I use condoms. Not ttc.
A few weeks ago I had a weird dream, twice in a row, where I got a massive extension put onto our house. The last time I had a dream about an extension, I was pregnant. OK, so. There you go.

So I was dreaming of this extension and started wondering if it was connected to a pregnancy. I then met a lady in town who I used to know, and she was pregnant. She proceeded to tell me that she was pregnant but had used a condom.

I went home that day and told my husband and his was extra careful with our condom. That was 8 days ago. 3 days ago I felt the deepest itch in my abdomen, right inside.

I just decided to take an IC I had lying around and a faint second pink line came up at once.

I peed on the test rather than dipped it. Did I maybe flood the test? I went to look for more tests to confirm and that was the last one and I have to wait until tomorrow after work at 6pm!

I'm in two minds about how I feel about this. I always got very early positives with all my other pregnancies so the timing isn't unreasonable. I love babies! I always wanted more! But I'm 41 and my husband is dead set against more.

The line is visible in real life, albeit very, very faint, has a tinge of pink and came up pretty much straight away. Can you see it?

I'm excited that it's real and full of dread that it was just an evap or flood line. I'm also overwhelmed at the change this little one would bring to our lives, if I really am pregnant. Don't want to freak my husband out so, mumsnet...arghhhhhhh!!!! Talk to me. I need straight talking.

Silently freaking out!

Hmmm I'd wonder about a dye run.

Hope you're OK either way OL

Everthenever · 23/05/2024 16:26

Thanks @BingAndTing . I will be fine. Another little one would be a pipe dream but impractical in reality, so the current mystery is lovely. It's bringing me back to my ttc days and it all feels very wistful and nostalgic.

In reality, the chances are very slim. I'm 41 and a condom was properly used from start to finish with no mishaps. We already have our hands full. I'm going to get an early test now and put it all to bed. If the test last night was really positive, a free tonight will be too, and if it wasn't, I'll soon find out.

It was fun while it lasted!

Awww, oh well, at least you road tested the reality hits moment and if you still come through that feeling like it's for the best then at least you know where you stand in yourself.

So sorry OP x

Everthenever · 24/05/2024 05:32

Last night I was feeling unwell and the 2 year old was having a temper tantrum and screaming the place down. I thought 'wow I'm so glad there's not another one coming into the mix!'.

Our lives would have had to change a lot ith a fourth. It would have been too much amd would have meant huge upheaval. We have things in a nice sweet spot now and that would all be out the window.

I got to experience it for a day and the bfn really is for the best. I just love pregnancy and babies though!

Have you suggested a vasectomy?

PoochiesPinkEars · 24/05/2024 09:12

Vasectomy is excellent solution. My DH was thrilled when he got the all clear for unprotected sex after his. 🤣

Everthenever · 24/05/2024 15:14

Oh come on. Just went to throw yesterday's test out and there's now a faint second line. So faint the camera didn't pick it up. I know, I know. Its not a valid result. But these things open up so many mental doors for me...names, thoughts of maternity leave, a new car, cute stuff. It's payday in a few days and I'm skint so don't want to fork out money for another test so just waiting for my period to arrive now. makes indecipherable noise

OP posts:
Everthenever · 24/05/2024 15:16

Yes DH has talked about a vasectomy. I'm too much of a broody woman to push the issue though, just in case he ever changed his mind! Which I know sounds really silly!!

I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant due to the condom use and my age, but what are the chances I would get 2 evaps in a row on 2 different brands eh. When I think of the hundreds of tests I've taken over the years, I've not had many evaps in comparison.

The line is pink(!). I'll stop now. I'm not pregnant.

Did you pee on it or dipped it?

Definitely dipped it this time 😄

It turned slightly positive in over 12 hours. I took it around 6pm yesterday and when I quickly looked at it at 6am, it seemed negative still. Then when I went to throw it about an hour ago I noticed the line. I have a bit of a mausoleum of old pregnancy negative tests of the same brand, all still totally negative. *

  • don't know why I have old tests stashed away! Must do a clear out soon!

There are lots of evaps with pregnancy tests nowadays as quality has gone down. I would really buy a digital one and do it with morning pee.

Yes you could be right. I'll just leave it a few days and wait for my period. Its just annoying as my period isn't as regular as it was so not always sure when my period is actually late or if I'm just having a longer cycle. I'll just wait a week and if no period, I'll test again.

For context, three years ago, I did a pregnancy test in the morning and it was as negative as the driven, white snow. When I looked 12 hours later, after work, a very, very ,very faint line appeared. Fainter than the one I now have. That baby is the two year old I mentioned earlier. So there's that.

However, nobody here can tell me one way or another. I'm just having a vent as it all seems too silly to share with anyone IRL.

Sorry, about the digital. They aren't very sensitive and in my experience don't pick up pregnancy this early. Maybe I will next week though.

The camera isn't picking up the second line at all!

It looks like I'm imagining the line or making it up! It's darker than the one I got the last time I was pregnant (see above lol).

It's so faint with a pink tinge. The last one I got when I was pregnant 3 years ago, was paler and grey. Anyway this is all just crazy speculation and pretty groundless. The chances are so, so slim.

Everthenever · 24/05/2024 16:33

Plus, the only reason I'm testing is because of that stupid dream about getting an extension put on a house!!!! I'm losing the plot!

What sensitivity are these tests? Are they 10 or 25 miu/ml. If you're not testing first thing in the morning, and you're not using a more sensitive 10 miu/ml test then you might get faint tests at this stage even if you are pregnant.

FWIW, I found out I was pregnant with my son after leaving a flooded test to dry overnight. Exactly what you're told not to do. I'm not saying all evaps are positive, but I do think some of what people dismissed as an evap was actually an early pregnancy that didn't stick.

In all honesty, I don't know. I always used any old tests at any time of the day with my other 3 pregnancies and got a clear positive. The evening I found the 'evap' I took a test at 8pm on 8dpo and it was so clear I nearly had a heart attack when I saw it! I think my subconscious desire for more babies is clouding my thinking. I'm just a broody woman sailing towards the menopause and my body knows it!

@Everthenever Maybe, but I would do a sensitive test in a few days just to be sure. The Boots own brand early detection ones were the clearest for me.
