Hello. Hope it's ok to join this thread. I'm currently 20+1 with my first baby; had my anomaly scan today and everything looked good so slowly starting to face the mountain of things to organise before baby is here. It's been really nice to hear about all of your experiences on the thread so far so looking forward to keeping up now.

We are moving house before the baby comes, so can't really buy too much at the moment as we currently live on a boat - but my Nan has given me a bit of money to spend on "things for me" before the baby comes. I've looked into antenatal classes which I will book nearer the time (spaces seem to be ok here in the midlands and as we are moving to a slightly different area I want to see how that goes so we aren't travelling miles to do something we can do around the corner) and a hypnobirthing course. I just wondered if there is anything else anyone has done before baby in terms of classes or other things that might be nice whilst pregnant? I have maternity clothes and a pillow but have been told that the money is only for things for me, not baby, so looking for recommendations as Google is either throwing me everything or nothing. Thanks

In my area, all the local nurseries have full waiting lists until Sep 2025 !

So this little.one has been added to the list for starting 1st September 2025 full time.

I was hoping to return to work in July ( I work in a school) as for maternity start date I have gone for 9th September I am planning on a section so should be given a date a week or two before my due date . This way I get 2/ 3 weeks of nesting walking my eldest to and from school ( plus no wrap around cost for him )

I handed in my matb1 on Monday so all official now .

WeightoftheWorld · 23/05/2024 17:27

I always tell everyone the best part of mat leave is the bit before the baby arrives Grin I really value having some time to myself to rest and get the last bits sorted. But then I am really unorganised and always have bits of shopping and tidying to do right at the end. I went off at 37 weeks with #1 and she was born on her due date. Those 3 weeks were bliss! With #2 I went off at 36 weeks, I only had 2 days a week just to myself tho as I had DD the other days. #2 wasn't born until like 41+5 or something so I had ages off but I really valued that extra 1-on-1 time with my eldest and the couple of days I had to myself each week. I think I will go around 35 or 36 weeks this time. I'm not sure if I'm going to return to work after tho, or if DH might take SPL...no idea at all yet. The nursery have full availability still for September 2025 onwards but I will probably put them down for 3 days or something soon just to hold it for a bit as no idea what we are going to do yet.

LSW82 · 23/05/2024 18:12

@SuenoNB maybe a pregnancy massage? I haven't had one myself but friend recommended
I'm currently planning to take 2 weeks AL, then start maternity leave l1.5 weeks before due date - I went off earlier than planned with 1st doing the same & enjoyed some relaxing before baby came. I also know I won't go over as induction booked for due date unless I go before

mrssunshinexxx · 23/05/2024 18:24

I really didn't expect to need one as only 22 weeks @CluelessInLondon but for jet 2 you do least I found out that would of been bad if presumed I didn't

cm3212 · 23/05/2024 20:05

@mrssunshinexxx did you speak to Jet2? I'm going a week on Sunday and have been advised by 2 different people that I don't need a fit to fly .. I'll be 20+4 outbound & 22+4 returning

ToffeeEl · 23/05/2024 20:20

@SuenoNB hi! I never wanted a baby shower with my first so my sister and aunt booked an afternoon in a spa, mother's massage and a nice float around the pool with afternoon tea. It was really nice as I got achey at towards the end. It's nice that she wants you to treat yourself to something

Sara1988 · 23/05/2024 21:48

I'm 20+4 and has anomaly scan today. Everything they could measure looked good, but need to go back in two weeks as the baby's position meant they couldn't do some readings! Has anyone else had this?

I'm also not feeling movement yet despite seeing a very wriggly baby on screen! Anyone else in the same boat with their first?

CluelessInLondon · 23/05/2024 21:55

@SuenoNB Welcome and congratulations! How lovely of your nan to give you something to treat yourself - I agree with PP that something like a pregnancy massage might be a nice indulgence, or a manicure/pedicure if you like that kind of pampering? Or if you want something more geared towards helping you with the pregnancy, I see lots of recommendations for pregnancy yoga, you could look into whether there are any classes near you?

@Sara1988 Definitely in a similar position with the movements - and I think it's on the previous page of the thread where a few other people are too. I'm feeling little flutters but not that often and definitely not every day (I'm 21+5 so a bit further on than you). Does your scan report say where your placenta is? That can affect how much movement you feel/how long it takes.

