Spotting 5+5 weeks

deliwoman1 · 04/05/2024 14:22

I’ve just had some dark brown spotting. I’m 5+5 weeks today by ovulation with a history of ectopic and recurrent miscarriage. This will be my second miscarriage this year - the first was a blighted ovum I had to have surgery for the day after Boxing Day. Of course it’s a bank holiday so I can’t even self-refer because EPU won’t open again until Tuesday…

Im not sure what this post is for, only that I was hopeful for this one. Tests seemed promising and I got a 3+ weeks at 20dpo. I’m so sad and exhausted by this process, and very fortunate I do have my DD.

I had an episode of brown spotting which turned into bright red blood and a few small clots bang on 5+5 both when I was pregnant with my DD and my current pregnancy, so don't lose hope! I wish you all the best, it's a scary time xx

Peonies12 · 04/05/2024 14:47

I had a few days of brown spotting at 6 weeks, was all fine and I’m 18 weeks now.

Alloveragain3 · 04/05/2024 14:55

Another here with a positive outcome despite one episode of brown spotting and one small red bleed.

I know it's hugely worrying but fingers crossed all is OK x

Peonyyyy · 04/05/2024 15:25

Just posting to offer a hand hold ❤️

I’m currently going through the same, 6 weeks currently. I had brown spotting for a week which I thought was my period, then tested again when I realised my period hadn’t properly come and it was positive. I then managed to get progesterone and I am also taking aspirin. This would be my second baby, we have one boy and had 2 losses before that.

I then didn’t have any bleeding for a week, but then the bleeding started again this week - it’s brown and not very much, but occasionally I get a little red fleck in it.

this is how my mcs went so I’m worried, but as I’m on progesterone and aspirin I know there’s not much else I can do.

I have heard of people having bleeding in early pregnancy and it all ended up fine, so hopefully that’s the case for us. I have a scan booked for 8.30 on Tuesday.

are you on any treatment at all?

good luck x

deliwoman1 · 04/05/2024 16:04

Thanks, ladies. I’m so glad for those of you who had positive outcomes. ❤️ It does help to hear though I feel sure I’m miscarrying.

@Peonyyyy I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through it too. I don’t have much hope due to my track record. I also think, (but can’t be sure as there wasn’t enough) that the spotting contained some debris. In my unfortunate experience that can signal an ectopic. So I’m praying it’s not that, at least. I’m on progesterone so there’s nothing to be done for me.

Very best of luck for your appointment on Tuesday! 🤞🤞🤞

5+3 going through the same sort of thing, pink spotting since yesterday with some cramps. Took 9 months to get this bfp since my last MMC in July. 2 MMCs and a chemical, 7 years since I first TTC (with a break in the middle) and I'm not sure how much more of this I can take 😔

Peonyyyy · 04/05/2024 18:36

@moosey89 so sorry you’re going through this too. Are you going to have a scan? Hope it all goes ok for you this time ❤️

deliwoman1 · 04/05/2024 19:04

@moosey89, my heart honestly goes out to you. ❤It's absolutely crushing, particularly when it's tough to conceive in the first place. I sincerely hope it works out for you.

I don't know why, but this almost did me in completely: bought a pack of clearblue weeks indicator tests and BOTH of them were faulty. I definitely didn't do anything wrong, just bad luck. And I didn't bother to get a receipt. It was a stupid idea anyway because I know it doesn't really tell me much. I just figured as I'd already gotten a 3+, if it had gone down, at this point I'd know it was over. It's the not knowing that drives me insane.

I was so pissed off, my partner rushed out and bought me some more and now I feel too despondent to even bother. 😔

Do you have any private scan places near you that could have you in? I had a subchorionic haematoma at 6 weeks which didn't cause me any bleeding but frequently does and is one of the main causes of bleeding in early pregnancy. I'm now 20 weeks. They'd be able to see on a scan if you have one. Bleeding isn't always a sign of the worst. Best of luck ❤️ x

Wolfhall1 · 04/05/2024 19:32

I had brown spotting on and off during the first trimester, gave birth to a healthy baby boy last week. The cervix is really vascular when you’re pregnant and can bleed really easily, a big bowel movement or sex would set mine off. A few times I had spotting for no reason at all. I had a couple of reassurance scans to put my mind at rest.

deliwoman1 · 04/05/2024 20:23

@minnieot, there is one private clinic that’s open tomorrow. I’ll see how I feel in the morning.

Still spotting and it seems a bit pinker now, though I’m still testing 3+ on a Clearblue. In the past I noticed tests get fainter at this early gestation when I started to bleed, but my last miscarriage I didn’t bleed and hcg took a while to come down after my surgery. It’s anyone’s guess atm without bloods and/or a scan.

@Peonies12 thank you. I've got one booked through the EPU at 7 weeks because of my losses. Part of me doesn't want to have a scan because then I might find out it's over again 😞 other part of me just wants to know.

Problem at this stage is they can't even really check anything except that it's in the right place, I'd almost rather wait until a heartbeat should be there, then if it's not I know it's bad news and can deal with it outright. But then I'd get progesterone earlier if I do have an earlier scan....I honestly don't know what to do!x

moosey89 · 04/05/2024 21:34

@deliwoman1 ugh that's so frustrating!! I stayed away from the weeks tests this time, I tested positive at 10dpo, did another at 12 and 14 dpo just to make sure, and the line was suitably darker so decided I'd try not to torture myself!