@CluelessInLondon posterior low - she said she wasn't worried about the low bit at this stage. You must be just in October then! I'm due 6th x

CluelessInLondon · 23/05/2024 22:27

@Sara1988 My due date was brought forward at my dating scan so technically I'm having a September baby (28th September), but statistically it's more likely to come along in October! My placenta is low as well, although mine is anterior - do you have to go back for another scan in the third trimester to check if it's moved?

Sara1988 · 24/05/2024 06:38

@CluelessInLondon well I have another scam in two weeks to get the measurements that couldn't be done and then having a growth scan at 32 anyway. Mine got moved back too by 6 days! Very confused about when we actually conceived cause never ovulate that early. But hey ho.

spudnik1 · 24/05/2024 07:22

@cm3212 @mrssunshinexxx I am off with jet 2 and was told i did need a fit to fly. Was told in writing and over the phone! I will be 22 going and 23 on way back.

30somethingttc · 24/05/2024 07:27

cm3212 · 23/05/2024 20:05

@mrssunshinexxx did you speak to Jet2? I'm going a week on Sunday and have been advised by 2 different people that I don't need a fit to fly .. I'll be 20+4 outbound & 22+4 returning

I’m flying with jet2 next month and a bit confused by their website!!!

One section says the below with no dates on it.

If you’re travelling while pregnant, you’ll need a fit to fly certificate. One of the following documents will be required:

  • A Fit to Fly certificate that’s provided by a doctor or midwife on surgery/hospital headed paper, signed and dated within seven days of your departure and 16 days of your return.
  • A pregnancy Fit to Fly certificate provided by us and completed by your medical professional. Please make sure this is signed and stamped for verification purposes, as this certificate will not be valid if incomplete. You can download the certificate here.

but when you go onto their T&Cs it says:

After the end of the 27th week of pregnancy, expectant mothers must provide us with a doctor's certificate confirming their stage of pregnancy and that they are fit to fly, failing which we reserve the right to refuse carriage. This certificate needs to be dated within 7 days of the outbound date of travel and 16 days of the inbound date of travel.

i was planning on going with the t&cs section as that’s what’s on my booking email and i doubt my midwife will give me an appointment within 7 days of flying just to get it but it is bloody confusing!

cm3212 · 24/05/2024 07:42

@spudnik1 @30somethingttc @mrssunshinexxx how confusing .. I received confirmation via their WhatsApp chat and over the phone I wouldn't need one and was told to go by this table. Frustrating it's not clear!

I’ve just text them as well @cm3212 so hopefully I’ll get the same response and can use that as proof if anything does come up.
im going to try my hardest to wear the floatiest thing possible 😂

cm3212 · 24/05/2024 08:01

@30somethingttc same here!
I'm going to wear something that doesn't make pregnancy look obvious lol.. and was thinking I'll take my 20 week scan report to confirm dates etc in case questioned, plus I have the WhatsApp message & the table that's on their own website! Should be covered with that!

30somethingttc · 24/05/2024 08:04

@cm3212 good idea on the scan. I’ll do that too.
I feel like they’d have an issue with my stuff anyways as my nhs is my maiden name and my passport is my married name as I didn’t want to change my nhs whilst pregnant as was worried it would all get messy! So also going to bring my marriage certificate. Going prepared 😂
I just CANNOT risk not getting on this flight. So so so so so desperate for a holiday 😂😂😂

cm3212 · 24/05/2024 08:04

@30somethingttc this is also on their assisted travel page!

cm3212 · 24/05/2024 08:06

@30somethingttc I'm the exact same .. feel like I really need this holiday!

Definitely just make sure you have your docs and I don't think can go wrong. There's so many places on their website that says fit to fly after 27 weeks so I'm not too concerned. X

30somethingttc · 24/05/2024 08:13

They just text me back the same as you @cm3212 waheyyy!! Now the countdown to holiday begins 🕺🕺

cm3212 · 24/05/2024 08:16

@30somethingttc that's good! Woo! Surely that should be enough for us to be covered .. I can't wait, I go next Sunday & the countdown is well and truly on! Have my 20wk scan Wednesday and just hoping that all is well on that before we go 😬💕 x

30somethingttc · 24/05/2024 08:27

How exciting on both counts!! @cm3212

I’ve got mine the week before we fly as well in June 20 days to go but whose counting 🤪🤪

cm3212 · 24/05/2024 08:29

@30somethingttc Yes, it'll be lovely seeing her and making sure everything's ok before we go away!

Ahh exciting, I hope your scan goes well & you have an amazing holiday 😊 xx

spudnik1 · 24/05/2024 10:50

I will let you know if I get asked when I go in a few days