So now I have this torture instead 🤦 it's never ending!

deliwoman1 · 05/05/2024 08:01

@moosey89 , torture is right! Have you tested again? I feel similarly re. scans at this gestation but I also want to know that it is in the right place. I’m at higher risk of ectopic after having had one before I think, so the brown spotting makes me very nervous.

OP posts:
moosey89 · 05/05/2024 14:16

@deliwoman1 nope not tested again, refuse to 😂

I did fill in the self referral for the EPU so when they are back Tuesday I'll expect they will call to discuss if I should come in for a scan sooner. Probably will just go for it if they suggest it to be fair, I hate being in limbo!

AppleStrudel23 · 05/05/2024 14:43

I had brown and sometimes pinkish spotting around that time too. I'm now 30 weeks pregnant. My midwife said it was most likely implantation when I told her about it but of course that's not confirmed

moosey89 · 05/05/2024 15:54

@AppleStrudel23 thank you - always nice to hear good outcomes. I am worried because it's the same sort I had both times when I had missed miscarriages confirmed, just earlier this time, so I can't help but think the worst.

deliwoman1 · 06/05/2024 01:49

@moosey89 , fair play to you! I definitely don’t have that kind of self-restraint! I also self-referred and am hoping they can scan me on Tuesday, but I’m in London and my EPU is horrendously busy and understaffed. The wait is horrific. I’m increasingly worried that it’s ectopic, so the earlier the better. Holding on to the hope that my hcg didn’t seem slow rising to begin with, but it’s the constant brown and odd unilateral twinges that are keeping me up at night!

deliwoman1 · 07/05/2024 10:54

How are you doing @Peonyyyy & @moosey89 ? 💐

I'm still spotting brown, and it's been continuous since Saturday. It hasn't turned to fresh blood yet but I'm also on progesterone which could be keeping that at bay. Very minor period-like aches over night, but no real pain. Rang EPU after self-referring and as predicted they're backed up over the bank holiday weekend, so I may not be seen until tomorrow or even Thursday. I'm wfh today, and will try and do so tomorrow, as well. Doesn't seem smart going into the office, just in case things do escalate. The wait is agonising. I'm tempted to go for a scan this afternoon just to put myself out of my misery. 😕

OP posts:
moosey89 · 07/05/2024 11:46

@deliwoman1 still light brown/pink spotting for me - spoke with EPU this morning and unless it's an emergency there's no scans earlier than my current one next Wednesday anyway, so that answers that! Just got to try and keep the anxiety as low as possible until then.

If you feel you need to go for a scan then do! No point in torturing yourself. The two week wait is nothing compared to early pregnancy hey!x

deliwoman1 · 07/05/2024 12:27

@moosey89, I'm sorry to hear your spotting hasn't stopped. Are you on progesterone? It might be worth a trip to the GP to try and wangle some if you're not.

Also, wow. Waiting over a week for an EPU scan when you're bleeding is just ridiculous. I'm sorry. Mind you, I may well be in the same boat judging by the bank holiday backlog. It's insane how underfunded these services are. I always feel so sorry for the staff.

As for going private. Yep. Just have to decide whether my mental health is shredded enough to justify the £80... 🙃

OP posts:
Peonyyyy · 07/05/2024 12:32

Hey @deliwoman1 have you had a scan? How are you doing?

@moosey89 sorry to hear it’s a wait for you. If it’s just brown just remember it should still all be ok.

I had my scan this morning and we were so happy to see a heartbeat, measuring a week behind but I feel ok about this because I only got a positive test a week after my period was due so it makes sense.

The sonographer and nurse weren’t worried about the bleeding at all, said it can just be one of those things. Hope this gives you all some hope xx

deliwoman1 · 07/05/2024 12:39

@Peonyyyy that's amazing, I'm so pleased for you! You must be so relieved as well that the dates add up for you. Will they scan you again soon? Or do you wait until 12 weeks now?

I'm still waiting for a call from the EPU. Rang them and was told it's really very busy. It's unlikely I'll be scanned today, or tomorrow at this rate. The wait is taking a toll, I must admit.

OP posts:
moosey89 · 07/05/2024 13:05

@Peonyyyy that's great news! I'm really hoping it's the same story for me next week 🤞I got a positive test at only 10dpo (cd24) so I'll be worried if I'm behind!

@deliwoman1 they were super kind about it, and honest that it may be nothing but of course they can't promise me that. I am ok having a scan next week to be honest as 7 weeks should have a heartbeat for sure so I guess I'll get a more definitive answer! My boobs are still sore so I'm clinging to that too currently.

Peonyyyy · 07/05/2024 13:21

@deliwoman1 think it’ll just be my 12 week one now, but if I get any heavier bleeding I will call them again, I have had this with my first mc where I was measuring behind and then miscarried but that time I was sure of my dates, this time we thought it would probably be a week behind LMP.

I was actually sick this morning for the first time which I’m taking as a good sign, so if you are still having symptoms that’s good. Good luck for your scan, are they going to call you back if they have space today? It’s amazing how different it is up and down the country, they seem to not be too busy at our EPU.

@moosey89 good luck, just remember that even with spotting chances are it will be fine xx keep us updated
